If the name Brock McGinn sounds familiar, he scored the OT goal in game 7 against Washington in last year's first round on a pass from Justin Williams. Rod Brind'Amour was their head coach.
@FutureZek

And bailed out Mrazek's ass in the 3rd period. Ginner doesn't deny Wilson (I think it was Wilson; if not I'm sure someone will let me know), no 2OT, no 1st round win, no trip to the ECF.

Ron Francis was most certainly the face of the whalers in the 80's. 5 times he lead them in scoring and 9 times in ppg.....I would say he was their best player. Also, upon his return to the franchise ,now in Carolina,he was 1st or 2nd in scoring 4 straight seasons!

Ron Francis was an amazing player. Criminally underrated ! I was so stoked when he became a Leaf even if it was at the tail end of his outstanding career. Power play specialist, penalty killing specialist, faceoff specialist, 200- foot game, best known as a defensive forward and yet racked up the 5th most points in NHL history! Loved watchin Francis play. A guy who played the game the right way. Long live Ronnie! # Bestevertowear #10!

Problem was, the Canes never got a serviceable back-up until Cam was over-cooked. And then, the back-ups were meant to be replacements (Eddie Lack, Khudobin, etc). And then they finally moved on from Cam with...Scott Darling. Can't blame them for going all in on him, and it was a heck of a story, and I certainly wish Scott the best but...he was not good in Raleigh.

Super late to this comment, but then after his shoulder got completely obliterated in Game 5 against the Oilers, that sets the stage for another player to come back for the final 2 games of that series. That player? Erik Cole...less than 4 months removed from a BROKEN NECK!!! And Cole getting hurt accelerated the push for another trade deadline acquisition that paid off great dividends for the Canes during the Cup run, and who was that? Mark Recchi

You should also put together the trade tree for the first time this franchise traded away Ron Francis in 1991, as the Hartford Whalers. Although this was, by far, the worst trade in NHL history as it was the turning point that eventually led the team to leaving Hartford, the tree of this trade also helped Carolina win the Stanley cup in 2006 since it ended with Rod'Brindamour.
