Sometimes simple jobs dont go to plan. More often than not, car repairs never go as smoothly as they are described in workshop manuals or "how to" videos.
I always try to video not only the job in hand but also the unexpected difficulties that may arise. This is a prime example of unexpected problems!

Did you not think to measure the diameter of the old and new sensor rings before whacking the disc on! Don't like to see vehicle only supported by a jack in a public service video - creates a dangerous example to others.

Your supposed to take the sensor out first...if you can't get it out brake it...there very cheap...

Thank you for your comment. Sensors should never actually touch the pick up ring so no need to remove it. Also on these, the bolt holding the sensor in is behind the disc so it's not possible remove it first.

Hi there. I will be changing the rear pads on my daughters 3008 after MOT advice note and came across your channel while researching the said job. Thoroughly well explained and carried out, took special interest in the ABS sensor and will look out for that should Disk's need replacing in the future. Cheers from Merseyside.👍

Good guide but I spotted it two days too late! Just done the pads on my 5008. They were jammed in the carrier too. The car now does 5 more miles to the gallon!

It's exactly as you say, at '16:54', it is corrosion build up behind the Abs sensor. It misaligned the sensor and when you put a new disc/hub on, it is then too close to thAbs pickup rings and just mashes it to bits. Try to remove the Abs sensor before fitting the new disc. Then clean the backplate of the corrosion behind it. Be very gentle putting new disc on if you have refitted the abs sensor. Or just Fit the disc then the abs sensor (It can be done?) 👍

Changed a Citroen C4 set recently. Same design. One side no issues but had exactly the same issue of the disc snagging on the sensor damaging the magnetic ring. It took chunks out of the ring meaning the ABS light came on. I bought a replacement ring and put it on but gently put the disc on but had the same problem. Then ordered a new sensor. Still the same. Cleaned around the disc back plate etc. So I drilled the actual sensor hole very carefully so I could move it back enough to get 'air gap'. All good, ABS light out and it passed the MOT.

What tools would I need to replace the front discs and pads from a 5008?
@themidnightmechanic9368
@themidnightmechanic9368 3 года назад
From memory, I'm unsure exactly what tools will be required. If you wind this video till about 18 mins you will see how it's done on the 3008... I think the set up is exactly the same. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Nwed1A6NFok.html Hope this helps.

How often do you have to change the break pads and rotors? Any signs that they are worn enough for a change? It is ok to only change the front or rear brakes? Not all at the same time
@themidnightmechanic9368
@themidnightmechanic9368 2 года назад
Thank you for your question. The frequency depends largely on your style and type of driving. The more you use the brakes the quicker they wear out. A visual inspection would be the most common way to determine wether they need changed. The friction material on the brake pads could wearing thin for example. Some cars have sensors on brake pads which will bring on a warning light on the dashboard to alert you. It is perfectly normal to change one set only (either the front set or the rear). The front brakes on a car do most of the work so these will wear out quicker and need replaced more often. Hope this is helpful.

You made a terrible mistake if its the first generation. I owned one and it was on a tow truck on average one every 14 months or so. This car is terribly unreliable.

@@bou212 I'm not a big fan of French cars myself to be honest... I love my Ford transits! Lol I'm often asked, as a mechanic and motor trader, what car I'd recommend people buy.... the truth is they are all the same. They all break. They all need work at some point. Sometimes you get an unlucky run with a particular car and it puts you off the brand for life!... for me, I had a bad experience with a brand new fiat many years ago and I've never owned a fiat since! Can I ask where did ya jack car from! And did ya use axle stands
@themidnightmechanic9368
@themidnightmechanic9368 3 года назад
Thank you for your question! Personally, the only time I use axle stands is if I plan to be underneath the car. I have a couple of very large trolley jacks with rubber pads on them so i can jack up on the sill without damage... If you don't want to jack up from the sill them look for an alternative structural point capable of taking the weight of the vehicle... eg a suspension component. Each vehicle will be different so be careful where you choose to lift to avoid damage. If unsure, feel free to drop me a message.

Do you know how to change lockingmecanism on the front passenger door on a 3008-11?
@themidnightmechanic9368
@themidnightmechanic9368 3 года назад
It's not a job I've done on the 3008 before but most cars are pretty much the same. You need to remove the door card and you will see how it's connected to the lock/handles/etc. Unclip all that and remove any electrical plugs. Then on the other side on the lock will be some screws. Remove these and wiggle the lock out from.the inside. Hard to describe but when you remove the door card you will see how it all works.
@themidnightmechanic9368
@themidnightmechanic9368 3 года назад
Before you do anything actually, is the lock definitely failed?.... checked any fuses, wiring at the door hinges, etc? Test the easy stuff first.
