John Wall talks about his welcome to college moment, a hilarious story with Boogie Cousins and his burning feet. They also talk about what it’s actually like playing at the University of Kentucky.
People south of KY don't consider KY southern. When I lived in FL, everyone told me that KY wasn't the south. I always told them to go there and then say that.
I'm a Kentucky boy from the eastern side of the state. It's truly a border state he's saying that bc of the cold weather. It's a northern state in the fall and winter for sure. As far as heritage It's a mixing pot I'm a southern boy but it's truly a mix of the north and south but most people in the south consider tennessee the northern most state bc it was a confederate state
Man I forgot about Devan Downey at South Carolina. He was the best player in college basketball that nobody talked about because he never played on an NCAA Tournament team. But just hearing John Wall say this tells anyone how good Downey was.
I love hearing this. This is the side of success that most don’t see…the ugly painful aspect of running as many suicides as you can, sprinting, for 20mins. (Anyone who’s played at a minimum high school basketball or any other activity that involves running suicides knows how intense that would be). This excruciating pain behind the scenes with strength and conditioning, combined with talent and intense scrimmages and other competition with teammates is so much a part of high level sports and why it’s utterly laughable for a casual ball player to think that they could outperform a college athlete and especially a professional…this is why Scalabrinie says he’s closer to LeBron than most people on the planet is to him when it came to basketball skills. Without this preparation, imagine how traumatic it’d be playing a basketball team that’s well conditioned and all about uptempo with a guard like Westbrook, D-Rose, Iverson, Muggsy, Nash that’s all about sprinting while the opponent’s thighs are burning and it’s only 3 mins into the first quarter….or even like the Warriors and they’re hitting 3 after 3 and your legs feel like jelly while your coach is on the sideline yelling at you to get the ball up the court and now the other team is coming at you with a full court press and your energy is lower and lower (this is exactly what’ll happen if you don’t run intensely in practice until your motor improves).
Bruh John wall got the best stories and is a great story teller of basktetball behind the scenes and real raw shit. Vlad need to hit up wall for a interview 🔥💯
@@RunYourRaceTL I feel it. Makes sense as he was open and had trust with yall heavy cause the NC connection and roots. Mabey vlad could reach out now and start building that relationship and trust, then maybe after John wall retires he could do an interview. Similar to gilbert arenas vlad interviews
Running Rebels were like the Phoenix Suns with Nash and Shawn Marion w/Amar’e in the 00s…except the Rebels were more scarier for opponents because oftentimes they did that against teams that were conditioned no where near their level because they were college (at least the Suns were playing against NBA Teams who all had a somewhat comparable level of conditioning).
I think it’s the kings organization. I remember we had boogie, Isaiah Thomas and Rudy gay all averaging over 20. But we got rid of Isaiah and he goes on to have a career year in Boston. I remember boogie being devastated over that.
I went to uk and he ain’t lying about how cold it is specifically on campus. Coming from eastern ky you got the mountains protecting you. The wind cuts through you and it is shocking. A reason not to go to class. I partied with J Wall on Halloween. He was dancing with a white girl and I was dancing with a black girl and we had this what up moment on the dance floor. He almost hit my girlfriend a, few days after they lost to West Virginia, in his brand new Range Rover. If he’d hit her, she’d survived and we’d have more land and a bigger house🤣😂.
That’s crazy before I got to the end of this video I searched devin Downey because I got a flashback of whe they beat Kentucky that year Columbia was lit
My baby bro Mikhail Torrance played for Bama in 2010 and gave John Wall a good challenge.. that game actually boosted my brother draft stock.. Peace to JW and Boogie .. MOBTOWN stand up
Listen and looking at athletes training 😂man yawl have me reevaluating my life 😂OnG Because I was a beast during my military years 😤I never knew I was that more athletic than average people until I got in the army I swear ,I never complained about physical work or fitness I thought I should just go harder 😅
I wouldn't say you were more athletic lol, had that been that case you would've devoted more time into sports. I'd say you were a hell of a grinder, which is something that some Pro athletes do not always need because they're so damn athletic and or gifted. You're a special breed nonetheless but you could also have been an extremely hard worker and not had a lick of athleticism.
