I learned about Coenzyme Q10 when I was in high school over 25 years ago. I was on the swim team and I also had asthma. I couldn’t go through a whole practice without stopping to use my inhaler. When I read about COQ10, I got some and took it before every practice. I not only didn’t need the inhaler, but I was able to work much harder in practice. It was a GODSEND!
As a dietitian with a master's in nutrition, I really appreciate the way you break things down in a scientific way and not just "bro science". I've tired several of your recommendations and I have to say, you have yet to disappoint. Thanks for all the info Thomas! Keep it up
I was calling BS on CoQ10. I saw some at walmart, it was cheap so i picked it up. I got the 400mg tablets. I took 1 tablet a day like it said. And it for sure works. No doubt.
More info. Every GNC in my area has closed due to covid. So i was at walmart looking for creatine, i had been out for over a week and was noticing a decline in my performance. Walmart did not have creatine so i got the CoQ10. I still cant find creatine, but CoQ10 FEELS like it has a similar effect to creatine (it's obviously different). I felt back to my normal strength and endurance literally the next day. This could be a coincidence because you know some weeks you just feel weak. But because i was expecting it to be BS i feel like this is not a placebo. Take this info for what it is.
@@TimHeang as this was 2 years ago that i said this, i don't remember the brand, but it was the dark semi transparent bottle, not the white one. I have since stopped taking CoQ10 and forgot that it existed until i got a notification saying you commented on me. It might help though.
Idk if it because of the CoQ10 but I do remember when I was taking it daily and exercising regularly I had insane results when it came to fat loss and lowering blood pressure. My blood pressure went from 160/106 to 136/90. Went from 215lbs to 189lbs (I’m 5”11) and waist measured from 38” to a 31”. And I was able to achieve this in about 5 months!!!
Hello, I am Ryan, I am about 299 pounds or 133 Kilos, & 5'8", I heard about this supplement from my Canadian Friend, I am wondering where to buy this, when I have money. I live, in Marseille, FRANCE.
@@dwightschrute6387 honestly I don’t even know the brand or how many milligrams it was. I just bought it at a grocery store. I’m think the brand was called nature made?
Been taking 150mg ubiquinol for the last month, and have now switched to 300mg. Found very little on recommended doses per day? I am 44, non-diabetic, levels all normal and been Keto protocol for 35 weeks. Feeling great, as I've dropped from close to 330 pounds to 271 in that time :). Thanks for the videos's Thomas DL !
I used to take this years ago.. But I stopped because I didn't even realize why I was taking it.. This explanation is great and the reason why I subscribed to this channel. I just dusted off the bottle with an expiration date of 2015. I probably bought this 10 years ago... Happy to think even 10 years ago I was on the right track.
I hope you throw that bottle away. If you take supplements that have become oxidized you are basically eating free radicals because they do oxidized overtime and become bad for you
I used to take CoQ10 daily but then it got so popular the priced literally increased by a factor of 10! So I stopped taking it about five years ago. The doctor who recommended it said it might help (might) with my small vessel disease. I diagnosed about 10 years ago. Sadly, stopping taking it may or may not have had an impact, as I had a great big stroke a couple of years ago. But then the damage I've done to my body in terms of food, is horrific. I can't blame anyone but myself and my own ignorance. I wish you had had a channel maybe 40 years ago (before the net!) :)
Susan O'Brien Look up Dr Esselstyn’s diet on youtube. He has proven a low fat, vegan diet, prevents and reverses heart disease. Also look up Dr Ornish vegan diet, and Dr Dougal vegan diet, who have also proven the same.

Can you get off bp meds by adding these blood pressure-lowering supplements & foods to a diet on someone with 1 kidney? Trying to show a family member they can ditch the medication in exchange for beet juice, l-theanine, less coffee, and maybe CoQ10
@@Roshea coq10, 300-500mg magnesium chloride or glycinate, 400mg potassium supplemented daily will correct high bp. If excessive potassium loss happens even while supplementing magnesium it’s because of thiamine/b1 so add that as well and all health issues will start to reverse. Coq10 and b1 work together within the mitochondria
Does this lower testosterone and dihytestosterone, I've read somewhere that it depletes the production of DHT, I wanted to take this but am afraid it might affect my DHT level
Hey Thomas. Dr. Berry put out some really interesting information on resistance starches based off of some experiments he did. I strongly feel( and I hope everyone else does as well) that you should do another video on some more detailed information on this matter. This is a very important matter and I hope your crew sees this comment as well. Again, it was Dr. Berry MD that did some tests on this and it could affect diabetics.
