YOU MIGHT WANT TO BE AWARE OF THIS..... 1. It is ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS during the time of COVID to pay for a signature. in case you are not aware - The postman never gets a signature, even if your'e standing right in front of him - Australia posts' official position is ... We do not let customers touch the scanning terminals that the postman carry in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID 19 Now.. you can look at that as bullshit , as an excuse or as being valid I look at it as something in between in any case, every courier takes advantage of this and NEVER actually delivers as they are supposed to 2. Most couriers are full of shit and lie 3. on many an occasion have i had an ebay order on it's way and the online portal says DELIVERED and yet i don't have it THIS IS WHERE THE BULLSHIT STARTS There is always some person who is going to sound nice and say "we'll do an investigation" right ..... and then you may or may not hear from then in 3 days times or more you'll go through stupid questions like - Have you checked with your neighbours (well..... if you gave it to my neighbour you were not doing your job and IT'S ILLEGAL to deliver someone's mail to another person) - When they say they'll leave it in a safe place BASICALLY YOU'RE FUCKED. this means one of a few things - it could mean, they will leave it in front of your door WHERE THERE IS A PRETTY GOOD CHANCE SOMEONE WILL STEAL IT (Apparently some fuckwit seems to think that leaving it in front of the door visible from the street is safe) I don't know what planet he grew up on - sometimes they will attempt delivery BUT NEVER LEAVE A "sorry we missed you " tag. hence... How am i supposed to know it's at the post office ? - sometimes i go to the post office and give my details on a punt that it's there SHOULD I HAVE TO BE GUESSING ? fuck no.... this is not a treasure hunt , IT'S A DELIVERY Now.. the last time i did , my parcel was not found, it was discovered 3 weeks later that THEY GOT MY NAME WRONG apparently part of my surname was cut off on the shipping label (meaning... the name was truncated, not the label was cut) - sometimes the courier will say "I left it in the backyard" OK 2 problems with this 1. What the fuck are you doing in my back yard without permission 2. it's not a fucking treasure hunt couriers need to grow a brain SO YEAH... Nice video you packaged everything nicely , Now you know what i need to happen IT NEEDS TO BE DELIVERED and.... as stupid as this sounds and as simple as it sounds, somehow ...... It seems like an impossible task for Australia post Look..... i could pay a 10 year old $10 to deliver my parcel and get a signature LITERALLY , A FUCKING CHILD and i would have no question in my mind that the kid will do it Now... isn't it funny that when it becomes an adult courier I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO FAITH THAT MY PACKAGE WILL BE DELIVERED but hey.. that's how it is in the 70s and 80s australia post was flawless there was no question as to whether you would get your letter or parcel NOW... IT'S TURNED TO SHIT
I had my process down pat but watching this, I learnt how to import eBay orders into Business Post (rather than trying to make the CSV and Post spreadsheets line up - a near impossible task) and it was a revelation! No more typing individual addresses in and making mistakes picking the wrong street number or suburb (which I have done more than once). Thanks heaps.
Excellent video, definitely a long time coming!! Would love to see more videos of the processes like this behind the scenes that makes you guys so efficient, another quality video.
Kido thanks Mate, always herder to get the behind the scene processes I think as you just do them as quickly as you can. Glad we got this one together though hopefully it helps people work out what is going to work best for them 🙏
Congratulations guys...thats an un edited insight into your business..you are completely honest with your weights and measures and play by the rules of e bay and Aussie Post. You are obviously enjoying your business together and willing to help others....good on you
Thanks for the support, yea definitely like to ensure we do the right thing by eBay and Aus post it’s all factored into to our pricing and business model so no need to cut corners. We do love our eBay business and enjoy working together
For your packing it would be cool for you guys to get the ebay tape. By the way for your express orders, go to your post office and ask for a roll of express post tape. If the satchel doesn’t show its express poet you just tear a bit of express post tape off and put it on, this helps the workers know it’s express.
