Another excellent video!! Glad you got it working! Sometimes lots of gremlins lurking in devices that haven’t been touched for years, so congrats on chasing them all out!!

Just realized that at 3:36, the main quartz clock is labelled “16.0HMz” instead of “16MHz” intersting typo or standard notation?

Yeah, noticed that and was wondering if you were going to comment! Weird - suspect it could be a typo!!

Do you think the contemporary price of the fancy-looking Analog Devices chip at 4:40 was really $1000+/unit? I was wondering if the prices shown on that site are inflated due to scarcity. Maybe they only have 5 of them in a box in the corner of a warehouse. 🙂

Hah that’s very possible, though I am convinced those were already quite expensive back then. Not sure where to check price for parts like those, that’d be interesting!

During my research I also came across this paper from Thor Olson, Color Scientist for MGI (The company that made this device): www.nightscapes.net/techniques/TechnicalPapers/FilmExposure.pdf In addition to remind the basics, he also goes over the spectral power output of the CRT and it's phosphor coating, and dives into the science of color separation filter in order to achieve the best results, depending on film type. It's worth a read if you are interested!

This machine can expose medium and large format reversal film which still has a higher effective resolution than a lot of digital formats.
