With regards to the garden. A regenerative garden with 10" of straw will eliminate the need for water. The rain water as Abba Father provides is enough. This video has blessed me. Thank you for sharing.

AWESOME! The best DIY videos you have done so far. We survive on three food grade 55 gal drums for our in-house-water. We fill our 55 gal drums ~twice a week from a spring about 900-feet up the mountain. The pipe from the spring runs 24/7 in the winter to a dried creek bed so it does not freeze. In the summer we run the water pipe to a "Y" joint from the spring to our garden and house and use a "drip field timer" to water the garden. Great job folks! Thanks for sharing. 73 & God Bless

When I moved to my land I used a 55 gal blue barrel in my truck and a manual hand crank pump. Soon replaced by 12 v transfer pump. Then I bought a second barrel. I had a 40 gal tank in the camper so I was good. I was living in a brand new 2010 40 ft camper wv3 slides. Alot of space. I always had 8 gal jugs of water for backup. When power went out I would use my solar camp shower bag and heat water using a propane stove that was in the camper. I built an outdoor cedar shower stall. Took many many outdoor showers. In the summer, just put shower bag in the sun. I also had a 275 cube. I put at the edge of the awning and when it rained we would use a pool float to guide it into the tote. Used that water for the garden, cleaning my truck, my camper and my dog. I went 6 yrs without a well. I wanted a shallow off-grid well but I had to get a regular well in my county. I can always go back and add a manual pump handle. I was lucky. They hit water right away. Put casing in to 70ft, stopped at 110. Said he was stealing from me after that. My static water level is 6 ft. I'm spoiled now. County said i couldn't live like I was and mase me pull permits for well, septic and pull permit to turn my rough sawn shed unto a livable cabin. I wasn't allowed to live in my camper. Sad there are people who think they have a right control what everyone does. We haven't seen anything yet. Its coming.

To double the capacity at the pole barn, you could put a tote on all four corners and raise the gutter in the center to split the water to both corners on each side of the barn. One gutter could then fill two separate totes. So side A would fill totes 1 & 2 , and side B would fill totes 3 & 4. I love the system you have. I just wish some of the totes were elevated closer to the gutters to allow you to use gravity to move the water. Something to consider if you add more totes. A stand should be easy to do with a couple of 4x4's and some 2x6's. What do you think? Stay safe and God Bless!

My son had set up a 500 gallon tank that we have had a local water company deliver to when our first summer here the well went dry. So watching your video is helpful for figuring out what we can do in order to depend more on rainfall.

Great video. We also live off grid without a well. Our cistern is in the basement of the cabin. We don’t have a hot water heater, so we only have cold running water. For our shower we have a small pump with an RV filter. We put about 4 gallons of warm water in the tub and drop the intake in the tub. We can shower both of us in 4 gallons of water.

Fantastic! Thank you! I have a well, a rain catchment system, a spring, and a lake, so I always have plenty of water. I also have a vertical hydroponic growing system inside 2 huge heatable greenhouses, so I always have food. Anyone can have a permanently growing food crop this way, with very little work. The work involved in my system after planting is simply adding liquid fertilizer twice a year to the barrel of my automatic watering system, which is powered by solar. No other work is needed until after harvest, when the system is sterilized. I invented this system and it produces more food than any other similar system in the world, so of course it outgrows ANY system using acreage. Using this system, there is no need for acreage other than room for a very large greenhouse, of which I have two. I can feed my own family, my extended family, the neighborhood, a couple of food banks and sell microgreens to high end restaurants, all my simply using my noggin.

Any info on your systems that you'd care to share? I'm interested in off grid living in the suburbs on our lot. Can you explain more? And where did you get your liquid fertilizer that you use?

Jay, when Jen buys you a new TRACTOR for Father’s Day, you’ll be able to bury your tanks to avoid winter freeze up!?!?!? Great vid-Thanks for sharing…IAG, eh!!! 🇨🇦

Curious, I'm also in northern Michigan with off grid camp. Our area is pretty good for hand driven sand point wells. We just pounded one for a cousins camp. 24 foot, water tests great and with hand pump, pipe, deive couplers and sand point we were at just under $600. I too collect rain water, I think gardens thrive more on rain water than my 46 degree well water. Subbed and enjoying your content!

Good job! I collect rainwater as well. I have 2 - 275 gallon totes inside my outdoor laundry area. Not visible to anyone or anything. Emergency back up water. 1 tote on the barn for chicken. And 1 tote on another "she shed" wife makes soaps and candles..... for the raised garden beds for watering when the rain isn't sufficient.

I have seen so many videos that give different advice about filtering water and how to set if up. I would love to see one set up from start to finish.

Glad you two are off grid and thriving, and that you’re basically going to double your water with another 1100 gallons of storage! Since getting water in winter is a Frequently Asked Question, why don’t you put a link to the Winter Water video in the next Update? I’m impressed with your site, how many years have you two been working on it?

I think one inch of rain on a 400 square foot roof will give you almost 250 (249.35) gallons of water. One gallon = 231 cubic inches; one square foot (12 inches X 12 inches) with one inch of rain = 144 cubic inches; 144 cubic inches per sq. ft. X 400 sq. ft.= 57600 cubic inches; 57600 divided by 231 cubic inches per gallon = 249.35 gallons
