I doubt Hyundai would have gone through the trouble to add the DRVM for just one model year only to drop it in 2025. Besides, the DRVM has great utility regardless of whether or not you have a rear wiper.

It would be a shame to eliminate the digital rear view mirror in the 2025 model. I LOVE mine, and have to disagree with you! Yes, it takes a bit of getting used to, because our eyes have been conditioned for years to seeing closer, narrower distances behind us in a mirror. Believe me, after just a short time, your eyes become thoroughly reconditioned to the farther, wider distances. I am so completely used to mine now that I wouldn't bother using a rear window washer even if I had one! IMHO, every EV should have one.

I feel like Hyundai is very behind on digital technology. Their HUD is one of the worst I’ve experienced. Coming from a BMW the ioniq’s HUD looks blurry/out of focus and if you move your head a bit to the side it goes extremely hazy quickly. Also it’s barely viewable in the daytime.

My 2024 I5 Limited and I have been together a month, and I absolutely LOVE the DRVM for its field of view, lack of obstructions (headrests, pillars, rain on the rear window), and excellent clarity. Won’t ever go back to standard rvm, and can’t imagine they would take it away in future models at this trim level. It really should be in every new car.

Anyone who wears reading glasses or bifocals will have a real challenge focusing on a close up display above their head. This isn't a matter of developing a skill or "getting used to it". If you're beyond a certain age, you won't be able to focus at the world through the windshield then transition to the rear view display at that distance. I can't think of a solution to this.

Only complaints I’ve got with the digital rear view are minor/nitpicky: 1) If it it really bright (moonroof open), and there are bright items in the rear seat, those items can make it gated to focus on the screen rather than the mirror which I’ve got aimed down at the seat (I aim the mirror at the seat so the screen is a better angle for me and so that headlights from behind don’t make it to my eyes). So the general complaint is that the mirror is still there even when using the screen, and in a few edge cases it can be annoying. 2) Since the camera will auto pan up/down the camera view isn’t always in the same place so telling how close the car behind is following isn’t as easy to tell as it was with a fixed mirror. But if I can’t see the following cars headlights they are generally closer than I’d like them to be. I mostly notice the auto panning of the display opening/closing the garage door. Not sure if there is a way to turn that feature off or not.

I have a 2024 Limited with the Digital Rear Mirror. I wear glasses while driving. Glancing up at the actual mirror, no issues. However, when glancing up at the DRVM it takes a bit of time for my eyes to adjust and to be able to see/comprehend what is going on behind. Also, it takes some time to get over the feeling you're about to be rearended when people roll up behind you. I would rather have a rear wiper. Just my take after using the DRVM for awhile.

The Lyriq has this and I tried it on a test drive. I personally had trouble as an older driver and focusing as my near sight is not as good as it used to be.

I got a 2024 because I didn't want a windshield wiper waited for a digital rear view mirror. I live in the southeast, and we don't get snow. I love the clean look. I'm very happy with no wiper. Put ceramic wax on the rear window, and the whole car rain falls right off.

First thing I added to my 2022 was a digital mirror dash cam. Will add one to all future cars that do not have a digital mirror.

Our 2020 Chevy Bolt has the digital mirror. I seriously miss it on the Ioniq 5. I'd love to see this able to be retrofitted on our 2022 Ioniq 5. It's a huge safety issue with that always opaque rear window.

Regarding issues with eye strain or just difficulty in eyes adjusting to the DRVM, my suspicion is that age has something to do with how this affects different drivers. For most of us, sometime in our forties we start needing reading glasses or progressive lenses -- and it is those drivers who likely are going to find the DRVM uncomfortable to use. If so, chances are that the drivers who find that the DRVM works well tend to be younger.

The addition of a monitor as a replacement for the rearview mirror misses a big feature of a rearward facing camera. Namely the the monitor could be _anywhere_. I would (and maybe will) put the rear monitor on the bottom-center of the windscreen. That way I could see both out the back and out the front with out moving my head much, nor refocusing my eyes. Another advantage, illustrated in David's demo video, is that the camera can be made to "see through the glare" of headlights. In fact, if the camera has some infrared capability (as in a security camera) you could "see in the dark" behind you when traveling or stand still, when the backup lights are not lit. Very impressive! I love the idea of the rest view camera. I wish Hyundai incorporated the cameras into a dashcam / sentry mode type of security. I guess they gave enough 12v battery issues to deal with right now. Maybe in the future. Thanks for the info

That rear view camera mirror is a nice upgrade and certainly appears to overcome the lack of a wiper. I would prefer to have both the camera and wiper. I am so used to the backup camera now that I wouldn't want another vehicle without one. I can see that review camera would be the same thing. They should offer that as an option on the other trims.

Own 2024 Ioniq 5 Limited. Initially used both digital and normal. Nothing is perfect but for me have gone to using DRVM 100% of time. It is different but very functional. BTW, love the car. Don’t miss the rear wiper.

These cameras are made for people with perfect vision and generally under 40 yo. Once you experience presbyopia and need readers, these mirrors take time to focus and can actually bring on nausea. I was excited for having one on my 2024 Limited but now I never use it. I'm 62.

Korean ioniq owner is currently starting to use our OT-DCM (normal type like a genuine) / OT-DCM PRO ( that can record front and back all the time.) Its frame rate is 60 fps

I had a 2023 Limited and now a 2024 Limited. The camera for the rearview mirror is under the spoiler and rarely gets dirty while the backup camera in the bumper gets dirty all the time. If you switch back and forth you do notice eyestrain and issues focusing but if you leave it on all the time it goes away. I found turning the brightness down to the lowest really helps on the focus/eyestrain. Like the video shows it is actually better in a lot of situations than the rearview mirror. If this was my first Ioniq, I wouldn't care about the rear wiper. Be aware if you want to wire in a dash cam, the dongar that worked for the 2022-2023 will not work with the digital rearview mirror. Fitcamx is the only one that will work.

I didn’t think I’d like it, but now I can’t imagine driving without one! Took some time to adjust to the depth, especially at stop lights where it looks like you’re constantly being tailgated. Plus it’s fun to watch people behind you pick their nose 😂

Looks like a great function to make up for the lack of the rear wiper. As DK showed in the descriptions from Korea, it kept the camera when the wiper was added, hope that makes it across the Pacific. If David is here... is the rear camera heated or does it have a wash function? Needs to be kept clear of snow and ice in the winter.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL is the middle option of the three models that were offered in the USA in 2022, the other two being the SE and the Limited.

This is why the Polestar 4 looks exciting. They've gotten rid of the rear view window all together and only have the camera system. I'm excited to see the reliability testing on that when it finally releases to the public later this year.
