I live in wv. Coal is a mainstay for a lot of people. Coal stoves gives off a lot heat. You must have a good filllter for it because it is dusty. It is also a very dry heat. My dad had a warm morning stove in our home. Usually you could fill the stove up before bed time and it would last all night . Some people in our area still use Coal furnaces.
I slowed down around 61 due to cancer treatment but I turn 67 this year and my energy level has finally starting to increase. Firewood shed looks great with the pallets. Thanks for sharing
I would do the rain water catchment into IBC totes and then pump to the tanks. Easier and cheaper than trenching. Coal is great heat. Better than wood for longer burns.
Good call on simply using the pallets whole. Cut your time down significanly and was much easier option in the long run. They look good on the shelter and will supply the necessary ventilation needed. Nick, you think it's bad at 39 - add 35 more years to that and then you'll really feel it 🙁 That was great of Jackery to send you the 2000Plus setup and and the extra battery pack!! I could sure use one and I'm envious 😛 Good job you guys. Have a good week. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.
I was thinking that was how you were going to use the pallets in the first place. It looks great glad you came to the same idea I had Lol,you all are awesome enjoy watching all your hard work coming together.
Good thinking Jen (the Brains of the family😁ha-Ha.!! Maybe wrap the walls Outside with House wrap, fill inner panels with left over insulation, Its only wood but weather gets to it. I'm 78 still doing DIY on my own🤓 thanks for the videos Love from UK x x x
I have been using water catchment system for 17 years, we don't drink the water or cook with it. We use it for duties around the property and showers and have no problem except for the weather not helping us now and then. We buy water every 2 months and get 4,500 gallons, calling for water delivery when we get down to about 1,500 gallons in the tank. My tank holds 7,000 gallons. The cost of the water is $180.00 for 4,500 gallons from well water in our development.
Nick our oldest is 39 and all I hear is complaining about this and that but when the big 50 hits its all down hill from there !!! Jen great decision on using the palettes for the wood shed looks great❤️🇨🇦
I'm 79 and now I have a bad knee. I've done all the things you have done and what your doing now. My bus build is almost done. A 38' and nows it's 42' with 3000 solar. So age isn't the reason for back problems. Have a good Doc check you out.
Great idea with the pallet, great video always a pleasure to see the progress. I understand the well issue they are expensive. You have to choose your battles.
You may eventually have to bolt those pallets on as the years take a toll on the holding power of those screws. Glad you switched gears. The butter knife was much faster but not good for finish trim work 😂
Wood Shed a Great place for snakes to hide in the palettes. Get some garlic oil and spray the lower half to keep them away they don't like the smell of Garlic, Onions, Mint chilli or other strong smelling plants , Love your vids. Del UK
Coal Burns a lot hotter than wood. Also, make sure that you're stove can take that much heat. Wood stoves a lot of the time, Cannot burn coal. Your wood storage shed looks amazing! You always seem to work smarter instead of harder.
Nice use of pallets, where I am (BC Canada) the wood sheds I made are open front and back. This is so I don't have to endlessly move wood around to get at the seasoned wood that will be at the rear of the pile. Coal is an okay fuel source but it can be really messy and smelly depending on the quality of it. Coal can burn at much higher temperatures and can damage your wood stove, you can get multi-fuel stoves. Coal would be a great choice if you ever decided to install a outdoor boiler style of heater.
Shed and woodshed look great. When we lived in western PA a lot of folks including us, would burn coal in our stoves since it was very readily available. Our property also was covered in oak and cherry, so endless supply of firewood. Be careful with the coal - most stoves aren't capable of burning it due to the heat it generates. Most coal capable stoves have a firebrick liner, not just something that looks good, but true refractory brick. Coal is also dirtier burning than wood, but the coal ashes are great on icy driveways! Since moving to Utah, I haven't seen coal for sale, but that may be because St George doesn't get cold!!
I started to get back problems in my late 40’s and it’s been down hill ever since. I am now 65 years old from Scotland. I have watch you both since the beginning. Coal here in Scotland is the way to go. I burn both hard wood logs and Anthrasite, this keeps the log burner burning all night in the winter months. I have a multi stove that can burn both. Make sure your stove is okay to burn coal as it reaches a far higher temperature than just wood. Thanks for all the great viewing over the years.
