It was a panel interview and although it felt awkward I said, "I like the job, I think my job skills are a good match for the position and I hope you feel the same. Can I have the job?" All three interviewers cracked up laughing. Later that week, I got the offer. Thanks for your suggestion. I start Monday.
I could’ve still negotiate it when they called me back to offer me the job, but I went with the first offer because I really needed a job and it was more money than ever made ever in my life
I'm an introvert so job interviews are my kryptonite. I'm a nice guy and hard worker but am just awful at verbalising it. Keep going all. God loves you.
I so felt this! Good luck to us exceptional introverted people! We totally rock and over exceed expectations! If we could just convey verbally. It’s ok we are so awesome! Those who take a little extra time with us surly love us !
Sorry, but there is a difference between not liking crowds and having trouble speaking to strangers. Actual introverts will thank you to find a better term to describe your perceived disability.
@@johnd5398 yeh you do have a point john. To elaborate I guess I should say I tend to lean towards anxious introspective introversion. So while it isn't predominantly introversion by itself that I find hard being myself around strangers, it can play a role. As for comment...ever heard of "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar"? Just sayn😉
same here, interviews can't tell our true value, it sometimes screen out those capable and honest people, and sometimes those dishonest yet good at speaking get the job.
I did an interview in the UK just after seeing this video, and at the end, I asked for the job, the interviewer loved it, and said he'll push me through. I got the job :) Thanks
Glad that worked for you. I tried it with a UK interviewer and he was offended and told me so. Just goes to show people are people and there’s always individual takes.
I just found this video but wanted to say: I went through school, took many tests, had to go through 5 different interviews with 4 different supervisors at each interview to get a job at a Chevron refinery. The coveted job is high paying so I worked very hard to get to the interview. During the last of the 5 interview's they asked me if I had any questions for them, I said yes, can I please have the job? I am here to work hard so I can put my children through college and build a retirement for myself. (I mentioned a few other things and said: thank you for your consideration, shook each one of their hands and also thanked each one for their time.) I GOT THE JOB OUT OF OVER 3000 APPLICANTS. It works!!!! Just ask for the job. :)
that is an amazing story. thank you so much for sharing. I hope that those who are skeptical of asking will find the strength and courage to be like you.
I’m in a similar situation with Honeywell over 500 applicants gonna give this a try. I’m a very personable person with a gift of gab if you will. I’m a team player looking to transition from the military world to a civilian career. I feel very fortunate to be given the opportunity to even interview for the job. I’m really happy I came across his channel. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW CAREER WISH YOU THE BEST!
HAHA How that happen? I was told this is a very competitive place, we will contact you. NO CONTACT STILL!!! Hook me up!! I want to work for Cheveron, I got engineering experience
@@chevychick537 absolutely I’ve got my NRC security clearance I start June 26 35 an hour top out at 45. Very fortunate! After an online interview then a phone interview then 2 panel interviews I made it! I work at the only Uranium Hexafluoride plant in the United States as a Nuclear Chemical Operator.
In case you're desperately looking for advice and don't have time for a 13+ minute video like I was this morning. "Can I have the job?" or "So, when can I start?" are the five words in question.
I disagree. “When can i start” is presumptuous. You haven’t gotten past the part where you’re asking for the job. Perhaps watching the video could help?
I think those missing the point, are those that cannot read people and are probably disgruntled by ‘going in for the kiss’ while their date wasn’t vibing. In the reverse, if you’re the hiring manager and someone who you didn’t build rapport or seemed to not be a good fit and they asked you for the job, that only further proves people who can’t read the room wouldn’t have been an easy personality to hire. I’ve never been turned down for a job I actually wanted and therefore asked for.
“Can I get the job?” Def works. In my case I asked instead, “can I get the 2nd interview?”. I was interviewed by a panel with 5 interviewers. Once I asked the question in a jokingly but serious way, they all chuckled saying they love that I asked. That same day 3 hours later, I was offered the second interview! Wish Me luck!
Wow! I've been saying "So when do I start?" for the past decade for jobs I really wanted. I was hired on all of the ones I asked the question. I never correlated that until today.
Has anyone tried this? My feeling is most of the time the interviewer would answer "We're still interviewing / reviewing other candidates. We'll let you know asap if you are selected / shortlisted for the job". Unless of course you did exceptionally well and dropped their jaws
I listened to a bunch of your videos before my last interview and I did MUCH better than I had during the past year of unemployment. I’m expecting to hear I got into the next round next week. If that comes true I’m definitely doing this. I want to share that I used the question “imagining me in this position what would you expect me to accomplish in the first six months in the job?” The panel LOVED the question and took about ten minutes to answer it. One of the panelists at the end said that he would welcome working with me. And then after my thank you note he said he welcomed my application. That’s never happened to me before.
