What verification process do you use at your work to make sure is them? Is there a secret password or a question that you would ask? Something like, "What is your favorite color?".
Thank you very much for the interesting AD video. I have one comment about the service account. Microsoft recommends using Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA). These have the advantage that the password is managed by Windows and is quite long and you can define the rhythm in which the password should be changed. There are two problems with an AD account as a service user: 1. the password for an AD account is rather insecure (usually only a few characters long). 2. if the password of the AD account is changed, the password must be changed everywhere where the AD account is used as a service user. This is not necessary with a gMSA. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks! Yes that is correct!! That's a better way to manage them. I'm probably gonna make another video about that on the hands-on activity portion of the series
Can you make video on Linxu admininstration as well and do most office use window server with GUI ?? I hear most uses core or with no GUI Can you add more above active directory
I'm sorry but I'm not a Linux admin yet. Hhhmmm maybe depending on the company but all the previous companies I've worked for uses GUI. I do have more videos on AD homelab and issues
Congrats on passing and I'm sorry to hear that. The job market has been crazy lately and IT has been competitive too. Just keep applying and connecting with people in the industry and make sure your resume has the keywords recruiters are looking for
Hello! You're welcome!! Yes you can check in Microsoft Evaluation Center. Here's the link: www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/download-windows-server-2022
Hello! I’ve been watching your videos and love what you do. I just completed my first semester of BSc IT and was wondering if you could give me a roadmap/suggestions to get to your stream (e.g certifications) of work since IT is so vast. Many thanks xx
I love how straight to point and easy to understand your content is. I'm starting my first IT job soon so these videos are very helpful. Keep up the great work! Thank you!
Nice informative video East Charmer on Active Directory.is AD the same as the ticketing system? And if so do you have a video trouble shooting tickets?
Thank you!! Hhmm AD is not ticketing. It's more of a management tool for user accounts and devices in the Windows environment. Yes I actually have a ticketing playlist on the channel where I troubleshoot issues
@@EastCharmer oh,that’s good to know.i learn something new through you😀but you know I took the 1102 core 2 exam and they gave me ticketing performance base questions .I understood what they were saying one of the imaginary user was telling me he could not read his emails.i found out he was connected to the wrong port number .it was suppose to be port 143 imap and I close the ticket.i don’t know if I was supposed to educate the user I think I might of got it wrong.but I wound up falling the exam.comptia fail me on stuff I study and knew what they are, like using the cmd command line,I just don’t get it.but l’ll check out your video on the ticketing systems once again thank you East charmer.
Ang sys admin mostly setup ng systems and managing ng systems like configuration, licensing, monitoring, troubleshooting. Yung Network Engineer focused sa network talaga like building network infrastructure, setting up devices etc
Hi, ma'am just asking. We now have the Windows Server 2008 active directory with DHCP in use. then we need to upgrade to Windows Server 2022. what is the 1st step we need to do to gradually move the clients.
Seems simple to learn I appreciate you allowing us to see you in action. Companies require this experience prior as if it is impossible to learn quick on the job. Recently git my security+ certification and 9 years in telecommunications still can't get an entry level opportunity 😢
The market is tough right now :( it's also competitive and a lot of companies are not hiring yet. Yes Active Directory is one of the main requirements for IT Support. Just keep applying and keep working on your skills. You'll get there!!!
sigma work on your resume and make sure its a pass for the ATS filters .... i just found out about the ATS .... above all definetly add a cover letter ..... let me know if you did all that and still not landing an interview ......
Thank you so much. I like this type of practical videos. Can you make a video on how to add wifi certificate to the joined laptops or please. I really need this video.
I guess when you set up a New password/Confirm Password for a User, and tick option "User must change password at next logon" you need to provide that password to a user before he/she can change it , right?
Hello musta? It is still very much in-demand pero mas competitive na ngayon compared to 5 years ago. I won't say it's easy getting a tech job but if you have the skills, it's doable
one question : do you think one should have a solid understanding of a ticketing system to land an IT SUPPORT job ... if so, which one is used in the industry .....
Atleast familiarity on how it works and how to manage tickets. Usually you'll get trained at work because companies have different policies and SLAs for tickets. Just knoe best practices like you should assign the ticket to yourself if you're working on it. Respond to the requestor that you acknowledge the ticket. Tickets are also used for documentation purposes so for new issues, you should document the resolution for future references. The most popular ones are service now, jira and fresh service.
Is Active Directory and Microsoft 365 always used together. I’ve learned some AD but can’t find any developer free trial for 365. Did some research and seems the took the e5 trial out.
This is great! I'm in the process of printing an ITX case and gonna use it with some spare hardware for Win22 Server stuff. These AD videos will come in handy ty \o/
This is operation layer all behinds the DNS , F.S.M.O roles control it is the key and the extend feature to MS Extra ID it also the key of MS service behinds it related
Noooooo, sobrang galing nyo po hahahahaha. Nung first time ko mapanuod mga videos nyo it was very impressive po na working kayo as IT outside the Philippines. And, It actually helps me a lot as I am working as an IT din sa Philippines and client namin is from the America din.
