Trampoline kids have taken the decade old sport of Trampolining and bought it to there back garden under the name of Gtramp. The evolution of this sport has been nuts, creating RU-vid stars, competitions and bolstering the industry of trampoline parts - in today's video we explore how this all happened.

G-tramp was my childhood, it's how I got started with flips. Started teaching myself flips on my garden trampoline back around 2011 and a decade later, it's helped me do coaching with kids/adults on freestyle gymnastics (basically freerunning) and trampolining. It was also my base for doing freerunning. I knew you would bring up the likes of xtr3m3flip3rs and Rasmus, gives such nostalgia to me from watching g-tramp videos in my early teens. Loved the video Jimmy

oh yeah. I'm 26 and I was just the right age when they hit popularity in the US. I remember my cousins having one, a good friend of mine had one at his dad's house, and my neighbors had one. I've been able to do a quad since I was like 11 years old. One incredibly windy storm delivered us a trampoline to my back yard, completely undamaged, on the night of my 16th birthday. It was almost as if it was meant to be mine.....until the neighbor knocked and wanted it back

huh...I had no idea trampolines were a rare thing: I grew up with one and I can absolutely confirm that it took all of about 2 minutes for my brothers and I to figure out how to...I just realized this might be purely our term for it "Spike" eachother: you time your force input to the device to link up with someone else's and just sorta transfer it all into them and next thing you know they are jumping for two people, considerably more in our case since we were all considerably different sizes and my little brother was entirely willing to get sent sky high by both of his older brothers. other basic tricks are 1: chaining these events together and retaining energy from previous cycles into a building system and 2: if you wet down the trampoline it gets *_MUCH_* better at transferring energy between the various objects acting on it...that one might have actually not been found by everyone to ever use one of these things but I kinda doubt it what with summer and water and sprinklers and rain and any other conceivable reason for a trampoline to get wet. ps: I remember those nets becoming a thing and my first thought on seeing one is that they are a massive safety hazard, they aren't exactly tall enough to make it difficult to get higher than them even playing alone let alone groups of kids launching eachother and the nets and supports are way worse to hit than a padded edge, just don't expose the springs and/or leave holes to get a leg caught and you're good.

Interesting what you said about gymnastics and rules. I'm a quad skater and I have a few ice skating friends. I get the impression from talking to them that the ice skating community, soecifically artistic, is very shaped by the rules of competiton. I never see them want to learn anything that isn't legal in competiton and it also has to be 'perfect'. It can be a bit off putting when I wanna show them a funny version of a trick I tried I saw

I love watching it, as it is completely absurd what these lads are doing (and my brain is shouting the whole time that this stuff should not be physically possbile), but at the same time I hate it as I'll never ever feel cool again doing double flips on a trampoline... :D

Amazing production, it’s great to see a high quality video done on gtramp! I think gtramp lacks some superstars on RU-vid after Tanner hasn’t been too active over the years, and it’s getting less popular lately. This video almost gave me motivation to know how much potential it has, I’ve been doing my best to try to help gtramp get back on its feet through RU-vid videos. Maybe it can be revived 🤔

Also in my opinion I feel like gtramp is gonna get sort of the same stigma that parkour has gotten with it's rise in popularity and that if you're a "normal adult" you shouldn't be doing it, which will probably lead to it staying an underground sport. Tru. My main problem with this video is that he majorly under sells normal trampoline. I agree that g-tramp is really impressive but there’s something really impressive and beautiful about normal trampoline as well. He criticizes all the rules and regulations when that’s what makes this different from g-tramp. Just because there are more strict rules doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing it just means a different sport. You can also tell he didn’t do much research on normal trampoline because he says “you normally land on your back or your stomach during normal trampolining” which is just not true. 1 3/4 dive barani ballout, three quarter back Cody, so many examples where you land on your stomach or back.

I did a double once as a kid and was super proud of it. Never knew that there was a community circling around this stuff. I'm too old to do stuff like this now and not hurt over my whole body. @Dragonstorm35
@Dragonstorm35 3 года назад
I agree that g-tramp is super impressive and I respect it even though I am a conventional trampolinest. However personally I don’t really like comparing the two. Standard trampolining is more than just how hard the skills are, it’s about the form, the height, where you land, everything. So even though g-tramp is truly impressive, it’s a completely different sport in my opinion. My main problem with this video is that he majorly under sells normal trampoline. I agree that g-tramp is really impressive but there’s something really impressive and beautiful about normal trampoline as well. He criticizes all the rules and regulations when that’s what makes this different from g-tramp. Just because there are more strict rules it’s a bad thing it just means a different sport. You can also tell he didn’t do much research on normal trampoline because he says “you normally land on your back or your stomach during normal trampolining” which is just not true. 1 3/4, dive barani ballout, three quarter back, Cody, so many examples where you land on your stomach or back. Another thing is that he completely skips over the fact that Greg roe mugged a pizza delivery guy and was kicked from team Canada. TL,DR G-tramp is rly impressive however I think it’s wrong to say it’s surpassed standard trampoline. I agree with some of this videos statements but I feel you did too much research into g-tramp without doing any research into normal trampoline.