Thanks bud Another awesome and informative video Watching your videos has been helping me majorly with not just being healthy.. But also understanding what being healthy is all about and what is actually happening to my body when taking certain supplements or just in general. Cheers 🍻
Hey Thomas! I am 17 yrs old and try to watch all of your videos since you have so much knowledge about health and fitness. Can u please tell me if It’s ok for teens to fast? I run cross country and track for school.
Thomas this was a great video. I am looking to improve my over all performance and recovery. At 45 years old I do not bounce back like I did in my 20's. I have a bunch of questions for you. What is the best source for coenzymeQ10? If it better to get it from foods or a supplement? Also timing when is best to have coenzymeQ10? Finally you mention a little about mental improvement. Could you expand on this for me as this is one of the areas of the Ketogenic Lifestyle that I want to learn more about. Thanks and as always I'm locked into your channel!
@mathewengineri1003 Qunol brand (liquid) CoQ10 is best quality, best absorption at all Costco stores. Morning or afternoon is best ..Not evening bcuz youll get too much energy to sleep. Its a great product with amazing benefits
I've also read that it's good for controlling your high blood pressure instead of taking medication for it but it's hard to find what's the correct dosage I've read between 100 mg and 300 grams. Also the types I guess some types are better than others what are your thoughts on that?
Hi Thomas! Question: I've heard that ubiquinol is a more efficient supplement and would be preferred to taking CoQ10 because you are essentially skipping a step in the pathway (some people genetically might not be efficient at the conversion). Thoughts on preferences or dosages? Thx for all the videos!
Ingested ubiquinol is converted to ubiquinone in the stomach. It oxidizes there. So, you can asume that ingesting ubiquinol is a waste of money. But there is a catch because of the difference between ubiquinol and ubiquinone. Low quality ubiquinone is in powdered form or crystaline form. High quality ubiquinone is in soft gels and it was treated with heat and combined with oils, D-linonene, piperine ... Therefore high quality ubiquinone is more bioavailable (200x) than ubiquinol. So, ubiquinol is great, but high quality ubiquinone is the best. Keep it in the fridge and devide your doses thru the day.
Hey Thomas you ever think about doing a video dedicated to portion sizing of your meals!? I know most of us probably put way too much on our plates when eating... Thanks !! Love the channel 🤙
I have a weird issue where my blood pressure is high, my anxiety is high, I have low platelets and my nose inflames at night. Im only 25 and my dr thinks it's some disease. Would this be a good option to take to try to fight it?
@@zellerized nope. I have chronic pain and the fatigue to go with it. If I don't take it then I have huge issues trying to do anything. I am proof they work. Healthy people are so narrow minded aren't you
CoQ-10 supplementation is a huge controversial topic when we look for reliable results. A lot of biased science supporting it...some studies saying it is useless, others pointing that it can even aggravate some issues (aging). There are some few agreements, like Ubiquinol (the non-oxidized form of CoQ-10) is better absorbed than Ubiquinone (oxidized). Some manufacturers claim that additional nutrients can also help absorption (Fatty medium, Selenium, etc). Apparently it works well only for a very specific set of problems. .
Thanks Thomas for all of your informative videos. I have one question: 1- When we are fasting can we take CoQ10 and D-ribose? Do they spike insulin or not? I want to use these two supplements for getting more energy while I am fasting but I am doubtful that they break my fast or not?
No CoQ10 is pre much releasing atp in the mitochondria he mention it before but it's part of a cell so it can never spike insulin but it's a fat soluble therefore it's not taking on an empty stomache better when you break your fast highly recommended to eat with high fat food
I have heard different stories that these products in the stores don’t work as good unless you get it online which I’m sure is a scam, can I get this at GNC and any comments if this is a scam or not to get it online???
I have been losing muscles and energy since I started on statins in end 2019. I was in great shape before that. I am 82 years. Should I start on CoQ10. I have no BP problem and I never smoked.
Thomas another Great Video, Thanks. Could you please do a Video or Segment on Protein powder's ?? Would like to know what to drink after a Workout?? Thank you.
Hi Thomas. Thanks for the video. My husband and I came across a supplement that has 50mg ubiquinol CoQ10 and 10mg of PQQ. We tried the supplement but it raised our blood pressure too much. I am 40 years old and have been on Keto diet last two years. I never had any blood pressure problem in my life before. I was wondering if the supplement itself was the issue (which it has other ingredients: 150mg of Gynostemma extract and Tocotrienols) or the way we used was not proper. Thanks, Ozge.