Covid killed my last job so I was back out hunting. Applied for a job I thought I would never even get called for. During the first interview the manager asked why should you get this job before any of the other applicants. I said because I will show up every day and on time. Apparently that struck a nerve because I got a call back only two days later and in that interview was offered the job. I work in a field I've never worked in before. A very secure position with good pay.
I'm a trainer at work. Operating semi's And specialty trailers in and out of railroads and heavy industrial plants. You need to already know how to drive a truck. I'll teach you the rest. Paperwork abounds in my field. One load of Kosher Food Grade Hazmat. Could have 2 inch's of paperwork with it. So many refuse to let me show them the equipment. Or paperwork They say. When do I drive and why do I need to know this. Or a better one night before I'll say truck checkin is at 3 am the load has a 7 am appointment 3 hours away. We get 10 hrs off between shifts. 1/2 are a no-show. I fire those like that all the time.
I wanted to say thank you for getting me through my 4 interviews!! I interviewed with a supervisor, Manager, Director and Senior Director!! I was competing against another candidate that was more qualified and had a certificate that I did not have. I smiled throughout, I was energetic, I answered all the questions with your advices, and kept speaking as I was already in the role. I was told in secret that the other candidate was way more qualified and the reason they chose me was because I was very personable and they could see me fit in in their team!! I'm definitely excited to start my new role and after knowing the why, I'm coming in with more excitement to be myself because they liked me for me! I just have to learn their job process. Thank you so much!!! I've forwarded your videos to my 18 year old sister who has never worked in her life! I hope she can find the great value you give us all!!! If you're job hunting or officially interviewing, I'm sending you nothing but great vibes! You got this!! Happy holidays!
They likely picked you 'cause without qualifications or experience, the company knows you'll accept a lower pay rate than the industry standard & less likely you'll ask for a raise anytime soon (qualified candidates knows to ask after 6 months or can easily leave taking their qualifications to another company if not satisfied). I should know 'cause I've been in HR for 20 plus years & the more eager a candidate willing to learn on the job without formal educational background or experience, the better chance of getting the job offer since these (green) canadates are seen as more likely to accept a lower salary, be more loyal & (sorry to say) easier to manipulate. We pass up qualified candidates, not because we didn't see them as a good fit, but because they knew with their experience & qualifications, their self-worth & know how much they should be earning. Sorry, but in 99% of the time, it comes down to the bottom line & who is willing to work the hardest with the least amount of pay. Companies likes to have the upper hand & employees who see them as giving them a chance not the other way around, the employee bringing skills & value to the company. It also helps to be good-looking. Just remember, your job is not your friend nor your co-workers. You would be surprised how many employees throws other colleagues under the bus when it comes down to the job. Be professional, always know your self-worth, move up early into your employment (the longer you stay in a position, the more likely you will be passed up for promotions, don't be shy to ask for a raise especially after a performance review, if no review, ask for one after 6 months...if denied, start seeking employment elsewhere) & never put your complete trust in your employer....you are just a number with an expiry date just make sure you get noticed early on & ignore jealous colleagues that will try to find ways to block you from getting promoted. Never ever complain to your colleagues (they are not your friend & some will report you), manager or HR, you'll be seen as a disgruntled employee that will be likely blacklisted for promotions & most likely the first to be let go if need be. If you are not happy, seek employment elsewhere.....your job will not be tailored to you, but no company owns you even if they think they do. Many don't care about their employees & gets enjoyment making their employees' life as miserable as possible knowing they sign their paychecks. Many don't care about you, but how much money you are making for them. Good luck👍
@@juki3451 wow! That's all I can say to you, wow! But so NOT TRUE! I GOT A JOB THAT OTHER CANIDATES WERE MORE QUALIFIED FOR, GOT THE JOB WITH NOT JUST LESS EXPERIENCE, BUT DIDNT HAVE AS MUCH QUAILIFICATIONS AS OTHERS. MADE JUST WHAT THEY INITIALLY offered all of us!
Don, I'm 54 years old and retrained for a new career after continual layoffs in the aviation sector. I watched many of your videos, and in an interview with a company I really liked, said: "Given what I've heard and read about the company, and based on this meeting, I want to make it clear that I want to work with you; you are my first choice." I got the job.
