I like to think of Alien 3 as a nightmare Newt is having while in cryosleep.
@Farlomous
@Farlomous 6 лет назад
i agree, the haphazard of it all, the few plot holes as if it is being seen in third-person with not all the details. the feeling of being trapped and unable to do anything. would be a perfect way to write the movie off and reboot the series from that point as I assume Blombkamp was planning to do before Ridley forcing his movie to be canceled

Yeah, I mean the setting and mood of the movie is depressing, nothing adds up and it's completely disjointed, there's a feeling of hopelessness throughout; it's a nightmare. I actually like it as a standalone movie for a few reasons but I don't like to connect it back to the first 2 movies because it just doesn't fit.
@SonAlexander

I view it more as a nightmare by Ripley, mainly because if you die in a dream you wake up. However, it could be Newt's because she was in Cryo, and we have no idea how a waking nightmare would work in suspended animation

The only problem with the "Newt was already infected" theory is that when we see Ripley rescue Newt from the hive in Aliens, an egg is clearly opening in front of Newt. Why would the egg open if Newt was already carrying an Alien embryo?
@nuntana2
@nuntana2 9 месяцев назад
Newt never was. It was just poor writing and the whole egg-on-the-dropship scenario was pants. Alright, they had to kill her off because she would have aged between Aliens and 3 which would've thrown off Ripley's non-ageing by 57 years, but it is still crap as she was a great little character. No Biehn either. Good performances from Dance and Weaver, but big disappointment and the poorest of the 6. Prometheus could have been an epic (poor cast/mis-casting), while Covenant went too far off tangent. Should have stuck with the Engineers; that's what people wanted.

On a lark, the Queen instead impregnated Newt with a super hugger, which contained both a new queen AND a drone to protect her. Therefore, the egg pod in front of Newt didn’t open because it detected pheromones which caused it to not open.

They dont need recurring characters as much as they need solid writing. Look at the best film, Alien. It didnt have the burden of fleshed out characters. Instead you watch real character development and effort to ground these people in reality. From griping about their bosses and shares, ect.. That alone offers much greater potential than holding on to old storylines and offers new perspective.

I can accept the "Super Hugger" theory since it has been expanded upon in subsequent lore development through the comics and novels, plus it's visibly depicted in the workprint edition. As already pointed out by most others, Alien 3 was just completely gutted by plot holes and studio interference. The idea of the embryo being able to slither out of a host and move to another, I cannot accept. Therein lies the problem of the inconsistency of the Alien life-cycle. Every movie after Alien 3, even Ridley Scott's own Prometheus prequel series, has sharply deviated from the established gestation time of an alien. In Alien thru Alien 3, it took a considerable amount of time...24 - 48 hours at least for a drone. Sure...maybe the queen is "special" and therefore in its early gestational stages, is more equipped to survive. But then you had those shit-on-a-film-reel Alien vs Predator movies, wherein the total gestation time from Hugger-to-burster-to-adult was roughly 15 minutes. Then there was Alien: Covenant - hugger-to-burster-to-adult in...what...6 minutes? And facehugger impregnation time less than 1 minute? I can accept Newt having already been impregnated after being captured, but again...facehugger attachment time had been shown to be lengthy...several hours. Another inconsistency. So I think overall the "super hugger" theory is the most logical...a specially equipped "survival of the hive" facehugger that carries a queen and a protective drone/warrior so the queen can survive.

Although you have to take into account that the Predators had bred the aliens so they could have found a way to modify the xenos lifecycle to make it faster/slower etc. Then, in Alien Covenant, these are also not necessarily the same organisms since (if I remember correctly) those aliens are the precursors to the Aliens from Alien/Aliens and there is a lot of evolutionary processes that could change them. If the aliens in Covenant weren't the precursors and were just organisms that were similar/modified by the android, then it's the same argument where they are different than the organisms in other films. In regard to Newts impregnation, there's a theory that she was impregnated before Ripley ever got to her and that's why the Xenos left her alive and left her alone all that time. And this is either part of the same theory or a different theory, but I read somewhere that people were saying a queen embryo can sense another queen and it won't hatch until it's far enough away so that they don't fight over territory.