@@veggiebea you're welcome. I bought on Amazon and later I saw few more people complained about the same issue. Other CoQ10 supplements on the market seem ok though, at least in terms of not rising the blood pressure.
Hey Thomas I’m really interested in intermittent fasting and getting started on 16:8... can you go into a little more detail on the best ways to break a fast besides bone broth... protein shake? Salad? I’m a little confused.
Hi Thomas. Thanks for your great content. Between advice from yourself & Dr Jason Fung, I’m seeing great results. I was wondering if “C8” MCT Oil is much superior to regular MCT oil. Some sources claim this but information seems scarce. What’s the difference between the 2? Thanks
+Barry Rice, having read Dr. Bruce Fife's book, [based on 175 Scientific Research Papers], MCT is composed of C8 & C10 (as opposed to straight coconut oil that has all fractions). Benefits here are that these (c8, c10), readily cross the blood brain barrier, hence why Bullet Proof coffee has a product...
I’m a CrossFit athlete at the age of 25. Im doing Keto and IF. Is it worth taking COQ10 at this age and with this lifestyle ? Are their any negative effects doing so with this lifestyle ?
Hi Thomas, love your content! I've been on Keto for almost 2 months but I still feel fatigued.. What am I doing wrong/not getting from my food? Thanks.
Ur missing something supplementally or not getting enough calories. Skinny dudes have a hard time on keto cuz the calories are very low with a full stomsch. Keto is tough for hard gainers
I have a mitochondrial disease... And q10 is probably one of the most important thing I take daily... With its new popularity, its so hard to track down a bottle of q10.... They have also hiked up the prices of the q10 due to the amount of people buying it. 😭😭😭😭
Any recommendations on how to take CoQ10? What are the best foods or best quality supplements to get more on a daily basis? As I age, energy and recovery from workouts are faltering.
Take CoQ10 preferably after a meal and since it is a fat soluble antioxidant you can take it with a "high fat meal" but it can go with any meal so don't overthink it. So long as you take it right after you've eaten you'll absorb it just fine. As for other supplements I recommend Omega 3s (unless you eat a lot of oily fish already such as Salmon and tuna), vitamin C in combo with vitamin D3, magnesium (post workout) and calcium (stand alone) unless you consume dairy then you should be okay with calcium....HAVING SAID THAT, remember getting your nutrients through food as much as possible is always the preferred source for micros unless you are on a type of macro restrictive diet (ie. keto, vegan, or low fat). When on a macro restrictive diet such as "low carb" then supplementation with vitamins becomes of higher importance due to the limitation of fruits and veggies. Same goes for low fat, as far as "healthy fats" go (which help in the production of some hormones). Hope that helps senorita.
D Thomas, do you have any recommended brands of CoQ10? I have been taking Qunol Mega Ubinquinol but they are only 100mg and I think you said 1250 mg was recommended. Also, do you recommend taking the ubiquinone or ubiquinol? Thank you for all the content you provide on your channel.
I guess you have to start with some basic science to start the discussion but this video had no usable specifics. For example, does it matter which form of CoQ10 is best for supplementation or is there no difference as long as you take more or less of one form. Can you get enough by diet?? How much supplementation is needed. Effect of statins, etc.
hjlevitt- Exactly Statins come into play for those on the med. Well basically, if you are on Statins it is best to supplement w/a CoQ10, since it is dimineshed (if not robbed) by Statins.
Thomas have you heard of Dr. Nun S. Amen Ra? If you havent you should look him up and could you PLEASE make a video about it🙏 i needdd someone who knows what they're talking about to look into his information!!
I use daily the RAW Coq10 200 from Garden of Life....and just hope i do something better to my SportslifeStyle as a vegan...nearly 50 years old...i just need any help to improve myself : )
Hi Thomas, I've been taking CoQ10 daily, but because I do intermittent fasting and keto, I take it with my dinner. But is it better to take it 30-45 min before my workout? My workouts are after work either at 5:30 pm or 6:30 pm.
How can we promote the generation of CoQ10 without having to rely on supplementation? Or in other words, is there any way for us to help stimulate our Mitochondria to be able to increase the production of it naturally?
This really gets my attention as I wrote a science cause and effect research on GMOs change our DNA which I received an A for my paper. This just confirms what I thought years ago.
Healing from long illness and trying to get energy to finish healing I try to eat healthier as I can budget looking for a good meal replacement for healing Do you have any good suggestions anyone
I take 400 mg a day of a liquid CoQ10, that study you mentioned used 1200mg a day...isn't that way too much? I can't find anyone who is recommending that dosage. How much do you recommend?
