Concrete evidence of why that man was one of the four Roadrunner United "captains" (alongside Rob Flynn, Dino Cazares, and Joey Jordison) when he was around 20 years old, after two great albums in Trivium- only one of which was a RR release...ONE ALBUM. (Ascendancy) A musical virtuoso and prodigy, a songwriter that has that incredibly rare "special shine" that stands out well above the rest...he is an incredible and god-level talented musician. Also love how self-aware and constructively articulate he is too. This was a great insight video!
I love this type of video Trey! Its like when you have a great meal and the chef invites you back into the kitchen to show you how/why the food was so good! Its really a privilege to see how an artist creates their art.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone, let alone Matt himself, say his last name. For 15 years, I've always read it as "Hee-fee". Now I come to find out it's actually pronounced "Hey-fee". Mindblown.
It's been his full-time profession for over 20 years at this point. It's the product of his drive and time invested - something we can all take inspiration from.
Eventgericht Ideenfunkkugel Matt said he was asked to write a song for a band but they never called him back about it (he’s never said what band but most people think it’s Upon A Burning Body) and after that he decided to use it for Trivium. The demo is on RU-vid and it’s really different but still amazing
This is excellent and thanks for posting it. This is what I needed for recording the 2021 sessions. Im in the writing stage and Matt nailed it. I've done some of what he's doing but watching this gives me some huge ideas. HIGHLY Recommend this to anyone who write songs in any style of music.
Will they really have to put the timeframe when they filmed the video so you can chill the fuck out? this was obviously recorded way before they even started touring last month
I love Trivium! So this was an awesome insight into Matt’s writing process. I can’t wait till it’s released. Hopefully it’ll be on the new/next album. Trey’s vocals are just as awesome as Matt’s. It was also nice of Matt to let Trey have a vocal line on the track.
This was most likely recorded before the tour started. As of late last night, the twins still haven’t been born, and their dog Miyuki is sick. Best way to stay up to date is his twitter or Instagram.
I’m about to start writing lyrics for my solo EP, And this is really helping me because I haven’t really wrote lyrics before and I was so stuck I think this will help me get unstuck.
This is pretty much how I’ve written lyrics for the 50+ songs I’ve done. In my experience, it’s much easier to fit lyrics in once you’ve found an idea for the melody or rhythm of the vocals. A good idea for finding a style that fits you is to write as you’re recording, like Matt is doing here. That way you can hear when something doesn’t sound right immediately and address it, and you’re less likely to spend two hours overthinking the words, which often leads to a lack of enthusiasm or unfinished songs.
What the fuck is up with those screams? They sound like some one is doing deep grudge croaks and trying to talk but on the program they sound heavily distorted and layered. Why did we get the shit take when the good ones are not recorded or did he just use effects to make that puppy dog sounding growl sound good?
Matt uses a very specific vocal technique because it's the safest technique for his voice. He has said himself it sounds alright live but he uses his old screams on the albums cause the safe scream sounds really weird recorded
Trivium is by far the MOST commercial band I have ever heard. Its so commercial it almost makes me wanna gag. The vocalist is a huge Kirk Hammet wanna be also. On a positive note, commercial or not, they do their craft well and they respect the old bands. To me thats almost everything so i dont bash em much.
"i dont have very good memory retention for things that arnt things that i came up with" matt. Well fuck man you just described my problem with learning guitar songs.
matt, everyone like ur high, everyone who listen to Trivium everytime, what u have make with your voice, your voice was done ( done is a hart fucking hart word) and now, what shall i say, im so fucking happy, your high is amazing. greetings from Germany :)
i keep lookin at the ears... very well healed cauli i think but i can never tell.. pro example of a dude with a couple high maintenance hobbies. high lvl bjj and musician always striving to be better the two go hand in hand. matt heafy for the win when it comes to personal advancement