@kensantapaga2199 6 лет назад
And also, if Newt was infected before the events of Aliens and eventually found, it means the gestation period of the Alien embryo is erratic. This doesn't make sense to me as the general idea is that the embryo develops quickly. First example is Covenant, although it varies in other media as well. Newt showed no signs of infection when she was alive.
@ivanharlokin
@ivanharlokin 6 лет назад
I agree. I did wonder whether an explaination could lie in the fact that it was a queen embyro. It may be the case that queen xenomorphs emit pheromones (or similar) preventing or retarding the gestation of other potential queens. Such embryos might be able to lie dormant in hosts, and only develop when they are sufficiently far away from an existing queen.

I actually liked *Aliens: Colonial Marines*. The game was pretty fun for me despite in noticeable imperfections. And it did contributed some very useful information to the lore, like, why it's fatal to remove the alien embryo from an infected host (like the WY surgeon said: "It's like a 'cancer' that roots itself onto the organs, and removing it would slowly shutdown all organs killing the host."). I was glad to see that Hicks survived (in the game's own canon, of course). There are numerous adaptations from books, comics and games that contradict each-other, but it's up to us, the fans, to have fun connecting them and choose our own personal canon- for me... Colonial Marines is canon (Hicks was a great character who didn't deserve to be killed-of like that in ALIEN 3). I definitely enjoyed ALIEN ISOLATION as well!

My theory is that eggs with queen embryos are specially kept as a species survival subject. When the Queen left the hive to hunt down Ripley, she picked it up one with another guardian egg because aliens were smart to detect a possible anhilation situation like it happen in the first movie. The Queen then concealed the eggs before engaging the humans in the Sulacco in case she gets destroyed.
@johnotis6764
@johnotis6764 3 года назад
Wasn't one of the two other cryostasis beds (not Ripley's) obviously breached by the facehugger, which sets Ripley on the hunt for the Alien in the first place. Hicks was impaled in the crash landing, and Newt's body was examined by Ripley and the doctor on Fury and found to be uninfected. Ripley's cryostasis bed was intact. So, the only way for her to be inpregnated with an egg would have been, well, when? If there was an alien other than the queen on board the Sulago, then one would think the ship's sensors would have detected it. But....Bishop, confirms that there was an alien on board "all the way," which points to the idea that the Wayland corp was still working covertly to preserve a specimen. Still, none of this really explains how or when Ripley was impregnated. The facehugger that was injured and stsrts the fire apparently didn't impregnate Newt or Hicks. And as I stated earlier, Ripley's CSB was not breached (at least not in a way that was obvous). I don't have acess to the films, so I'm going by memory, but it would seem that there is still no logical explanation for how Ripley was impregnated

So after this video I went back and watched Aliens and Alien3 again. I'm torn between something here. I feel like Newt couldn't have been impregnated because when she was in the hive at the end she was clearly placed with a lone egg that opened up to impregnate her before Ripley showed up. Had she been impregnated before that (like the Dog Alien sensed) I feel the xenomorphs would have sensed she was carrying and left her alone. But then I got to thinking....shes the lone survivor? Of everyone? Maybe the xenos WERE leaving her alone and sh*t only hit the fan when the marines showed up and attracted the hive. Maybe Newt was taken into the hive and kept so the embryo inside her could be safe. It doesn't explain the egg fully but perhaps the egg opened early because it sensed either Ripley was near or the Queen was in danger and the eggs instinctively open and scurry for survival? Either way, it's all in how you take it. I can tell you though for sure I think Newt surviving had a lot more to do with her just being sneaky.

