The inventor of these robots 🤖 really knew how to make them , I bet he said “ I did it “ in Japanese , do you know who that was ? Thanks John

It all happened after the war with Japan, All there engineers were not allowed to work in the military fields any more by the USA so they found work in the toy industry, and so all kinds of great mechanical design came from that. Also Japan copied so many mechanical designs from the German toys and advanced them from windup to battery operation.

I remember wondering how one motor (or two)was able to make all those functions work!

I am in awe looking at the genius engineering that went into this robot. Japan really is the King in that industry. Thank you for videoing the robot surgery. Perhaps this might give me an idea what to expect in an old used TV robot I bought on ebay.

Fascinating!I’ve repaired a few robots in recent years and I’ve always wondered how the ramp gears worked. Thanks!!

I love these robots so much but the gears wearing out really sucks, is there a way to replace the brass and steel gears in order to keep em going ?
@Robothut
@Robothut 11 месяцев назад
Yes many of the repro robots made in China will work as a source of gears to keep the vintage robot going.

I’m impressed with the mechanical ingenuity. Too bad they cheaped out with the plastic gears for the legs. Since everything else was metal, I can’t see how it would add much more expense to make those out of metal too.
@Robothut

The helical gears in the walk mechanics can not be stamped out like the large flat gears , or extruded like the small brass gears. It costs alot more to machine them out in metal compared to the plastic ones that can be cast in low cost molds.

Can you tell me where to get a replacement motor for the swivel matic robot? I have the all metal human face astronaut version. A link to one would be great!
@Robothut
@Robothut Год назад
Generally, it is easier to fix the motor than replace it. The motors almost never go bad, what they normally need is the brushes cleaned with some spray contact cleaner. Now if you do need to replace the motor the problem is that they used so many slightly different motors that mounting a new motor can be hard unless it is the same motor case design. Old toys and new batter toy repro's is the best place to find motors of the same type design.

@@Robothut ok, I'm just getting a robot that the seller says isn't working. I'm just trying to get ahead of it in case I end up needing a motor. What cleaner do you suggest?
@Robothut
@Robothut Год назад
@@kgandcats The problem will be either the battery contacts, the switch, cold solder connection or the motor just needs to have its shaft rotated with power ON. A drop of oil on the motor shaft bearing is a good idea. Any spray contact cleaner will work as long as it is safe to use on plastic parts. The can will state "safe for plastic".