These videos are much better than the IT diploma course which I did. Assessments given were lengthy Theoretical questions answers. There was zero practical knowledge. I am learning a lot through watching these videos. Appreciate your hard work @EastCharmer
Yes that's the problem with a lot of courses even when I went to school. I mean you have to know fundamentals and theory but it's really lacking with practical skills and application. Hopefully I can put together a course that covers all the practical skills you need. Thank you and I really appreciate your comment!!
Is it really required for us to purchase Client Accese Licenses (CAL) if we are implementing Active Directory? Our organization currently have 120+ computers which needs to connect to the server mainly for the purpose of the daily operations using the locally hosted information system. Thanks
My personal opinion - Lots of things should be covered earlier before starting the installation session - 1. IDA infrastructure by Microsoft. 2. Concept of Domain, Tree, forest, global catalog. 3. Concept of security principles, inheritance, ACLs in Microsoft. 4. Services related to active directory. 5. How the server and client interacts and the underlying networking Concept of it. 6. A brief about ntds.dit and sysvol. 7. Concept of name resolution and WINS + DNS. THERE ARE LOT MORE LEFT... My sugession is - Check the active directory global exam prep book released by Microsoft, Books written by MARK MINASI & AD COOKBOOK. This is entirely my personal openion. You can check it or drop it...
Thanks for all of that but my channel only covers real world IT practice and home lab projects. there's already so many experts who have already covered that and will probably do it better than me and yeah as you mentioned there's already resources for that.
@matthewd84 Yes there will be windows server might add in linux server. And I'm also making an entire course for all IT essential skills like networking, server, OS, cloud, security and soft skills
Thanks for these videos. I'm in helpdesk but the company uses a different cloud Ad system so I don't have exposure to the default AD. Also really enjoy the practical videos! I understand the what , but sometimes need to see the how, for it to click.
You're welcome!! Ah I see, we also use that version too but it's good to know how to build AD from scratch and all the other Windows features. More videos to come!! Glad you liked them!!
I'm actually labbing this at home now. Group Policy is kicking my ass though! And the instructor told me to join a new server to a domain but they're on two different virtual machines and the server can't find the domain I created! I'm using Hyper-V.
To get your device to join the AD server you need to make sure your AD has a static IP address. Then on the device you are trying to join you need to go to Network and Sharing center, click your ethernet adapter and go to IPV4 then properties. Change DNS to static and input the AD servers IP address in the first field for DNS.
@@thepokemondusknoir Yes, I set all of that up. That was on the first VM. The instructor said to create a second VM, name it, gave us the static IP to give it, the dns address to give it, but said don't assign a default gateway cause we weren't trying to get out to the internet, then join the new server to the domain on the other VM.
@@matthewd84 that’s just based of my experience because I just recently created an AD server and joined a windows 10 workstation to it and today I did my GPUpdates and mapped a network drive for shared used.
@@thepokemondusknoir AD has static, 192.168.1.250, dns same, second server IP is .251, dns is .250, so it's the same as the AD domain IP. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
OMG!!! This is a treasure. Thank you for doing this and I am glad I found your channel. I will be here every single week. I am just getting to my PC tech support job and this is just amazing for me now.🤟
cute theoretical classroom example but Obviously doesn't look like anything used in big companies for security purposes hardly ANYONE works directly in the ADUC interface but have all kinds of front end software that manages AD.
This is how we've been using AD at work and where I previously work and I work at a big company🤷♀️🤷♀️ so this isn't theoretical 🤷♀️ you can install AD tools directly on a computer that looks exactly like in the server
@@EastCharmer yeah, cute. Now try using AD for 150,000 users. This doesnt work. No fortune500 company manages AD this way, especially not manually . But yes for smaller environments maybe
@user-ym7ss6xb3j AD is AD whatever other front end you use. And it's a different story for that many users. I work in a fortune500 company and we use AD tools. Where do you work? And why have this attitude like you have nothing else better to do in life?
@@EastCharmer "AD is AD" huh?! thats not the part im criticizing did i? Im Microsoft Certified in everything infrastructure, including AD. Yes we work with over 150K users and even more computers and servers. This tool works but is obviously not suitable to keep consistency of your AD-data and control thousands of admins and servicedesk personnel. Your example doesnt even show AD-forests and Trusts, thats why i said "its a cute class room example"
@user-ym7ss6xb3j well yeah coz I've used my homelab as example as simulate what I can. I can't show our actual AD for obvious reasons. I'm showing how we use it at work and this is how we are using it. This video is for beginners learning how to navigate through AD. I am not showing any infrastructure level stuff. Just how to operate it for daily task. Idk how hard that is to understand. And you calling it a classroom example when I'm showing how we use it at work on a daily basis and we use ADUC. Companies still use it. If you have complaints with that then it's not my problem and take it to who built our system