I know what you mean...it's confusing. So we know the dog alien came from a face hugger getting a hold of the dog on fury161. That much is known as we clearly see the birthing of the alien. So now we know that, we also know Ripley had the queen inside her as well. So any way you look at it there was two eggs on the Sulaco. The scans in the opening credits did show a facehugger on someone. With all the above acknowledged I tend to believe that there was at least two eggs, or perhaps a lose facehugger with an egg on the Sulaco. The more I think about it the more I contradict my own thoughts...this is confusing. I hate to chalk it up to plot holes. But this really is confusing.

So I just re-watched Aliens last night and I think it would have had to have been a royal facehugger. When Ripley goes back into the coolant hive to find Newt, we see an egg opening in front of her encasement. This was clearly intended to impregnate her with an embryo. Ripley saves the day, sparing her that fate. IF Newt had already been impregnated by an Alien Queen previous to the Marines arrival at Hadley's Hope, then it doesn't make sense for the egg to have been placed there upon her capture, as she would have already been a host.

Ripken asks what are those and Bishop says that Burke gave him orders to learn all he could and than gather the rest for further research. It’s possible that Bishop although a good robot was also under orders to take samples and store them on the sulaco even after Burke’s death-to complete his orders and in those crates there was face huggers and other data and possibly more(eggs) and they were used on them during part 2 and 3. Not saying Bishop deliberately killed them but by bringing them on board and by accident they were impregnated.

See, this makes sense... except that the egg in the movie is laid upside down in an alcove. Unlikely Bishop put it there in that way. They'd still be packed. Bishop didn't have time to unpack them before the Queen took Bishop, and he certainly wasn't in a state to unpack them after! But I really like your thinking and much prefer it to some of the nonsense that's used to 'fix' what is, ultimately, just an error and bad screenwriting.

I also agree and what if bishop was on orders from the company as well. Look at his journey to pilot the other drop ship down. Then he had leave to recircle back around.... bishop could have left back to the sulaco dropped the eggs off under orders then get back to pick up ripley and newt.

Bishop wasn't even in one piece when reboarding the Sulaco. The queen got him almost right away, so no possibility that Bishop planted anything. At the very least, he wouldn't have put the egg in an EEV.

The answer is Bishop. While he may have been a "good" android, I get the sense that his "secret" programming was much the same as Alien 1. Notice that in Aliens (aka Alien 2), when Ripley descents the elevator to rescue Newt she comes back up the elevator and Bishop has disappeared (along with the drop ship?). This time-gap allows more than enough time for Bishop to store an Egg aboard the Emergency pod/ship. While the opening sequence to Alien 3 does only show one egg, that does not definitively mean that there couldn't have been a 2nd egg that Bishop stored, or a live facehugger itself (we dont know how long they can survive outside of their egg, but the Med Bay scene in Alien 1 and the Infirmary scene in Alien 2 suggest at least a few hours. More than enough time for Ripley, Hicks, and Newt to cryosleep while it waits and hides. There is also a significant portion of time from when Bishop accesses the COMs satellite to remote-control the dropship. What was he doing during the time he was waiting for the dropship to reach the surface? If he could remote control the drop ship, could he also remote control the Rescue/emergency pod? If so, perhaps that explains not only how the egg(s) got onto that ship, but also WHY the ship lands at the prison in the Alien 3 movie. Perfect location: inmates are "expendable" and "undefended", and under government jurisdiction, while not directly have any government persons there to Witness the Corporate taking the organism at the end.

@@juanausensi499 easy, the Xenos want to spread and multiply. They know/sense Bishop cannot be a host, but he isnt a threat to them either. The Xenos guard the queen, not necessarily the eggs. The eggs are designed to be left behind dormant and activate in the presence of a viable host. Bishop being near them wouldnt activate them. Definitely a viable counter-point. I guess we will never know for sure, but it is fun to think about and I think my theory not only gives Bishop more depth-of-character, but also explains those missing minutes when Ripley arrives at the top of the elevator and Bishop isnt there with the ship. Like, there is no reason for him to have left and come back otherwise.

the egg was not located in an area of the Sulaco where the queen had been. she had only been in that one room with ripley after getting off the drop ship. if anything the egg should have been in the landing gear of the drop ship, yet that's not where it was depicted. also we don't know if the queen is capable of laying eggs without an ovipositor. The eggs are so large that she clearly doesn't keep fully formed eggs inside of her body directly. mostly likely they grow larger as they travel through the ovipositor and are eventually pushed out. if she could have fully formed eggs inside her, then she wouldn't need her ovipositor in the first place.