Miss J we don’t really use it but It’s just one of those branding things, I know in the states they can get it for free. The express tape however is used to identify those parcels that need to go on express but have been out in normal satchels (paying express pricing)
Miss J I would recommend opening a MyPostBusiness account as you can do everything online. Also when you lodge parcels and buy things from the post office they scan a QR code that is given to you when you open an account and you move up in bands eg Band0, Band1,Band2 etc When moving up in bands you get discounts on shipping
if you ask a post office sales attendant that you regularly post and grab a brand new cardboard mail width board they should give you one. I did recently and it has helped me so much. can i recommend an updated video would be ideal. If your large letter envelope doesnt glide straight through the b4 slot on the chart i was referring to, they will charge you the minimum $9.15. has to be 20mm or less and easily glide through, they are strict on that. i purchased some infinity figurines and macdonalds toys from salvos, being brand new to flipping and learning along the way. i learnt that those $2 figurines was going to instantly be minimum $9.15 small package!. yes bunnings is great for self packaging for free! and teach how to measure a box properly width, height etc. a tutorial on post office website too. :)
Absolute legends. I was stressing out about postage. As most people do when they start reselling. I have large awkward items like nerf guns etc. The thought of what to charge people for postage was so daunting cause I didn’t know if I’d end up screwing myself over. (Mostly when it comes to using your own box etc.). There’s not much information getting around in Australia, as most video resellers are in America. This was the biggest reason I hadn’t started yet. But watching you guys makes me feel more confident! I’m still worried about putting free postage on items etc. but I guess that will come with experience. Can I ask,, If you guys might have more information about what you would do on weekends when the post office is closed etc. As you pre-pay, and it marks you off as sent. Do you wait until the post office is open Monday. Or is there a bin you put items in? Thanks for the videos :)
Thanks Li, In relations to weekend post you are covered and don’t have to send to Monday. You definitely don’t have to offer free postage Infact as a new reseller I probably would advise to do it, it’s good to learn the ropes before committing to that.
Hey superstars, I just watched Mel's packing video too and great to see how it all works from myself as a english postman. When I saw DK get double/tripple wall thickness box and bubble galore it made me think wow, same I said to Mel, I would have just posted that in a simple box maybe just a few wraps of bubbles and even polymailer, as long as it survives a drop you should be good. Another thing is all this custom pre-paid stuff and set sized boxes/mailers that you have to purchase, nothing like that here in the UK, you do what you like but has be in Large Letter or Small Parcel sizing guidelines. Very interesting to see differences between us. Pricing can be a bit strange too, although a lot of our postage is under 7-8 AUD over here and Large Letters (20mm thick) is usually 1 - 2 AUD.
Dave Repairs thanks man yea Australian post prices are high unfortunately. The DK I wanted to make sure it got there in good condition being a collectors piece that sold for $280 and it didn’t cost any more than a poly bag as it was under 500g (weight class for own postage sizes. Thanks for the support 🙏
My process is very similar the only difference is the satchels I use are the Australia Post ones and whereabouts do you guys get your eBay labeled ones? is there any difference? Also Rural pricing sucks! Thanks for your expertise it has helped me greatly over the last 12 months.
Thanks Julian, We but the eBay satchels off of eBay, there is some links to them in description *these are affiliate links so if you click on them and bit we get a small % of the sale, otherwise you can just search eBay small satchel or ebay large satchel and the seller is australiapoststore
Great video 👍 Most of my weekly orders are in large satchels, I take them to the post office once packaged, it’s usually a selected post office as prices can vary. If they use cube it jumps up to $20-$25 per package. And if they use scale it stays around $12.70-$15. However using MyPost online prices are $25 each item. So I find it cheaper to go get it done at local post office with those selected branches who put it through at (scale) not (cube) Items are about 1.5kg 60cm x 45cm x 15cm Large postal satchels What’s your thoughts on this? I’m from SA too by the way 👍😁
Hey Reece I would definitely be looking into getting a my post business account, as it will save you long term. Especially if most of your parcels are standard Aus post sizing.
Thank you, very helpful. One questions though, if using eBay to print postage labels and you use the eBay flat rate satchels shown in the video do they come under the standard satchels? There is just nothing that specifies eBay packaging which makes it a bit confusing wether all eBay and normal flat rate satchels come under “(size) standard satchel”. They are both the exact same size and restrictions (5kg) just one has eBay branding and one doesn’t.
Dymo machine. Where do i get this from plus which model is this please? Thanks for the video. I have been doing differently which was more labour intensive, so i am happy find this video.