I’m not sure why, but I always found wall trampolining infinitely more entertaining compared to the regular, vertical up trampolining. Maybe because it’s been so creatively adopted by the circus lads? And that together with the two 45-degree tilted trampolines facing each other… massive! All that makes it just a matter of time until Red Bull makes a stupidly difficult to produce trampoline video in which someone is doing parkour runs, but charged up to plus ultra with super tramp power, leaping from place to place like the Incredible Hulk.

lol kids are always DESTROYING the things adults do and it's funny to me. This is nothing new that kids are progressing way beyond the Olympics. It's cool what can happen when you take away the snobby rules and allow pure progression to happen. This reminds me of when I was in high school and Shaun White entered the Olympics for the first time. I already knew what he was capable of from watching him in Winter X, and I laughed my butt off as people were like "OMG WOW DID YOU SEE THAT KID SHAUN WHITE IN THE OLYMPICS?" full well knowing that he had played it super safe with a really simple run and easily won gold with it.
@mdgow

You say that people only noticed trampolines popping up in gardens after the Olympics during the 2000s? "Prior to the 2000s they weren't sold like that". I don't think so... at least not where I was. Most suburban family households where I grew up in Sydney got one for the backyard during the 1980s (and maybe before that too... I don't know because I wasn't around). They seem to have been pretty consistently popular in Australian backyards from at least the 80s. Not that it's important 🙂

g-tramping is the sport of people who jump on GARDEN trampolines, not eurotramps, supertramps or whatever. The Sport that you showed in this btw great vid does not really have a name. Cool video. I can assure you these guys were not the pioneers. People were doing this for years before youtube. My family bought our first trampoline in 1990, it was round with blue mats around it and black mesh. It did not have a protective net around it. This was in Canada and they were sold at Costco for years until they were banned and replaced with the less bouncy ones with the nets. I also had friends that had rectangle trampolines with white mesh that were more bouncy and more dangerous (Double bouncing on these versions could snap your legs) I was a skateboarder and snowboarder and me and my friends would spend hours progressing on trampolines, we would often push them next to swimming pools and do crazy dangerous flips into the pools. In retrospect this was super dangerous and we were lucky to not get severely injured. We had different names for tricks put I personally was able to land triple fronts, double fronts with 1440 degrees of rotation, double backs and double back 1080s. My friend who had a gymnastic background did a 4 1/2 front flip and landed quads with up to 1440 degrees of spin back as early as 1997. We definitely weren't the only ones doing it either. I remember we would often meet other people and invite them over for a session and their were other talented cliques. I think the main thing that led to the rapid progression was having peers supporting and pushing each other. After I went to University we sold our trampoline and I remember eventually all the good original trampolines had disappeared due to the fact the springs would rust and break and were not easily replaceable and therefore they became sparse. Eventually they were replaced by the netted ones that were less bouncy and you often needed a double or triple bounce to do anything remotely cool. I am glad to see the sport as resurfaced and I wish we had digital cameras back then. There was a lot of crazy stuff done that wasn't recorded or had to be recorded on some shaky VHS tape. Anyway great video. Subscribed.

It's funny how terms like the "double bounce" proliferate. We had a backyard trampoline when I was a kid in the early 2000s just to play around on, and everyone knew what a double bounce was. But it's not like there was some kind of community anyone was a part of that we learned these terms from.

Double backflips are all a mental game in the end, the first time I tried one i necked so hard because I was trying to spot the black bed of the trampoline but I spotted the net and opened after and a quarterish flips, but I can now do standing double back on a circle berg trampoline without any mental hesitation! You should definitely learn a double backflip someday into a foam pit, it’s the weirdest feeling for the first time but it’s so comfortable at the same time, hard to explain but you’ll know what I mean

I love how the kaboom is named after the sound it makes when it happens because it really does sound like a kaboomq

When I was a young teen I'd jump on my friends' tramps every day with my brothers and friends. Those were some of the best memories: making up games, trying tricks, and just goofing off. Life was so simple; it was magic. This video was wonderful. Hell, all your videos are.

Thanks for making a vid on gtramp🙏 I can confirm that pretty much everyone in the community was inspired by xtreme flippers and tanner. Also I'm going to meet all of radial flipz this week😮

This video is so good man, and that comes from a "flipper". But the way you called the flips at around 15 minutes was hilarious. It's not "times", you'd just say "to" or "x". Anyways great stuff

Doubles on “garden” tramps have been done for ages though, that was really new, 2 1/4-2 3/4 have been pretty common on garden tramps for years. The triple and above is a whole nother thing though.

If the gymnastics associations around the world had any sense to them, they would get the g-tramp/flippers/whatever people in to their sport under some "freestyle" categories.