Pretty sure it's explained by the obvious larger queen/royal facehugger that is different to normal ones in that it can lay multiple embryos (the first being a new queen) and doesnt die until its final embryo has been laid. I believe the longer gestation of the queen embryo is completely by design as she is bigger and more complex and it also gives the other warrior alien time grow to full size and eliminate any immediate threats in the area before the new queen is born. Remember that the alien is all about extreme survival, possibly able to adapt its own reproductive process on the fly as it senses its own survival situation.

I’ve said this before. Alien 3 is the perfect way to end Ripley’s story. The xenomorph took everything from her. It killed her crew from the Nostromo. Those events robbed her of her daughter. And ultimately the xenomorph would take her life. As for the Queen Ripley was carrying and how the egg got aboard the Sulaco. The Queen brought it with her, or at least brought a royal facehugger on board. This facehugger was then able to cocoon itself in an egg-like form to hide during the chaos of the battle between Ripley and the Queen, and later “hatch” itself. It attempted to get to Newt but injured itself, causing the fire which begun the evacuation of the cryo tubes, and then moved on and successfully got to Ripley. It remained attached to Ripley during the EEV arrival on Fury-161, thus preventing her from drowning. When Ripley was discovered on the beach on Fury-161, the facehugger had already detached itself and was looking for a second host.

I've always assumed that it was either 1) a "super facehugger" that can impregnate at least two hosts, one with a queen and one with a drone to protect it, or 2) two separate eggs on the Sulaco (just because only one is shown doesn't mean there couldn't have been another), and thus two facehuggers, one that impregnates Ripley with a queen, and the other that makes it down to Fury 161 and impregnates the dog. I think explanation 1 is the simplest, and the one for which there's the most evidence in the film (including alternate cuts). I don't know what the novelization is trying to do with describing a facehugger trying to break open Newt's hypersleep chamber and dying(?) in the process (besides retconing the shots of a facehugger stalking her chamber and its glass cracking). (Also, what happens after that? If that facehugger dies trying to impregnate Newt, where does the queen and runner come from? Does the novelization describe more facehuggers?) The comic book's explanation of Newt actually being impregnated with the queen, which then transfers to Ripley when she dies, is even more ridiculous. These only create more plot holes or stretch the limits of the alien's biology way too far. Even the super facehugger theory doesn't completely answer some questions raised by the opening sequence, like how Newt's hypersleep chamber is cracked, whose human blood is shown spreading, and how acid blood was spilled (though since we know that facehuggers can secrete acid, at least that's not too hard to explain). I'm afraid that it was just very poorly thought through, whether that's the fault of the writers, director, or the editors, or some combination of them. No amount of fan theorizing is going to make it consistent. It's a shame, because I really do like Alien 3. I understand why fans would hate it for killing off Hicks and Newt so unceremoniously, but I think that is consistent with Ripley's character arc: She is condemned to fight the alien--alone--until she dies. It's more powerful that way. It's fun to imagine what it would have been like had Hicks and Newt lived, but I don't like how much it would inevitably change Ripley as a character. She's a lone wolf. And I like a lot of things about Alien 3's concept, and think that on its own it's a well done film. And for me, it's always been a part of the alien universe, and it would be like an act of violence to just retcon it out of existence.
@TheSeadragon78urz
@TheSeadragon78urz 6 лет назад
The comic version makes no sense because the embryo is too big at that point to move down a windpipe and locate in the chest cavity as it would mortally kill the host. In Alien the embryo grows in the location or better yet, the cells pass through the lung tissue and bond to the chest cavity wall. This way the host stays alive and breaths normal until the creature emerges. The bigger problem here is and was that they show only one egg but there are TWO face huggers. The one that impregnates Ripley and the one that gets the Dog/Ox. Remember, they show the full un webbed fingers at the beginning of the movie. Then the image of the facehugger in the EEV and then one in the cart with webbed fingers after they tie up the ox.

