The only Godzilla movie I've ever seen is Shin Godzilla but I think Yidaro fits pretty well. The whole thing with Shin Godzilla is how there's a ton of advance warning that he's coming but nobody does anything about it until it's too late, so I think an ability that's reminiscent of the Infernal Spawn of Evil "He's coming!" thing where you repeatedly let your opponent know he's getting closer is neat and suitable.
It's crazy the amount of effort that went into animating Biollante in film, her tendrils were controlled by wires suspended from the ceiling and it took about 20 people to operate her. That's my bit of godzilla trivia. Shame she didn't get a more flavorful card :(
2:10 I'm here to defend Yidaro as Shin Godzilla. Does our big guy pop out of the sea as the fully-fledged lizard we know and love? No. He takes time to build up, same as Yidaro taking a few Cycles to emerge as the big Hastey Trampler. Additionally, although Cycling doesn't strictly have consistent flavour, the act of discarding and drawing has been flavoured as adapting your plans to sudden and unexpected situations (especially in Ikoria). So although Yidaro himself isnt adapting like Shin G, you the player are.
It's interesting that all of these cards weren't designed to be the specific characters, but still did a pretty job lining them up. When they actually make the card from the bottom up they've been doing even better.
I actually play Ghidorah as my commander in my favorite EDH deck and the way I have interpreted his special ability when he mutates he's essentially that scene from King of the Monsters where he roars on top of the volcano and wakes up all the other Titans, rising them from the deck where they were sleeping. That deck also runs attack doublers/damage triplers to make Ghidorah absolutely MASSIVE. Biggest I've gotten him without much/too much effort was around 26,000 power (and then had it fight Brash Taunter, whose damage got x9 then x9 for a total of around 2,106,000 damage) Also, while this somewhat requires a specific deck build, if you put Gigan as the commander and a deck full even CMC clones, you can relatively easily recreate that Godzilla Gigan short that came out last year where it was essentially a mass produced monster that overwhelms
I watched that weird trilogy with the space dwarves and space elves. I get the reference! Also Singular Point Jet Jaguar is a shining beacon of light in a hopeless void and I want a card of him.
Very happy to see this. Ikoria's Godzilla crossovers got one of my friends back into the game is how good an idea it was. Also 100% agree on Shin Godzilla. I saw it in theaters and it was a religious experience.
Primeval Champion's ability to empower another creature is sorta accurate, mostly just going off the end of Destroyah where all the radiation empowers Godzilla Jr to become the new Godzilla. It would be cool if it was Burning Godzilla instead of generic, but it's still in that era.
4:25 Those movies are actually one of the few things I've watched of Godzilla. It's that, Godzilla 1998, the Legendary films, Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Singularity Point.
Funny how you show Godzilla Doom Inevitable, a card that has nothing to do with its film counterpart, and follow it up with Anguirus Armored Killer, a card whose mutate ability really belongs on Doom Inevitable.
I’m a huge fan of the Heisei series so I’m bummed they didn’t have Legendary versions of Mothra, MechaGodzilla, and Destoroyah. I would’ve loved to have made a Commander deck for each movie in the series
There are a couple of cards in ikoria that definitely made me go "why is this card NOT ____ kaiju?" Archipelagore = Ebirah Gemstone Recluse = Kumonga Umori = hedorah
0:34 that's heisei Godzilla and is closer than primeval champion when it comes to suit accuracy 2:35 Anguirusaurus killer of the living a title used for him in gigantis the fire monster. And reedit of Godzilla raids again 4:00 the ghidroah wings look like those of toho designs and the heads look like showa ones without a mane and we have dorats in the game so probably its heisei 6:22 literally a stylized version of the final wars design which you show in the video so not sure how its weird 8:23 in reference to a stellar corona or the outermost layer of a star's atmosphere
Random question: Do you plan on making a video about Phyrexia and phyrexians lore? Other people dont explain it nearly as simple or nearly as hilarious as you
You sure that king of the monsters Godzilla from the 70s? Looks more like the original Godzilla or even the newer one In king of the monsters (3rd black and white movie) shares the name of the card too.
Hey. Not really but I've been before. I'm not a huge fan of seafood. I decided the channel was getting to a big enough point that I wanted to have my own branding that I actually owned