Hey Nick and Jen. The pallet idea will work well for your fireplace wood. Have y’all thought about a Mr. Cool mini split for your ac and heating needs? All of their systems are heat pumps but should be able to keep you cool in the summer and most of the winter with your stove. Reach out to Mr. Cool or one of the other brands and see if will help you guys out. Marsha and I enjoy your channel from Texas. Good luck!
The pallet choice 2.0, was a good one. Your wood will have good air flow to dry. And, the pallets will stop most if not all snow from coming in the shed. The boards you did get to disassemble, would work better than the plywood for the front 3' or so, if not the whole floor, That way you won't have to worry about the plywood coming apart, where some snow will blow in and get the floor wet. Coal does burn long, and it burns hot. I doubt your woodstove is rated for that much heat. Even if it is, everything around your home will get black soot on it, and, it doesn't have near the appealing smell that burning wood does.
Hey guys, use anthracite coal. It's the best & long burning due to it's hardness. Slightly pricey but worth it. Long lasting with high heat output and cleanest for coal. Keep a good base too. Look it up!!!
When I seen the pallets, that is what I thought you were doing and then using the single that you broke off to 'fill' the space between so no snow would get in so your wood would keep dry. However it came up way better that I thought, great work guys! What happened to all the chickens? Did they die in the cold? They weren't enclosed like last year.
use them for the floor too since the shed will only be holding fire wood, the siding will look just fine. What did you have to pay for all the pallets.
I'm 60 this year. Used to have a lot of back/hip problems. Now (after hips replaced) I am going strong. Top tip - make sure you take the time to stretch/strengthen yr body every morning before you start your day. Same as an engine. We gotta warm it up and treat it right for longevity. Go well. Loving your vids.
Maybe a huge permanent plastic tank on a trailer so you can hook up the motor home so while you're filling you have all the creature comforts of home easy peezy 😊😊😊😊
Wood shed looking good!! Your metal shed on pallets are ok, but you need to put plywood over it to seal it up. Otherwise, you are going to have all kinds of issues.
Nick, I am 39 years old, and I feel like I am 90 years old bc when I was younger, I did some dumb stuff and didn't listen, so now I am paying for it now 😂😂😂!
1 ton of coal is equal too 2.5 to 3 cords of wood it burns hotter also no waking up in the middle of the night stoking the wood I would stick a chunk of coal about the size of a soccer ball in the stove it would last all night
You know, in a week or so, you will say why didn't we make the back look as good as the sides and then you will tear it down and do the backside over again.
1 Kings 17:20-22 King James Version 20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? 21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. 22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. Gods blessings over you
You have aways to go for BIT ING about pain. I have had THREE BACK SURGERYS and now have a BATTERY and WIRES in it, plus I have had about 50 hrs of SURGERY on my FEET. Ya it hurts but I just keep going. ! ! ! TAKE CARE TO ALL OF YOU ! ! !
I think I started slowing down around 60. Unfortunately, a man’s brain ages at about 1/3 the rate of the body so when the brain says “Oh yeah, you can do that!” while the body’s saying “I wouldn’t recommend it!”.
I find it depressing that a person needs a ""Permit"" to catch and store for future use the rain that falls out of the sky. God gives us rain for free so how is it that someone or some corporation can actually ""Charge"" you for what God gives you for free. I understand safety codes and such are to protect us but still it gripes me to have to pay for something that comes to us that is actually free in the first ..... place. I've always said positive things when commenting but this is the first time ever that I have said something on the negative side. Please forgive me. That was the best Idea to change your pallet construction plans. A better approach to a difficult job. Many thumbs up for that!!! Southern AZ.
I am totally with you about this. Why does it matter if I collect rainwater on my own property. Doesn’t make sense to me either but I don’t make the rules. lol. 😂
Sorry that looks cheap and nasty, are u going to change the name of that place to the Pallett Holdings. Gutters & down pipes on the unit above the garage + the shed over the water tanks would be plenty of catchment for all the watyer u would ever use
