By far the worst experience we’ve had living in our truck camper…
Yes, we love the beauty of camping in the winter, but when we unexpectedly get 3x the amount of snow and are unable to leave the campground, fun turns into fear. Join us as we realize just how unprepared we are for winter.

Hey guys, glad you stayed safe! During cold weather camping, you should get a second LP tank and attach it to the roof ladder. I have seen many do this and it is a great backup. In warmer weather just don't refill the extra lp tank.

Hopefully you learned your lesson on what tires you should have in winter months in Colorado. Also a winch is never a bad idea for what you guys are doing out in the woods. This could have been a lot worse learn from it and be more prepared. Looking forward to more adventures.

I’ve had Lance campers, travel trailers and been in the snow, mud and cold, had dead batteries, run outta propane etc…. Buy 4 V-Bar chains, 30’ 30k tow strap, a Little buddy propane heater and save your camper batteries and propane. Buy a quick jump starter and carry a 3000w generator, gas and a pancake air compressor. You have to be totally self sufficient and can’t rely on anyone but yourselves. And carry bear spray when you are in bear country, especially when you go for a walk. Looks like you had a nice adventure. Enjoy it!

I was about to say the same thing. Cold dry conditions are way better. They should have tried in the morning. When it gets above freezing, it's slimy. Multiple times they said they would wait for it to warm up. That's the opposite of experience shows. Ahh. I want to teach youngsters things like this.

A good rule for camping in Colorado in the months that have a "R" in them remember to have tire chains it can snow as early as September and as late as April, plus having full or a extra propane tank you never know safe travels.

CONGRATULATIONS...you survived AND learned alot about cold weather / snow camping!! And, perhaps without realizing it, you learned alot about each other. You both seem to get along and I sense that continues "OFF CAMERA" as well! We camped in the same size Lance you have for many years and as we watched your video, we discussed what would would have done differently regarding staying warm!! Using your furnance will definately keep your rig warm, but based upon our experiences, and perhaps yours, it REALLY uses up your LP.. Here's a couple hints to consider re: getting more from your LP supply: 1. leave the oven pilot lite on, with the door open 2. find a clay pot, the size commonly used for house plants, and place it ocer one of your cooktop burners and lite the burner. IT will get very, VERY hot but it will radiate heat for many hours as it cools down. OBVIOUSLY, this can be a dangerous heat source and should be used with care nad only will you are awake. 3. in the morning, use the heat from preparing your tea, food, etc. to heat the inside. Consider getting a roll of "reflective insulation" (Home Depot) cut it to fit all windows and then pull your shades down. That will not only keep some cold out, but in the summertime, it'll keep the inside of you rig much cooler on very hot days. That's it for now....Keep Exploring and Having Fun!!

Great job and video! Can you guys buy another propane tank and have it filled up as a spare? You could just set it inside your camper while you are traveling. Amazon sells a plastic base that the tank can temporarily sit in so it doesn't fall over when traveling. I use mine when I detach my propane tanks from the trailer and drive to the fill up place. Just a thought for emergencies...and maybe a few dehydrated backpacking meals for backup too. 😉 Keep up the awesome videos!!

Good thing it wasn’t a real blizzard or you may have had an entirely different experience. We have about your same setup with a ford f350 and an older lace. We added a low watt roof heater/air conditioner that we can run on a small generator because we got caught in a blizzard in Montana and couldn’t move for a week, the propane and wet heat and below zero temps wasn’t ideal. One gallon of fuel heats our camper for 15 hours of nice dry heat, no frozen windows. Love our Lance. We also have chains for the truck now. That blizzard taught us some valuable lessons in winter camper camping. We ended up digging out with a medal plate and a serving spoon, one of our sons “used the shovel” and didn’t put it back. It was an adventure of slip and sliding with nerve wracking stress! Lol