I am in the camp of Alien 3 not being canon. There is ZERO way for that egg to be on the Sulaco. The Queen ripped off here egg sack and had nothing with her when she chased Ripley and had nothing when it came out from the drop ship. There was not enough time for Bishop to go get a egg from somewhere be it the nest or from the derelict then make it back to Ripley and Newt to rescue them. The whole movie plot revolves around a giant plot hole and I don't just accept that studio's "you just have to accept there is a egg on the Sulaco " argument because it makes ZERO sense.

Except Newt couldn't have been... ☝️In Aliens, Newt was rescued as Ripley defended her TWICE. First by fighting the released facehugger in medlab.. again later from a designated facehugger while she was resin-encased and ready for impregnating. These happened _on-screen with no ambiguity._ ✌Later in Alien3, Newt drowned "asleep in her cryotube" with no evidence of trauma to the tissues of the throat or chest; thus never having a gestating alien inside. The autopsy is performed _on screen with NO ambiguity._ (Even if she had been impregnated prior to the Aliens events, and the aliens _were_ willing to re-implant her,🤯, as some delusional headcanoners suggest; something should show up in autopsy if an immature drone/queen CLAWED its way up and out of a little girl's throat!) 😢It's mostly just poor screenwriting and people _desperately_ looking to justify it years after the fact with comics and loopy headcanon explanations. It's not unlike the fan reaction to recent StarWars and StarTrek. The comics and paperbacks valiantly try to repair the damage inflicted by the movies but it just. doesn't. work. Simply put, Alien3 is a movie full of plot errors due to various causes and turned out with a pretty bad theatrical release. The assembly cut put a nice polish on the turd but it's still a turd.

The real problem with that happened on the Sulaco comes down to continuity errors during the making of the film. For instance, if Newt's cryo glass is cracked in the opening credits, why is the tube intact when we see her drowned body minutes later? There is a clear shot of blood running on a white shirt, but Newt was wearing a dark green army shirt, meaning this is most likely Hicks' chest birthing an alien (the subsequent damage to his body from the safety support obscuring any evidence of this happening) We see two distinct Facehuggers in both versions of the film: a regular on in the Theatrical Cut, and the Royal in the Special Edition. Since Fincher's original concept was the Royal hugger, we should lean towards this version. But thanks to constant last-minute rewrites and reshoots, it is ultimately ambiguous.

I'm normally very anti redo as I think the original is what it is and should be left alone. But it would be something to see the dog alien in its full glory done in current day graphics.

Actually the alien was a puppet filmed in front of blue screen and composited into the live action scenes (I actually thought it was cgi too until I saw a behind the scenes of the film). I believe the only cgi was when the alien had molten lead poured on it. Agreed though, it still looks like crap.

No kidding? I knew they used puppets but I didn't know that's how they did that. I thought the scenes where it was running around in the lead works was CG. I guess that explains why it looked to awkward. It's funny how sometimes less is more. Alien and Aliens never had any such issue because they used suited people and the xenomorph was actually there.

Which is why Alien 3 will be ignored in the franchise. Two possible ways an egg could have gotten onto the Sulaco, it was either the alien queen or Bishop. One of them had ample time to smuggle an egg on board. My bet would be on Bishop, because he could have gone anywhere after leaving the group through that pipeline. He may even have managed to hide an egg on board the second dropship. No real fault of Bishop's because he was instructed by his company masters through his subroutines to do so.
@sebastiannock942
@sebastiannock942 5 лет назад
Considering how much of an explanation Bishop gave as to why he was different than Ash, this works. He said he was "Incapable of causing harm, or allowing harm to come to humans" which may be true in his mainline programming. Also a very good way for the Company to "convince" Ripley he was safe to have around. There's no reason a subroutine of Bishops couldn't have been "when/if the chance arises, subroutine 'collect Alien lifeform' takes over when he is left alone, albeit with no knowledge of his own. Like a temporary switch in programming not registered or remembered by his mainline programming. Also why he never said anything later on when he was back with the rest of the group.