Cool channel guys, 1 question for you, on my Auspost Business account for a small prepaid satchel its cost of satchel + $8.95 to send parcel post, but your screenshot shows + $7.17, how do I get this pricing, is this due to your high volumes? Cheers :)
Hey Dale, thanks for the support, It takes a while to work through the different Banding of My post business we are currently on Band 5 and that participate one would have been going to a major city hence that price, of it is going to a regional location it would have been $8.50
Very organised! I like it 👌. I always forget that damn dangerous goods drop down as well, I’ve done my lollie over that a few times 😂😂. Great video legends very helpful 👌
Thanks Mate, it’s taken us a while to work out how to get around too much double handling and this has been working well for us for a while now, I always forget one of the section on My Post business lol 😂
I actually didn’t even know about transferring straight from eBay, I’ve just entered everything manually so you’ve just saved me a lot of time. Another froffie I owe you and a Matsos for jaz 🍻😂
I’d love to know more details about postage untracked for Aus post.... I’ve use the large letter untracked but I’d love to know how/costs to send parcels untracked
Thanks very much for sharing Brad and Jaz , good job, very informative video, keep up the good guys , you are both doing a fantastic job, thanks very much for sharing
Thanks for sharing and just asking. Whats the difference printing in the dymo or thermal printer and printing from the ePost website. The cost of buying the printer paper, isn't its more costly or not. Sorry do ask but I have been looking to buy the dymo or thermal printer. And I just learned that you can print shipping labels from the Australian post office web. I really appreciate your response.
Thanks for watching, I’ve never used the post website so I’m not sure the price difference there. Over time it works out cheaper to print with the dymo as you don’t pay for ink
I try to send everything tracked nowadays. People are getting desperate. Today I decided to risk it and posted something untracked and like two hours after I posted it they asked if they cancel because their “daughter pushed the button by mistake.” Like I haven’t heard that a million times. I told them I’d refund them when they send it back. I bet within a week they claim INR.
Regarding the length, width, and height, do you have any of that info on the selling page prior to a sale? Or do you not bother? I'm really confused as to whether I am supposed to measure it before packaging, or what I think it will be packaged in, or wait till after the sale and fully packaged. [Edit] Also, how do you know how many stamps go on each package? Do you ever buy prepaid satchels? Also, is the process different if you have an international buyer. AND why did you choose signature required? Isn't that something the buyer usually chooses in checkout? Thanks in advance if you answer, I'll soon be selling hundreds of items from a family member's collection so I'm doing all my preparation and research now.
It’s good to have an idea at the point of listing so you have any ideas of what postage will cost you or your buyer but it’s not crucial. As you enter the measurements on printing of label to pay
I use my thermal printer as well but mine customers details and the barcode seem quite a bit dark Auspost can’t scan it through do u know if I can set anything up to make it better?
Considering you receive discounts the more you sell and depending on the zone you're sending to, how do you know what postage amount to place on the item at the time of listing when you can't predict which zone the buyer will be? For example, on Band 5, posting 500g to Zone 1 is $5.58 but to Zone 3 is $8.84. What price do you put on the listing since any price I choose will be either undercharging or overcharging different buyers. Thanks so much if you can help with this.
Very true we personally do free shipping but if I was going to set a rate I would probably charge the full small rate as standard (for any small items) and so on
There are No dumb questions, you can either drop them off at the post office or on the post boxes ( if you drop off at post boxed they will miss the initial scan though.)
I get confused with using prepaid satchels, do i still need to type in the measurements and weight even if under 5kg? What are prepaid satchels called on ebay when selecting postage for an item? When purchasing bulk prepaid satchels most come without tracking?
Hey Laura, Thanks for the support here is a link to the one we buy (this one is a direct link from eBay not affiliate) www.ebay.com.au/itm/122267723797
If I have two orders from one person and combine them..should I put the items in one bag/box together and measure the total weight and size, or I should put them in two separate bags/boxes
Great instructional video guys. Getting on to Aus Post has been one of the best things ever, its easy to use, a lot of savings and the more you send the cheaper it can get! Btw, anyone can get up to band 3 at the moment - a nice promotion from Australia Post !
Matt's What I am thanks Matt yea awesome to get that head start straight Int band 3 and some nice saving to be had, definitely one of the better choices we made was to switch over to My Post Business
Thank you so much this was very helpful💕😊 I have opened my Etsy shop and have just sold my first item to Canada yesterday, I have dispatched it from post office Australia it took me $21, I have sold the item on Etsy for $22 and paid $21 for the shipping lol🥲 the item that I shipped was just a ring it’s not heavy at all. Just wondering if this approx. how much you pay for international orders?
