In this video, I shall talk about a common question I receive in my weekly column In #Prajavani newspaper. The question is despite having good qualification like #engineering or other degrees, not getting a #job and hence unable to #settle down in #life.
Why does this happen and what can be done to get jobs after your education?
First let’s understand what does #employers #look for in a potential employee?
Having been part of recruitment process for a long-time, including in #TATA Group, here is what we look for in a #candidate.
Whether the person has the #knowledge, #skills and attitude necessary for the job?
Therefore, whether the person can do the job?
Importantly, does the person fit into the team or the #organization’s #culture?
How long does the person might take to get on top of the job?
How much #training is needed?
The first task of a person looking for employment is to make a appropriate and attractive resume or biodata. Here are some key details to include to make an effective biodata:
1. First: What are your long term career goals, which is also a likely question in a job interview
2. Second: Your qualifications and skill sets to apply the knowledge in a job. Please include both job oriented and primary skills.
3. Next include Experience, responsibilities and achievements. If you are a fresher, you can skip this part.
4. Fourth: Interests and hobbies must be genuine, representing your personality and not routinely. Be sincere in answe; because you may face questions on this part.
5. Fifth: Include your personal and contact details.
6. Six: If you are experienced, ensure not more than two pages and one page if you are a fresher.
7. Seven: In many organizations, a software processes the biodata shortlists. Use positive key words like Achievements, career, goals, objectives, responsibilities, awards, recognitions as necessary.
8. Lastly, Make the biodata look #professional by using standard fonts like Calibri, Verdana or Arial with a font size of 11 or 12. Avoid using capital or bold letters, underlining at too many places. You can use a light border or some other design aspect to help your biodata standout from the rest.

1. One. In a job interview recruiters can guage your personality in the first 30 seconds. You have to make a strong first impression by being confident and projecting a positive side of your personality.
2. Two. Complete preparation is the key for success. Collect information about the company’s vision, key people, business activities, market information, competition, income and profits etc. This makes you naturally confident.
3. Three. Anticipate questions in a interview and prepare with a logical and appropriate answers. The questions can be:
Tell us about yourself.
What do you know about our company?
What are your career goals and how would you achive?
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
What motivates you?
What skills do you think are needed to perform on this job?
Why do you want to join us?
4. Four. Understand the interviewing strategy. Usually interviewers ask an open ended question and ask related questions in a #funnel #technique. For instance, what are your hobbies is a simple, harmless question but can lead to a long array of questions.
5. Five. Be conscious of aggressive, pressurizing questions to test your personality. Handle such questions confidently to display the maturity in your personality.
6. Six. If you get an opportunity to ask questions, please ask intelligent questions about training, market challenges, customers feedback and individual growth prospects etc.
Let’s now understand what to do if you don’t succeed in getting a job.
First, ensure to have an effective biodata which gets you interview calls. So, if you are not getting interview calls, you know you got to relook at at your biodata.
If you are getting interviews but not succeeding, then you must do a self evaluation to identify areas of problem. If you lack primary or job oriented skills, take a short term course to update or get new skills.
Be open, transparent and sincere in your answers. If you are not, your body language will reveal the personality issues and will affect your performance in the interview.