My theory is and still remains Bishop plants it while Ripley goes to rescue Newt. That was why he was late getting to the rendezvous at the platform. There are subtle clues to be read into his face as he studies the facehugger in the lab.
@edwarddore7617
@edwarddore7617 4 года назад
I honestly never thought about the Bishop angle, because in the movie they make him out to be a good guy, not like Ash, but again he's a machine, and if he has some kind of hidden/sleeper programming he's going to do what he's programmed to do, even if part of him doesn't want to, Heck it could be kind of like multiple personality in a human, he might not even remember doing it... apparently I've seen too much of the Westworld TV show. ;)

If Newt was impregnated before Ripley and the Marines ever showed up, why was that face hugger so determined to plant itself on Newt's face? It was obviously going for Newt at the climax of that scene.

A.G. Jaxx Exactly! Newt wasnt impregnated by a facehugger at all in either the Extended Cut or Theatrical releases of AlienS. She screams out loud when she sees the facehugger slowly emerge from its egg and Ripely arrives in nick of time and shoots it up. So never happened feasibly, except sort of the way they showed in Alien 3s opening titles sequence.

A.G. Jaxx I completely agree with you on this. The egg wouldn't have opened up because newt was already impregnated and eggs only open when there is a (fresh host) available for impregnating. Ripley hadn't got to newt yet she heard her screaming at the opening egg.

@MiNi-nn7zi
@MiNi-nn7zi 4 года назад
@Ben Hill Or then its about laziness of audiences imagination. No wonder we get nowadays so much pure BS movies. Like everything would need to be explained. ...Or Newt was impregnated already before Marines rescued her, but left alone because she had queen embryo inside her (that one by non-canonic comic which then moved to Ripley onboard of Sulaco). The hive with queen doesn't need another when there are scarcity of prey present. Instead, it may be better leave that new queen there where its likely to get to contacts with new prey and/or get transferred to another environment. In such environment it maybe useful to delay the development of embryo. Eggs can store facehuggers alive in a state of dormancy very long in proper environment. Why not delaying embryo's growth to chestburster also? Regardless of details, the "plan to spread" was successful, at least until Fiorina-161.

I think that there was only 1 egg and newt was never infected. There would have been trauma evidence discovered when they did her autopsy. The face hugger has been established in cannon to keep a host alive after it attaches as was seen with Kane back in alien after it burned through his helmet in an environment which he would have suffocated. I think the face hugger damaged newts pod (leading to her drowning) and you can see that in the film with the acid burn. Whats ignored is Ripley's shattered tube. Ripley didn't drown because the facehugger was attached and prevented her death, then detached and implanted in the dog / ox (depending on movie or book).

I have to agree with others here. That simply a poor plot devise wad used to continue the franchise. And comic books and other media are bad excuses to explain bad writing in film. We should never have to refer to other puclications after the release of any film to explain it. A solid movie starts with solid writing.

I’m hoping that if Alien 5 (Neil Blomkamp’s purported film) gets made it will right the wrongs that 3 and Resurrection made. I’m not counting what Ridley did with his masturbatory prequel lore films (though David is a brilliant character and I’m not naming those films). Supposedly the idea with his was to bring Ripley and Hicks back.

I do prefer the novelization; to the actual film. Which feels like a weird thing to say, because the source *should* be better by default but it's not. Same with the novelization of Alien Resurrection. In book form there was more room to give the characters actual . . . you know . . . personality. Motivations. Their histories better explored.

The only thing that makes any sense at all is that Newt was impregnated before Ripley rescued her back on LV 426, then frozen for the trip home, so no she never had a chance. But the egg on the Sulaco l, the facehugger that impregnated Ripley with the queen and the one that bled, and crashed the Sulaco was the one on Newt, a "special one," cut itself and mortally wounded itself on its way out of Newt's chamber. Then I can see all the stuff they wrote in.