Hi guys! Recently bought the dymo 4xl - great recommendation :) could you tell me what the right print size is? Trying to print a label bought off Auspost website and can't get it to match up right - it wants to print on half an A4
Thanks for the video guys, quick question, your fixed rate poly bags you use, do you have to pay for them with the my post business or do you pay for them in every sale? If not what do you guys pay for them per 10, 100, 1000? I see alot of people just using plane blank ploy bags as well as myself. PROS and CONS? Thank again keep up the good work.
Thanks for the support, we but them dc eBay I think it is like $15 for $100 I’m sure there are slightly cheaper options out there for plain mailers but I like the look of the eBay one 🙏
Thanks for the support man, We just order them through eBay, there is a link in description (affiliate though) so you can use that or search eBay small satchel and the seller is australiapoststore
Hi thanks for this video I'm just getting started with selling and this was super helpful. Could you give me some info on the dymo that you're using? (Where to get, how much for machine and paper) I'm just going to start with padded mailers and DVDs but the label printing might come in handy later. Thanks!
Hey Rachel awesome to hear your getting into it, the dymo is The Dymo 4XL From memory it was about $270 and labels work out pretty cheap about $60 per 1000
if its your own packaging its still up to 5kgs no need to measure as i am doing it wrong lol at my post office as they bypass that and go by weight and postcode
Hey guys love your channel! I have a few questions about the shipping i see you are using the flat rate satchels are you sending them international or within AUS? just wanting to know if you are getting a good price we have a small business selling our own moisturizers and we send nothing over 500g but cant seem to find a decent pricing international is a rip in shipping fees. also i don't quite get the printed labels is that just a faster way of filling out the information instead of hand writing it on the satchel itself? i know you need that for amazon if your doing FBA but if your just doing a FBM do you still need those labels? sorry if these questions seem stupid iv been searching the internet for hours and seem to be getting nowhere if you could answer these questions i would greatly appreciate it! thank you
Thanks mate, We don’t do Amazon so I’m not too sure on there system but yes this is quicker than hand writing each label and then going on and paying for postage as it is all done online. There are flat rate satchels for overseas but yea they are expensive
Love watching all the different processes. My Irish system is soooo different, I cannot roll up or double fold clothing like that, for me its the flatter, the cheaper. So if I pack an item as flat as possible, I can more that halve the postage cost for myself. I so wish the Irish post site allowed us to process and pay for orders together, I have to enter addresses manually, and pay for each transaction one by one!
Oh wow yea that is super different to Aus set up, def feel for you having to enter and pay for each prefer individually ☹️, hope you get an upgrade soon would make your life so much easier, always interesting to hear how all the eBay’s are slightly different set up
@@2AussieThrifters thanks for the reply, ive been doing some research and have seen how much easier it is to just get a Dymo 4xl, so just ordered one :)
Hello mate, Can you make a video on how to set up a business policy here in Australia? PS is there still PayPal in eBay AU? coz I'm just starting my eBay journey here in AU thanks a lot hope we will have a fruitful success :)
Hey thanks for video. So you are allowed to use any cardboard boxes for shipping? As for the light item packages, do you buy them from Aus post? (and sorry if this a dumb question haha) thanks!
Yea absolutely if they are Aus post boxes then they have set prices for these but you can also use any boxes as long as you enter the weight and measurements correctly
@@2AussieThrifters Thanks for replying. In terms of shipping, how long after the orders do you normally send the item? (starting from scratch here) :D cheers.
Great vid guys only thing I would like to add I know everyone has there own way to send media for the peeps that like to track media that game would have cost an additional 60 cents to send with tracking, Just saying. 😀
Ken Skeats thanks Ken yea each time their own on tracking those media items, over $20 we track but under we are willing to take the risk, yet to have an issue yet touch wood lol 😂
Hi guys, do you mean the one with stamps on it, how do you add the tracking for that? And is it only .60 for tracking? I’m new to buying/selling. Thanks :)
@@nickhoughton9384 No this was in reference to the AusPost C5 Domestic Letter with Tracking they are $4.95 less if purchased in bulk direct from AusPost
I have a question about packing in general, not for ebay though, can we use any bag/box? Aus rules are so extreme and expensive with packaging, I don't want to have to up my price just to buy one of their expensive package bags since the shipping is high enough. If i were to find plain packages/pouches and print the address myself would that work?
Thanks so much for this! I am also just starting an eBay store! So much to learn and read ... may I ask you what’s your opinion on how to save the postage as a seller? Thanks very much !
