Man, I was just sitting here thinking to myself “what does Brandon Perna think about the XFL.” Thanks Brandon, you never let me down, unlike my father who has been buying cigarettes for 12 years.
Here’s the thing about Punts. When you punt it into the receivers hands there bound to get 40+ so why not always punt it out of bounds to keep it at 35? They obviously didn’t think it through.
Those kickoff/punt rules are...actually really good. Not only does it make the game a hell of a lot more safe, it also makes them much more exciting, cause anything can happen now. Really excited for this league to kick off!
@@asmahasmalaria8596 I don't think it will die off early. Vince Mcmahon has actually invested a ton of time and money into this project, unlike the guys who ran the AAF who after one week were scrambling for more money and eventually had to be bailed out by the owner of the Carolina Hurricanes before they eventually died off.
Nice to know that it wasn't just Saints fans who were thinking what would Sean do if 2 foward passes were allowed, thought we would need a higher cap to pay the 3 of them (and Kamara who I guess could learn how to pass well enough).
If the xfl can survive the start up losses for a couple/three years and build a fan base it could do really well as a season extension. It would certainly add another option for, or entirely replace the cfl for career rehab. Sure the players will have to learn a few new things but that has to be easier then learning three down football on a much larger feild.
I like most of the changes (especially the one foot in bounds one, I never could comprehend the NFL's two feet standard), though I don't like they removed the "coach challenge". I also like the new kickoff, but I would change it slightly so there are TWO lines on each side, separated by 5 yards and staggered. Also, for "Punting" I think they should have done something different to increase the kicker's safety as well as the receivers. For the extra point, I would have kept the kicker as an option for one point, but they have to kick it like 20-30 yards back from the location of the ball, and then maybe removed the one-point option, keeping the 2 and 3 point options. Lastly, for "Overtime" I would simply allow each team a single possession and then repeating until a team scores and the other doesn't score on their possession. This repeating goal line thing is stupid in my view.
I actually like that the extra point was eliminated. It's a pointless play unless you make every extra point a 45 yarder. For the XFL with their current rules I like the route they chose. Kickers still kick feild goals and they have to be accurate and precise on kick offs. So I think kickers have to be on point , and after touchdowns with no extra point is that much more exciting.
A 3 point conversion from the 10 would be the easiest conversion. The offense has more room to work with and the defense has to cover more of the field.
So they took the shootout part from hockey what would be nice to see is in ot each team gets a chance to score or after a team scores wins, you play one quarter if it's still tied after that go to the shootout and then during playoffs take out the shootout
Bring it on. I've grown to dislike the NFL over the years and don't watch current seasons anymore. I've gone back to appreciate those badasses that played back in the 60s, 70s, and some of the 80s.
Not sure how I feel about less clock stoppage. Most of the real coaching and strategizing would be during pregame, halftime, 2 minute warning or injuries. And are the penalties the same as the NFL?
While the perception of the NFL overtime rules is that there is a problem, an analysis of the statistics (through the 2018-2019 season) shows that the reality is the rules are just fine - you only have a 50/50 chance of winning if you possess the ball first in OT: "The OT rules are fine. The numbers back it up. Six out of 10 times, the team that loses the coin toss gets to also possess the ball. Overall, the winners of the coin toss have won only 50% of OT games. The team to possess the ball second has won 44% of the OT games, and 6% of the games have ended in a tie. "The current rule was first implemented in the 2010 playoffs, but was extended to regular season games in 2012. Under these rules, there have been a total of 118 overtime games. This includes regular season and playoffs, and includes yesterday's games. Wins by team that possesses the ball first: 59 (50%) Of these wins, 23 were on an opening drive TD (39.0% of team with first possession wins, 19.5% overall overtime games) Wins by team that possesses the ball second: 52 (44.1%) Ties: 7 (5.9%)" "Regular Season (110 OT games): Wins by team that possesses the ball first: 52 (47.3%) Of these wins, 18 were on an opening drive TD (34.6% of team with first possession wins, 16.4% overall overtime games) Wins by team that possesses the ball second: 51 (46.4%) Ties: 7 (6.4%) (excuse the rounding error adding up to 100.1%)" www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/aic4gt/since_the_overtime_rule_change_in_2012_the_team/ "
They should include 1 player's challenge per game. The most trigger-happy player on each team would test their XFL rules knowledge for the benefit of our viewership.
Why can't there be a tie after 4 quarters? Does football really needs overtime? Why it has to have a winner and a looser? More ties (in X- and NFL) could lead to less complicated tiebreakers.
i dont like that kickers were removed from extra points. I like the 3-point extra point, but I don't think getting a one-point extra point should rely on your offense. I think the one point extra point should be a freeby 90% of the time.
One other rule they should institute is that if an official makes an obvious & blatant bad call, that official should be flogged by the player he/she threw or didn't throw the flag on with a kendo stick for as many seconds as the yardage of the penalty. (Gotta have some consequence for the shit calls that are ruining football - this would certainly provide an incentive for them to get it right. Feels strange saying this, but I haven't watched a single game since the seagulls, saints, and packers all got screwed by the refs in the last game of the regular season... just sick of all the horseshit calls deciding games.)
They have funding for 3 already before a single game. One or two commercials during the Super Bowl and a hopefully great first season will bring them many more than 3 I believe
and if REALLY conservative, all an NFL XP but only give 1/2 point! That would effectively eliminate OT, while allowing a team thats losing badly a chance with a 7 point XP!
trey randall the season will start on February 8, just a couples days after the super bowl. The games will air on ESPN, Fox, FS1, and ABC. As for is it worth watching? That’s for you to decide. Here’s the schedule: www.xfl.com/en-US/articles/xfl-releases-2020-schedule
So the XFL is going to have a winter/spring season? Guess that's alot better than trying to directly compete with the NFL, but then you have to wonder if the classical spring sports are going to take away from XFL viewership
The punt rule is really dumb. Coffin corners are really impressive and I think it's ridiculous to take them away. Other than that, I think the XFL rule changes look nice.
