Honestly, if Yahoo had bought Google, Google would have been ruined on the pure basis of differing business strategies. Its very likely we would not have the youtube we have today, or many of our freedoms with tech. Nor would we have android. Yahoo was not an internal innovator, but rather a corporate buyer.
its probably best if yahoo tried to merge with google.. and let google take the drivers seat.. with that, they wont lose money.. and practically earn more in the coming years without too much to worry about
It is very likely that they would buy Google only to drive it out of business as many large corporations do. It would be interesting to see the development of internet without Google.
That's true, I was thinking the same, but then I thought that if they had bought or better yet -merged with Google, Sergey and Larry would still be a part of the company and probably hold positions strong enough for them to employ their innovativeness and ideas and maybe still create the things we have today. Basically, because they would have a seat on the table, they might've been able to influence some decisions, and enact their innovative ideas.
Yeah, Yahoo has always been a cesspit for online trolls, horny teens, weird creepy older men and white supremacists losers. Not exactly what Google is known for. Thank God they didn't buy it, they would have ruined it. Die Yahoo, Die.
@@fxshyy IOS is not a phone its an operating system. And Android has control of about 75% of the phones in the market right now, ios is not even close.
Saudi Arabia paid Swedish politicians in billions for not involving in Norwegian oil interest. Corrupted & drunken Swedish did the same what Saudi wanted them to do.
What's interesting is not only that Yahoo missed the opportunity to buy google, but also that of being bought by Microsoft. Microsoft tried to buy them for around 50 billions to compete with google and they asked for more.... So MS turned them down, fortunately, as this would have ruined MS... A couple of years later they came back to MS offering them to be bought for I think 37bn but by that time MS didn't care anymore and was developing Bing (which by the ways makes 3bn a year...). Now even the 4.5bn Verizon spent for yahoo in 2017 have been written off to a large extent...
Advertising companies pay for having their Ads on a website in the first place, so user clicks just add up to the revenue. And like someone else said; most do it accidentally. But showing specific Ads over and over again can still influence people subconsciously, they can make a lot of people prefer or not prefer something (like a color, brand or person) by repeatedly displaying them in a certain way. A lot of Facebook's manipulative adds work this way.
Can please cover a company that actually cares about its users? Something like DuckDuckGo, Brave, Signal, Telegram or maybe the Mozilla Foundation. It would be a very interesting topic and they have very interesting stories. Also showing people there are other options than companies that turn their life into currency. Great video though Edit: ProtonMail as well.
How do you suppose they get profit? Duckduckgo use anonymity as a differentiating factor. They don`t care about you. For any company, users are numbers. Google does many charitable things and are innovating. I am not blind, they DO doge taxes but which large corporation doesn`t? I see too much negativity. Are people just bored on picking o apple?
@@overpowered5919 And no. Also, I used to hate Apple a lot, but after realising that they value privacy just a bit more than the rest of the billion dollar companies, I don't dislike them that much. And of course we'll hate Google. They've made privacy today living hell. Of course Facebook is equally as bad and there are other companies as well. We're not cherry picking our choices. This is no bandwagon. You've just not realised for these past couple of years how bad this situation has gotten.
@@uniqhnd23 I can assure you I do, but I think that people are being manipulated buy news outlets ( paid to negatively potray google and facebook ). Know that media companies have an incentive to antagonise google and the likes as there are taking market share. Sure privacy isn`t great, but when has it been? The reason you think that it seems to have gotten even worse is beacause there has been more focus on it. If it isn`t google then it will be twitter, microsoft or someone else. I would rather prefer it to be google. Btw, I don`t particularly favour any of the tech company over the other but the way you put it is like google is doing something that is abnormal.
and AOL, and MSN. i remember watching the butterfly flap it's colorful wings for about 2 minutes while it made those funky internet sounds, then 30 seconds later my mom yelling as to why her call just dropped.. then searching on Ask Jeeves.
This was a great video I was always under the impression that. That Google beat Yahoo because of superior technology and algorithms even Warren Buffett in his talks gave that impression but you have described it in a very simple way to be otherwise Google simply beat Yahoo due to superior value for users and the economics of search engines seem soo simple after watching this video ....thank you
I actually took your skillshare class and thought your voice sounded familiar in your youtube videos. Anyways, loved your lessons and it got me into stock trading as a side gig!
I can’t remember the last time I used Yahoo as a search engineer...2002? No back then I had already switched to AltaVista. Today, Yahoo is reduced to nothing more a social news page for celebrity gossip and rumors...it’s basically white leople’s WorldStarHipGop.
A very well-explained video. I guess I still don't get Yahoo vs. Google because I use my url field to search, and find both Google's and Yahoo's ad's to be intrusive! :/
You know, if Yahoo bought many Google. they will apply what Yahoo's feature the banner ads to Google right? From the start, Yahoo already fails even they got Googl, and someone will create what is Google right now with a different name.
YAHOO EXEC 1: Maybe we should improve out business model? CONSUELA: No... no. YAHOO EXEC 2: Improve our original content? CONSUELA: No... no. YAHOO EXEC 3: So, we have no corporate identity? CONSUELA: We secondary Email people use to sign up for porn sites.
I was introduce to the internet in the 1990s by using Yahoo search engine on a public computer inside a library. Because of that today I use both Yahoo and Google. Yahoo still have hundred of million users worldwide. Google learned from Yahoo banner adds mistake and created a better search engine. There is no way Google owners would have sold or merged with Yahoo in the second negotiation after winning the search engine war. The unacceptable $5 billion ( 5 symbol of death) by Google was a clever way to say no to Yahoo.
in 2009 I went for an interview asked for an opportunity but they behaved very rudely I was very disappointed that day but today they are in bottom currently.
We don't know what would happen with Google if Yahoo bought it. It may be as good as it's now or better/worse. There are just too many possible scenarios that could happen. The Google part in Yahoo may be worth even less than 5 billion nowadays.
Yahoo lost its proposition value which was making search easy for average users, they focused too much on making revenues that they lost what their mission was.
