My wife and me had a Celtic Rambler 5th Wheel made in North Wales. One of our first trips was to the Lake District where we had arranges a pitch at a rather remote Inn for two weeks. When we arrive we found the Inn closed but the gate to the adjacent field was open. We set up the Rambler, the power point was was working but had a restrictor limiting the amp’s available, enough to power the lights and TV but not enough for small electric heater we had brought with us. Night fell and still no one was around. at about seven in the evening we had a caller, a member of staff from the Inn who told us that a sudden bereavement had caused the owner and his wife to close the Inn and join their family in Newcastle for a few days and that she lived a few miles down the road and would call in again tomorrow. That night we were expecting moderate winds and a light dusting of snow, however by about three in the morning the wind was howling and the snow was already forming drifts. Fortunately we had two large Gas canisters and a third in the storage compartment. The Rambler had underfloor heating and blower vents in all areas, therefor we were snug and warm all night. The following morning the snow was nearly up to our knees and had drifted to at least three feet deep against the Rambler and surrounding walls. We decided that it would be dangerous to venture out into near blizzard conditions and settled down to a good breakfast. The wind was gusting so hard that the Rambler, which unlike those in the US is very sturdy and heavy but even it shuddered from time to time. By the afternoon the snow was well above knee level and a drift had completely covered the boundary wall and gate, we here going no where. I had to clear the satellite dish of snow before we could get the TV working. The whole area was under thick snow and even tractors couldn’t reach some villages. The temp ritter had fallen to 4* centigrade and stayed there for a further three days before rising above freezing by mid week. Eventually a snow ploughing cleared the road and the driver kindly cleared a path from the road to our van and allowed us to get to the shops in town, about five miles away. I have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed those few days, warm, safe and sound in our Rambler. The Landlord and his wife returned the following day and invited us to dinner that evening. We have returned to the same pitch several times since then but have never had the same weather since.

My wife and 4 dogs took our fifthweel to the Crand Canyon then down to Sedona and off the see the meteor crater towards Arizona. We hadn't planned for snow and got there with snow all over the ground.... we never thought about the water freezing in the pipes!!! LOL. LIVE AND LEARN. BEWARE!! LOL

🤷🏽‍♀️ Why don't you have any skirting around your Rv??
@nathanshiannetinsley5723
@nathanshiannetinsley5723 Год назад
This is a good question, in my experience (6 winters in Maine) you do not need it at all, IF you have a true 4 season fifth wheel or Motorhome. Note, we own a Mobile Suites which is over insulated compared to traditional fifth wheels. What you own will determine the skirting needs or not.

@@nathanshiannetinsley5723 🤷🏽‍♀️ Have you considered the ideal or what I was telling you about Dampit for the build-up moisture inside your home and windows, especially RVs to keep the humidity down which can cause wood rot and mold in your RV?

I see you keep your awning out a bit over your small dresser slide, great idea ever had any trouble doing that? With wind and stuff ?
@nathanshiannetinsley5723
@nathanshiannetinsley5723 Год назад
Hey yes it’s seemed to offer a bit of extra protection for the entry and the slide out as that’s the one slide out that doesn’t have a dedicated awning cover. Actually, we get horrible wind here but with the awning in to within a few feet or so of the Rv it doesn’t seem to be affected at all. So it’s a win win

Just stumbled across this video. I’ve been looking at the insulation advantages of the DRV. Have you owned other rv’s in the past you could compare it to and how well it help up in the Maine winter? Thanks from Montana

Hello, so I previously owned a class A Diesel and I can attest to the massive advantage with the Mobile Suites product. The insulation advantage which is directly linked to the build quality, can’t be fully appreciated until you are surviving negative 8 degree temps like it’s 60 outside. I’d also make a note on how wonderful double pane windows are. Lastly, I spoke recently with another Mainer who didn’t have the advantage of the mobile suites product and didn’t have as an enjoyable time in his Rv and it wasn’t even winter when he was using it, based on the conversation.

why dont u tow the trailer to arizona and winter there? isnt that the whole idea of rv life?
@nathanshiannetinsley5723

LOL it used to be, and for some it probably is, but with the current economic climate that includes rising costs, inflation and interest rate hikes, most folks can no longer afford a decent home. Maine has government controlled markets where you have to look and sound like a Mainer and be born here to even have a dinky business that actually turns tourist off. The state government loves this because they are the real bigots. They want the poor to be poorer. They can’t imagine, business, growth and innovation cutting down a few trees to add good middle class jobs to pint up demand for homes. Instead you have a housing market super inflated driving out more young people and turning the state into a Medicare state. If it weren’t for the internet and healthcare, Maine would be a national park. Yes, we can actually afford a home and plan to move into one soon. But more young people will be living stationary in rv’s going forward. They are the new “trailer”.

@@nathanshiannetinsley5723 so if its so ugly there then why are u still there, if u can afford a house there then you can afford to move away. dont think u wd want to live there if thats what u think of it.

@@Lauren-vd4qe I’m sure you didn’t need to hear me rant, sorry! I love the state and think others would too. I don’t blame the people just the government. Sometimes people vote for their governments because they are ill informed. I’m here because of a calling and love for the people. The difference is the places I’ve been and experiences I’ve had help inform my perspective, many here have rarely if ever left the state. But again, you didn’t need my thoughts lol sorry!

Hello, which heated water hose are you using?

@nathanshiannetinsley5723 Год назад
Hello, I’m not sure at the moment what brand but it’s a 100ft hose. At the time, it was the cheapest one lol and I think I’m headed into my 4th or 5th season with it, without any issues whatsoever.
