"A continuing confrontation was a problem that they felt that they had to handle....with two wars going on and and another unexpected situation in Asia would have been quite unwelcome, I think, for both sides."

Thankyou...recently there was a cyber attack on port infrastructure in Australia that has been traced back to China. At the same time Chinese immigration has increased substantially since the lifting of covid restrictions. Yesterday I read that very wealthy Chinese are taking private jets to Melbourne and Sydney and are buying up prooerty at any price, pushing the cost out of the range of most people. This coincides with the fact that our laws against money laundering are quite weak.

No Fortune 500, CAC 40 or FTSE 100 company will be investing in China because they now know what will happen if there is conflict . Xi’s pronouncements on Taiwan on the back of Russian activity will actively steer China in to the middle income trap.

Since Biden clearly will defend Taiwan , why is nobody asking the next questions: "What does China needs the most and who has it ? And how easy it could get it's hands on?" Everybody focusses on Taiwan, but that won't be an easy fight to get through military deployment. Russia , more precise Siberia, has what China needs. (Oil ,gas ,other resources and foremost space) And in a year or 2 Russia will not really be able to put up a real fight against the Chinese Army. And the west won't give a ******* that Russia gets attacked. Food for thought I think.
