In this short I show one of the theoretical ways you could have obtained a raichu for 2016 world championship uses. It involves using RNG Manipulation, a cool trick that allows you to tip the scales of fate in your favor.

it's also not against pokemons rules. Judges have explicitly allowed it dozens of times. If you think it's cuz of datamining being banned in the TOS, hope you don't use any IV calc or use serebii EVER.

There still isn't a good way to track EVs. Being able to change nature is a big deal and a massive step in the right direction, but it didn't erase all of the tedium.

Well yea, because TPC doesn’t enforce the rules. Using that tool for the rng seed is cheating by definition, and for some reason , TPC let’s it slide. I’d be one thing if the losers kept their cheating mouths shut but I mean damn they throw it in our faces

The most sane take on the whole thing is that as long as it's legal, fair play by me. Doesn't really matter if it was lucky, galaxybrain rng manip, or genned. Allowing any _legal_ pokemon regardless of how they're obtained is the best way to democratize competitive pokemon and help the scene survive and thrive. If that's not reason enough, the fact remains that any rule that is not and _can not_ be enforced, isn't really a rule at all, as is the case with policing genned legal mons since they are virtually impossible to differentiate from a identical legit mon.

Knew someone who judged at VGC events from locals to nationals to international levels. He straight up told me that anyone competent (i.e. top 256 players) will likely have genned or hired someone to gen their teams for them. That is because it is super tedious to get everything you need for a team even today. However, as a judge they have no proof unless they literally saw someone using the mod straight up in front of their faces which happened once for him but all he could do is say is don't do it again because the judges can't prove that the generator was used for that specific team registered. Furthermore, all Pokemon are registered in a battle box (until gen 9 when they didn't program one) and are sent through an online Hax check by Gamefreak themselves, if it is green then everything is considered legitimate. It is incredibly rare that anyone fails Gamefreak's legal hack check.

You forgot to mention that all this stuff you did wasn’t discovered until gen 7 came out which was after the Worlds Turney that Wolf used the Raichu in and it required a modded or homebrewed system (meaning hacked).

There needs to be a VGC but exclusively Pokemon from the Battle Factory like Emerald. Players go through each round with the option of swapping for a Pokemon their previously opponent just used. No manipulation, just squarely based on luck and skill.

No it’s not because it has 2 guaranteed perfect ivs. If it had no guaranteed ivs it’d be substantially rarer, and all other Pokémon can be syncrod for a 50% chance of their nature. I have no idea what the second have of ur comment means

For example, shiny Charizard in gen 2 does not kill skarmory, but normal 15 sp. attack Charizard does. Not having a pokemon max is literally a disadvantage and can fuck you over

In older generations, many people hacked their competitive Pokémon to have the correct ivs, natures, and evs, but they always had legal stats. Now it is possible to change a Pokémon's nature and give it max iv and ev stats, so there isn't much of a reason to hack your Pokémon's stats anymore. I used powersaves to give my Pokémon the legal max ivs and evs when I played the 3ds Pokémon games but there is no need to do that anymore because I can just change those stats in the generation 8 and 9 games.

@@BornFromEmbers That's why me and my other friends at the time had to use Powersaves to modify our Pokémon's stats. We didn't have the time to waste hundreds of hours breeding for perfect Pokémon. Now players actually have methods in game to modify their Pokémon's stats and actually build their team, which is great. Although some people still claim it gives people an unfair advantage over the players who prefer the old method of breeding or resetting for the chance to get a perfect Pokémon. I have come across some people who hate that we have the option to modify our Pokémon's stats. I guess some people must have liked spending hours hatching eggs or resetting the game. 😂

There is no way he used this method, this is something he himself could have explained that he did but this method wasn't popular at the time. This means either this was the method he used which he would be proud to share or odds were so great yet he was unaware of the luck he had to exactly the Pikachu he needed without a second thought of just using what he had. I was involved in the competitions at the time and RNG manipulation wasn't considered cheating so why hasn't he just said he did this method?

Also this method didn’t exist at the time Wolfey and Markus made their teams at worlds. It was only discovered to exist when Pokémon sun and moon came out. So it’s impossible for Markus and Wolfey to RNG their teams when it didn’t exist.