@@bbyglo if I was out of shape and horribly disfigured or had no coordination I’d consider what you’re saying but I’ve beat athletes before it’s nothing to it if you’re just naturally good at something, during my era when I was young it took money to hone in your kid’s talent or gifts the world was quite different for low income families in the 80”s and 90”s ,my momma also wasn’t going to invest in one child while taking food out of my siblings mouth ,nice try though Athletes are natural but it ain’t always about that cause I know they wouldn’t be able to do my job well just like I wouldn’t be able to theirs as well that’s just my opinion, cause I’ll take they azz down through there with my stripes on 😤military make boys into men
@@dirtybirdznlithoniaco9835 I only made hypotheticals, never accused you of anything brudda. I also very much understand that lol it's still the same way today for a lot of sports outside of basketball & football etc... soccer etc in America is money based so I get what you mean lol I was just offering another standpoint:) I have no doubt that those pro athletes can't do your job, I know that they can't, majority don't have that level of dedication beyond their sport at hand... hence why I said you're a special breed nonetheless:)
@@ljayydagoat7113nah big homie I excelled before getting injured in combat in Iraq I was already in my 10th yr I was a lifer I wanted to do 25 yrs and plus already been to major evaluation board to move to E-6 staff sergeant, although I was rough around the edges I knew my responsibilities ,cut my career completely short I did 2 months in an coma and had rehabilitation for a yr and was medically retired out after 7 deployments in combat
It ain’t that cold lmao. I live right across the bridge from Louisville. He talking about walking to class, imagine the kids like me an shit that had to wait early in the morning on the bus stop waiting for the damn bus to come everyday 😂 I remember John an them bringing so much faith back to Kentucky an putting Hope back into Kentucky fans. I remember ordering the two tone shooting sleeve because of him and everything. I remember him hitting the game winner against Miami(OH) in his first college game. Also him coming out hitting the dougie and making the flex his signature dance but everyone already knew it because a rapper in Louisville created it but John Wall made it go worldwide. 😂 only thing wrong with that team that year is we couldn’t shoot to save our lives. If we would of had 2-3 consistent 3pt shooters we’d of went all the way but WV exposed us
In all honesty making DMC run when his feet were on fire isn't the best idea. Especially now he's out of the league due to leg injuries. Dude was huge.
SEC basketball programs do not baby the players even Kentucky. That’s why I thought Chet Holmgren shoulda gone to a different school than Gonzaga he needed to go somewhere that would toughen him up
Dynasty hasn't been a word used in college basketball since UCLA. Cal has done great his whole career at UK. Kids are either great or not thats what it comes down to. Kids don't want to make championship teams they want a ticket to the NBA.
@@will-i-am386Yeah you kinda did with this line.............. Kids don't want to make championship teams they want a ticket to the NBA................Plus I watched an interview on youtube of Hank Aaron...................His words were " It aint always about the money".................
@Pete391 No, I kind of didn't. Since the meaning went over your head. The best players are not going to 1 school they are spreading out and making a name for them selves. That has nothing to do with wanting to win a championship in the moment but it also shows they don't want or need that college chip to get paid and let's be honest it's about the pay. Money makes the world go round, and the only people saying it's not about the money are those that are already paid!
@@RunYourRaceTL go watch “club shay shay” no intro just Watermarks.. or Vlad, his only 5 seconds .. we don’t need a whole ass trailer before every short video bro .. especially the same one over and over .. I’m unsubscribing ✌️
Quit acting like uk, didn't have these things I'm from lex my whole life, the kentucky sports medicine rehabbed my arm in baseball and I was in high-school, john acts like he played in the 80s. If Jodi Meeks came back that year we win the title, Dodson was the only shooter on that team, Meeks was prolific shooter. Also the wost combined GPA in the Cal era.