The video games even got that stuff better than that sad flick did, by at least trying to make them fit in without Ripley being an utter moron (she clearly would have done a full inspection of the Sulaco before going to hypersleep, so any idea she missed an egg is BS on all levels). I don't like Alien 3 because is leaves serious plot holes in the series. How could the queen alien lay eggs after she detached herself from the egg sack. That doesn't make any sense if she is has life cycle like insects. They just conveniently put an egg on the ship just to continue the horror, but they didn't care about continuity.

Sorry, but there's no way to logically overcome bad scriptwriting with continuity errors. The fact remains that there is no possible way that an alien egg could've gotten aboard the Sulaco. The screenwriters pushed an illogical plot twist through just so they could make a sequel. The original idea for Alien 3 was closer to Starship Troopers with xenomorphs, but the special effects technology did not exist at the time to make it logistically feasible. So they settled on the Fury 161 storyline, although it made no sense whatsoever, and callously killed off Newt and Hicks, making everything that Ripley accomplished in Aliens a complete waste. It's just a bad, bad movie.

The queen laid 2 eggs in the landing gear area of the drop ship. Once everyone was in cryosleep, they hatched and made their way to the cryosleep area. I believe the queen face hugger went after Ripley, while the normal face hugger went after Newt. Since the queen face hugger is more powerful, and possibly smarter, it was able to gain access to Ripley using a drop or two of its acid blood to burn a hole in Ripley's cryosleep lid and then rip its way in to infect her. That would account for the time it would have taken for the queen face hugger to infect Ripley before the normal face hugger accidentally started a fire, and was ejected from the Sulaco in the escape pod with the people. The normal face hugger then rode down to Fury aboard the escape pod where it infected the dog. It's too bad Alien 3 is so poorly regarded. It had lots of potential. I think it would have been much better if Hicks had lived, and he had been the one to drop Ripley into the molten lead, and he had been the last man standing instead of a whack job prisoner. We could have gotten a love scene between Hicks and Ripley too.

No that's illogical. First of all, all colonists who got impregnated were attached to the resin walls unable to move, so why would Newt be any different? Also at the end of the second movie Newt got trapped in the resin and an egg was about to open and impregnate her, but Ripley arrived just in time to save her. There can't be another alien pregnancy if Newt was already carrying a queen. Last but not least, in Alien 3 they open Newt's chest and she wasn't carrying any alien

Simple narrative ellipsis. If you put a hen in a box, let it out later, and find an egg inside, one can reasonably guess what happened. The egg-laying xeno was on the Sulaco, later an egg was present; she must've lain it there. "But the queen can't lay eggs without her ovipositor." Yes, she can; Alien 3 (a canon story) told us so by showing us the egg. It is accepted screenwriting practice to create new rules, lucky breaks, and retroactive continuity elements that benefit the antagonist in order to maintain or increase difficulty and danger for the protagonist. "The queen didn't have time to get to the locker room and back." An unspecified amount of time passes between the moment that the dropship touches down and the moment that the characters exit it. Also, the compartment shown could be anywhere, including just below the hangar deck plating; we've no reason to believe that it is, indeed, the same locker room previously seen (within the narrative; obviously it is the same set). "Facehuggers can only lay one embryo apiece." Kane was in isolation when his parasite detached and it clearly lived long enough to climb into the overhead recess, probably dying right before dropping onto Ripley's shoulder, since she did nothing to dislodge it. It appears that a facehugger will die without a host or amniotic environment (original egg or stasis tube, e.g.), but there's no reason to believe that the creature is absolutely incapable of implanting more than one host. Any number of different events could have transpired between the glimpses offered in Alien 3's opening sequence. I consider it one of the film's strengths that Ripley is not so preoccupied with a complete explanation of what happened, as it would've bogged down the story. I'm quite happy with the stellar "We're fucked" montage and certain puzzle pieces being left to the imagination.
