not all visvim products is made in japan, the virgil folks for example are made in china. actually a good portion of their products are made in china. not to say that things that are made in china are bad quality, just that saying all their products are hand made in japan is simply not true.
Visvim doesn't make their all of their fabrics themselves, that is such a ridiculous claim. It's interesting that they talk about their products as intended for long wear, as if they transcend fashion. At the same time their garments and fits have changed drasticly over the last 15 years. Visvim pieces are not timeless, they are fashion. Their story attracts a wealthy clientele, that is very far removed from the story of master craftsmanship, cultural heritage and traditional techniques. Its ironic that he sells these goods to the wealthy, who atribute the most to the dead of these traditions and craftmanships. Secondly i think what is really missing in this video is the different tiers of visvim products. They have their staples, which come back every year and change a little but largely stay the same. They have their more exclusive releases that are only sold in their FIL stores. Then they have their ICT collection that sells in even less spaces. But they also do unique pieces in very limited quantities, only made on order. These are really a class of their own. In my opinion these are the real collectible visvim pieces that deserve the praise visvim gets. Their other stuff is just fashion with a bigger focus on materials and construction.
Great video! The only thing I think you got wrong is the steady price increase of Hiroki's clothes - his prices have increased wayyy out of proportion to any rise in the cost of materials, particularly in the past 5-7 years when the hype has been at its highest. There's nothing wrong with that, he's ultimately a businessman and Visvim regularly sells out, though you're now starting to see items reach sale season in the past couple years, so maybe he's overshot. The 20L bag is now over $1k US retail and anyone who has handled the earlier versions will tell you the quality was better back then.
The quality of visvim garments then compared to now depends. I'd argue the quality is the same or better, but the price increase has made it unjustifiable to buy the goods at retail price. Think of Montblanc Fountain pens for example, I'd argue that the old ones are better in some ways but the new ones are better quality. However I still buy the old ones because the quality is still just as good and comes in at a fraction of the cost. The quality back then wasn't better, it was just better for the cost you paid back then. Most of their garments are still insanely high quality such as their social sculpture denim for example. However I wouldn't be caught dead paying retail prices, when I could get their raw denim for $300 or less compared to their $600 retail price. In many cases, the $300 pair will still be in new or like new condition. To summarize, the quality hasn't decreased what you get for the amount you pay has. Along with retail prices skyrocketing most fans can't justify buying retailed so they buy on sites such as grailed. So while I agree with you on your first part, the idea that visvims quality has gone down is false
@@joelstatosky1817 I agree that it varies by item. I'm speaking specifically to the backpacks - those are undoubtedly less impressive than versions from ~2011-2014 - it's not even close
@@steeler7588 In regards to backpacks and accessories I agree. Especially things like shoes. Visvim does this because they know they can get away with it sadly. In regards to clothing, they haven't decreased quality because they know the loyal fans would freak out. Those fans being me
I still can't believe how well-executed your videos are, you feel can feel the passion through the presentation alone! Great video, would love to see more on 'deeper' brands like Visvim, CCP, etc.
Awesome video. I’m always surprised there’s not more out there on Visvim. A lot of the Visvim items I own are actually made in China. Only 1/5 items I own from them is made in Japan. How do you feel about such high prices and products still coming from China?
VSVM has been made in China if not for a decade but for years. Before that the sneakers fbt etc were made in Korea. Always got what you paid for tho and feel free to be not biased for the product origin. Blesses.
A lot of inaccuracies in this video. Firstly, the FBT's have never been made in Japan, it was Korea to begin with and then China presently. Second, visvim is a brand not a manufacturer, they don't make things in house they do the design in house.
I remember just a few years ago no visvim products had a brand logo displayed to the public. then I think the products were solely for high quality with a luxury price, for people with deep pockets; it is no reason Kanye West, and John Mayor were mentioned for wearing them. They’re were not buying products that last years of wear or look amazing; they were (buying?) products that are expensive and exclusive. Now Visvim puts their name on display on many products, as a billboard. Don’t get me wrong, I do like the brand and their unique looks. But the brand IS a brand, and one that is for luxury despite not having posh looks. The brand is not a story of ‘this piece is made of rare materials that are difficult to source’. Heck, they have used leather from Horween Leather Company in the USA, and Vibram soles for their boots; there’s nothin wrong with that, but it shows the brand is not just finding rare and ancient crafted materials that are difficult to source.
No offense, but some of their sneakers are made in china for sure. I think good quality products never have to have connection with "where it is made". A good quality product is the attitude with brand names or designers. Visvim is a special brand because it has its own philosophy behind the brand name. Respect to 中村世纪.
Thanks for the support, the logo says 2018 because thats the year we started. the logo will stay the same because its a reminder of when we started. hope this clears it!
Soo, I wonder: He talks alot about beeing authentic. But his indigo jeans are stone washed. But real jeans are allways raw. This is in my opinion a little bit contradictory...