@@2AussieThrifters thanks so much for your time! Very generous and kind of you replying every one! I have just subscribed your channel! Can I ask one more question please, if I am purchasing the small, medium and large sizes of the eBay flat rate satchels bags, is it a “must” to pay the flat rate within Australia accordingly to the sizes as suggested on the mypost web site regardless the weight? I hope my question is clear enough for you to understand! Thanks again and much appreciated!
@@Bobbynbobbie no worries at all, all the satchels have a 5kg limit so as long as it fits in the satchels and is under 5kg you can ship it. And then you just pay the relevant rate based on size
@@2AussieThrifters it’s a shame as I am selling teas and herbs that occupied so much space of the satchel! Thank you once again! You two are very kind! Enjoy Australia Day tomorrow! Blessings to your two!
Hi! Loved your video but I just wanted to ask 2 questions, Do you have to buy a label printer or can you use a normal printer? How do you know what to charge for shipping?
Hi, No you don’t have to buy a label printer, you can use a normal printer. Best way to learn postage costs is too check out the Aus post shipping rate table and work out what item you are trying to send. Most items that are small and under 5kg would go in a small, medium or large satchel which is great as that is a set price (can vary slightly by region if your using my post business)
I'm wondering when you moved to this process? Was it gradual as your business grew? I've ramped mine up a lot recently, and I'm already struggling with my whole set up from inventory to packaging etc! Do you think I need to go full pro at be all set up like you guys now or is it a matter of finding my feet as I go?
We have printed labels either from printer and more recently dymo for quite a while ago, you don’t need a fancy printer though to use my post business just a standard black and white will do the job. It’s definitely worth look at my post business as it is a big $ save once you start getting up in the bands
@@2AussieThrifters Thanks for the reply guys! Currently I print the labels directly through eBay with all the postage worked out etc - and if I have 4 I print them on matte sticker paper so I can just stick them down and then I cover in contact to make them waterproof. It's my packing process I think I need to work on. I do everything from print to pack for one all at once and then move onto the next. I also print the labels before packing. Thanks for the pointers - great video! :)
Just wondering how much the Gamecube game cost all up to send. Just got a bulk lot of DVDs to sell - probably a big mistake, but I want the postage to be the cheapest possible, assuming they sell at all, lol, and they would post for the same as the game did I guess. Cheers.
Hi Guys, so if I have something to post in a box I could get my own box and take to PO they would put stamps on would it be around the same price as you came up with?
Hi, there are a handful of selling platforms available to Australia like Depop, Poshmark, Etsy and a lot of people also create their own websites to sell from. We personally use eBay to take advantage of the traffic they already have to their site and the integration with MyPost Business. Wishing you luck with your new venture!
Hi I have just signed up to My Post with Aus Post but haven't actually used it yet ... can you clear up something first please ? If you charge your customer postage say $9.15 as per eBay calculations when you do your listing initially, the customer pays eBay right when they purchase the item? then do eBay pay you ALL that $9.15 ( or do they take commission first on postage ) and then they pay you by managed payments ? So does the managed payment include the postage back so you can pay Australia Post through the My Post business account ? or are you printing an Ebay label ?? I'm confused cause you get a discount from My Post but the customer is paying Ebay to cover the postage then who pays Australia Post ? can you clarify ?
eBay will pass on the full amount to you including postage minus any fees etc then you pay my post business therefore you could be making some money on the postage also
Silly question but when I launch my business I don’t think I’ll have an extreme amount of sales. Can I just write the address on my bubble mailer/box, or do I have to have it as a printed label?
@@hollyallen8205 I'm guessing you have figured this out in the 8 months since your post, but you can actually get tracking on your own packaging. They'll pop a sticker or printed label on for you. 👍🏽
Hey Jacqueline, thanks for the support , we did this one a little while ago on international ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0Io19JiY0XA.html
@@2AussieThrifters Just researching as to whether I am going to start selling. If I am to do so, what will I actually choose as my focus range to sell. You guys seem to go for clothing, shoes and electronics mainly. I started out with the idea of going glass, china and collectables. Now, watching this video, I am thinking maybe I need to re-think Lol! 😊
Australia Post is exactly why ill never make another purchase from an eBay seller based in Australia. Have a parcel SITTING at AP for nearly 16 days and hasn’t even left the facility. That’s absolutely pathetic! Seems to be extremely commonplace that AP provides horrendous service
Thanks guys, nice and automated good work. I am looking for a label printer like yours, can you give some links to the one you have and the labels? Cheers, (sub and thumbs up from me :))
