Fantastic video, very easy to follow and understand. The part at the end where you show the blending modes was icing on the cake, that really made the color change pop.
Wow! What a beautiful car! I think Robert is onto something. A true artist you are, George! The car companies need to take a look at your work. Always amazing!
Duuuude!!! You are awesome defined!!! I appreciate you soooo much!!! I own 4 small companies, A.D.D lol, its a gift??!!! I have always believed you can learn anything, if your willing to listen. I struggled over the years to pay out the cash and get graphic arts done, logos, social media, advertisements ...etc etc , because I think with the right mentoring everyone can do this....again, "if you are willing to learn" and invest the time. It is currently Saturday night and I passed on a few offers to go out, so I could watch another video of yours to accomplish a graphics goal for my business a current desire to get some good stuff out there and represent my 18 years as a self employed person. Previous life, I would sit for hours and hours and hours manipulating MS Paint to get some sort of custom look. ( I claim, I am the King of Paint). I then slowly progressed into PS elements and then CC products. You my friend have been such an asset to my success....and, I continually return to your video and elements to achieve desired looks. I have become proficient in CC products....HOWEVER, I think of something new I want to do and I return to you my friend. Efficient, smooth, detailed and I can always get the result I am looking for!!! YOU ARE THE BEST
It was interesting to see why you converted to black and whiter mode before doing a hue/saturation colorization. That was something new to me in removing unwanted tints
+DrinkingStar That's the main problem with Hue/Saturation, it shifts all colors along the spectrum, not just one color. And in this case I wanted to color the white areas without shifting the reflected colors, so doing a black and white or desaturation first then blending back into the original solved the problem.
Hi, I got to the part of converting to b&w so when I clicked on advance I noticed that that choice is not highlighted. Can you please tell me how is that possible? Thank you.
HI Ann, it sounds like you are on the Layer Mask side of the layer. Look at the layer and see if the light blue outline around the thumbnail is around the layer mask or the image thumbnail. If it is around the layer mask then that is the problem. Double click on the image thumbnail to make that side of the layer active. What happens is that the layer mask is already in black and white so no way to convert to black and white. George
George, Thank you again for a great tutorial. I have not seen till now, the need to use the selection tool you illustrated to get the fine points done. The combination of the two can be a big time saver, thank you! I also enjoy as always the effect of blending modes and because you started with a white color, you can actually see the kind of change that the different blending modes make. I have been working on a project that required me to use a lot of clipping mask. So to make sure I am doing this correctly, the main purpose of the clipping mask is to tie the blending mode into the selection or layer underneath it, is this correct or am I over simplifying things? Thank you! Rich
+MrMoonpie001 Hi Rich, you are correct. The clipping mask is used to limit the effect to just that area of the picture. You could just do a selection and apply an effect to that, or use the selection to copy to a new layer and then apply the blending mode or effect but by using a clipping mask you are able to go back later if need be and make adjustments. The blending mode controls how the layer blends with layers underneath of it, the clipping mask limits the effect to just a portion of the layer. George
I am scared to say, I think I am getting this! I know my selection process continues to improve. Hair is still the biggest problem area. Is it possible to create your own brush with lets say one hair on it and then set the adjustments to create hair? I would think by using 1 pixel, scattered and the direction you paint, one could do something like this? Your thoughts? Perhaps a future tutorial, facial hair or replacement on the head (I wish they had this in real life!) Thanks again for all you do! Rich
+MrMoonpie001 Hi Rich, hair is always a problem. No way to get it 100% unless you are real lucky or shoot a model against white. I have come across several pictures while doing image research for my videos where I cannot get a good selection of the hair no matter what I try. On creating new hair I was thinking about doing a video where I make a short hair cat into a long hair cat doing basically what you are talking about but using the single grass leaf brush that is standard in PSE. Phlearn did a real nice job on adding facial hair using Photoshop a while ago and I might do a variation of that technique for PSE, I'll think about it. As for creating a whole head of hair, not sure it could be done realistically unless you can find two different pictures, one with the person you want and the other with the hair you want. There may be some custom brushes on the web for creating hair, never looked into that. George
The closest thing I have come to find in replicating hair is using a picture that is very large to make a selection on. I found one of a Civil War General named Burnside (whom sideburns were named after) he had such overgrowth and detail in the large image that I was able to make a decent selection. The other big thing is to deal with Black and white or make the picture black and white to make the selection, these things seem to help. I learned them from you!!! LOL Rich
Thanks for showing how to change the color white to another color. Can you tell me how to colorize another special case? How do I change a black object to another color? Thanks again.
This video and your video on changing the color of black objects using Elements are both really valuable. I have multiple books on Elements and none of them addresses these two special cases. I have viewed a number of videos on changing colors with Elements and I find your videos to be the most helpful, most clear, and most concise on this sometimes challenging subject. I am appreciative of your time and effort to share your expertise. Thank you for your quick response.
How to colonize (change the color) of a complex object with emphasis on retaining colors that are reflected onto the surface. Tricks include converting selection to B/W and using the blending function.
Thanks Don, good summation but I think you meant colorize, not colonize, although it is an interesting concept. Thanks again for watching my videos George
If you can would you paint the tank and both fenders along with the black box above that black turn dial right below the seat for me in an off white color? Just asking but any input would be most appreciated. softails2018.thunderbike.de/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Clubman-18-1030x687.jpg REPLY
Hi Louie, changing black paint into color paint requires a special technique. Here is a video I did that shows how ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sjsgzBdBOj4.html George howtogurus.com