@@ant-man-um4wu the official VGC should not have this arbitrary barrier because the ability and time dedicated to hunting and training has no influence on the knowledge of the meta game in a competition. "Everyone else" is not doing the same. This is an open secret in the VGC. GameFreak has been (slowly) making the IV/EV grind easier each generation. Why not cut to chase and remove the necessity altogether?

While things got easier than prior gens, the competitive support in the games is still utter garbage. No way to proper check EV's, no numerical knowledge on EV gain (how am i supposed to know that the item gives +8 and magikarp gives +1 speed w/o the internet e.g.) IV's STILL not customizable (great I can max them out, but what if I want to reduce them?) honestly I don't blame anyone who just goes "F it, I just create legal copies"

Honestly, almost every competitor generates their Pokemon. The reason is that they are good is that they have more time to theory craft and field test their teams instead of spending dozens of hours grinding out the Pokemon teams. Knew judges who all acknowledged that any famous VGC competitor generates Pokemon but they couldn't prove it since they always pass Pokemon's hack check. The only real way they DQ people for hacking is if the competitor straight up told the judges themselves they hacked ... which never happens (also overhearing an admission doesn't count, they have to straight up talk to a judge and tell them that they cheated). Heck, there is a Pokemon company employee with an exclusive bulletproof briefcase that is designed to do special hack checks and if the competitors pass that check, then there is a strong presumption of no hacking or genning.

No because event mons usually are banned or don’t have an exclusive move. Ash gren was banned I believe. It’s part of the reason why mythicals have always been banned in comp play. The event moms often allowed are mons that have nothing different about them besides maybe the cherishball. If it was a raichu he got during the event I don’t think people would mind because transferring old mons was nothing new but that wasn’t what he did. Probably didn’t even do the event when it took place lol.

They could work hard to making hacking difficult.. and could make Pokémon that transfer via home (i.e. other games) convert to a transfer Pokeball, so you know it's transferred and they can't be used in competitive (for certain rules anyway). They could even make it so Pokémon have a set amount of Max IVs possible.. say the max number of IVs from 25-31 is 3 stats. 2 from 15-24 and 2 from 0-14. That would make it interesting seeing some different approaches on the same Pokémon, and make some Pokémon have more counter plays than today

However, I like the variance of natures, IVs and EVs in the game, it makes Pokémon a lot more immersive and meaningful. They shouldn't lose that, it makes the ACTUAL game better (especially if they were to utilise it more). For competitive, bottle caps and the proposed rusted bottle cap would do the job... With nature mints etc. I wouldn't even be against pure Showdown style competitive Pokémon. Why make it hard? Why bother catching the Pokémon? Let people just play if that's their jam. You could make it so you can only choose from Pokémon registered in Pokédex maybe.

Hacking isn't cheating if the stats are legit and the same as what everyone else used anyways. The only difference is that people who don't manually modify their Pokémon's stats are voluntarily wasting their own time by choosing to reset to get a perfect iv and nature Pokémon. Current Pokémon games even have similar mechanics to hacking Pokémon stats. Now any Pokémon can be competitively viable because you can change a Pokémon's nature, evs, and ivs in the game itself, which is what "hacking" a Pokémon did in the past.

It doesn't take skill to sit there and reset your game or hatch hundreds of Pokémon eggs, it's just a tedious and time consuming mechanic. Plus you can always test your team on Pokémon Showdown like the majority of competitive players. Even though many people generate perfect Pokémon or manually modify them to have perfect stats, they still use Showdown to practice because it is an even easier and very helpful tool to competitive players that allows them to build a team in under 5 minutes. Also, current Pokémon games have mechanics to allow players to change their Pokémon's stats so that they are perfect. Would you also say that players who use the in game mechanics in modern games to make their Pokémon perfect have an unfair advantage over those that choose to reset or breed perfect Pokémon? People have the option to modify a Pokémon's stats if they want to and choosing not to do so is just a person's own choice to give themselves a handicap instead of using their time wisely and practicing with their teams.

I really think the game would be better off without this type of thing. When the community starts reducing the game to spreadsheets and 3rd party software something is wrong. I think GF and the community have strayed off our original path. If we knew pokemon would become this way in 1998….I doubt the game would have become what it is today. Then the logical part of me who has been a casual gamer for 25 years realizes some nerd eventually does this with just about every game at some point. 😅 Another strange thing I have noticed about people who min/max everything in video games, they are generally completely opposite with their personal lives in reality.🤔
