In this addition to my series on van Gogh, I paint a copy of 'Cornfield, With Cypresses' to show you how Vincent's technique contributed to the magic of his paintings.
Working on top of a ground, using dry brush work to build up layers of colour, drawing with paint, using impasto, creating space through overlaps - we will see how all these techniques combine with his amazing colours to produce such powerful masterpieces.
Time-lapse photography condenses around 4 hours work to just a few minutes while my voice-over explains the different challenges and techniques used at each stage.
This video is part of a short series I have made to help you steal from Vincent - arguably the greatest colourist that has ever lived. Don't forget to subscribe to see more from Great Artists Steal!

Imagine how it did it from real life with ever changing light. The expression and natural landscape nevermind copying. That alone makes you appreciate not only skills but what he was seeing with his eyes and mind. Then years and years ago how advanced these beautiful artists were and sadly how under appreciated they were. In their time. How amazing and beautiful

This is brilliant, you should be really happy with it! Saw the original in London about a month ago, and it is just pure colour and light. So much fun.

It's really difficult to understand how no one was really interested in buying Van Goghs art while he was alive, he was an excellent artist!

Devi fare le riprese stando attento a posizionare l obiettivo in modo da non coprire con la mano il colore sulla tavolozza

Of course. The point is to show Van Gogh’s approach. Van Gogh has already shown how good you can get if you spend time practising this technique.