After a decent in-person interview back in 2007, as I was shaking the interviewers' hands I said, "So, when can I start." I agree with that statement. They would have hired me on the spot but had to go through the right "channels" to make it happen. Great advice!
"So when can I start?" I really like that. It asserts that you feel you're a good fit for the job, confidence, yet still has that necessary level of respect.
@@TechnoMageB5 I've tried that technique at 6 different employers. It worked 5 times out of the 6 times. Highly recommended. Also, I tried this technique as it's quite similar; I asked the employer after working my way through the interview and feeling them out I said, "would you like for me to give my current employer a proper 2 week notice?" That was successful as well
Thank You!!! It worked!!! I had an interview today and at the end when they asked if I had any questions I said the 5 magic words. They laughed showed me around and 3 hours later I had an offer e-mail!!!
I have an interview tomorrow and youtube recommended this to me. I hope I do well and I will surely use these tips. Thank you for this wonderful video. Update: I got the job and now I'm on my first week of training.. Really a great way to start this new year.. 😊
This is mind blowing. Thank you I was raised Canadian and we were always told to be polite, not assertive. But this makes sense if you really want something bad enough, you’d want enough to ask for it.
Hi Don, thank you for all your content. As a career changer who hasn’t had to interview in 4 years, it has been a tremendous help. I wanted to let you know that this worked for me! I had my final interview with the president of the organization on Friday. My last question was asking for the job. He chuckled and let me know that I was the last interviewer and they’d get back to me within a week. On Monday I got the job offer! After being on pins and needles throughout this 2 month interviewing process, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. I’m so glad I am on your email list because I received an email a day before my interview with this helpful tip. I can’t thank you enough!
Thank you for what you do. I'm 66 and was laid off from my IT job after 21 years at the end of July. I watched hours of your videos (and those of others) and worked my butt off and started my new job in early September. So a one-month forced vacation. The new job is a lot harder, not as comfortable, but it is an opportunity and I'm taking it. Anyway, your videos are encouraging, helpful, insightful, and very much needed for those of us who need another shot at getting a job. A few days after the second interview for this job they made an offer. I had already scheduled a third interview later that day with a different company. This one seemed like a better fit even though the pay is a bit lower. I called the other people and scrubbed the third interview. No regrets. By the way, I plan to retire a month after I die if I can fit it into my schedule.
A month after you die? Not sure if that's a typo or a, funny statement. I worked in I.T. for 34 years. 22 at the place where i was laid off. Frankly they could've fired me way before that. I had Extreme burnout and was not the best employee even though I wish i was. I didn't give up but sometimes it seemed like quitting with notice would have been the more correct thing to do. But I had to keep doing my best and showing up for my kids That was 3 years ago and I have used my time since then for a lot of good things. Mostly supporting people by using my time to be helpful and care giving and also I put getting my rest and regrouping first. During my 34 years of employment I worked at least 40 hours a week and sonetimes 2 or 3 jobs and had no real vacation. Raised my children and maintained a home almost completely on my own. For me, in 2019, when I was laid off i decided to take my retirement out of the middle. When I go back to work, I'm working until I die unless I get too old to work. Taking my family history into consideration, my chances of getting old are slim. It was important to me to rest up to be the best I can be in my next employment. Also to know what its like to not have to punch a clock for more tha 2 days at a time before I die. I'm set. I've retired and returned from my rest. I am ready to go back to work. The world has changed so much since 2019, I'm wanting to make a more positive contribution to the world on part 2 of my life. I wonder if it will be possible to get another I.T.position and if I can do better than i did before. More importantly than money is being a valuable asset. I hope I get the chance.
I interviewed for a job at General Electric with two managers. They asked their questions, I took the math test, and read the blue print for them. They asked if I had any questions for them, and I of course said yes, my question was “when do I start” They smiled and said when can you start? I started 2 weeks later after giving a two weeks notice to my former employer!
Your videos are amazing help. I was so overprepaired from my interview. Was a walk in the park. Even all the "hard questions" .I got the Job i wanted on the first try. Brilliant stuff. The 30 question video aswell. Great work Sir!
So I just had a really good interview last week, felt good at the end, she asked if I had any questions and with enthusiasm asked “ YA! Can I have this job?!? Semi jokingly of course, and I got a call back within the hour for a 3rd interview. It was pretty funny and it worked. Also wanted to thank you for your tips it was very helpful
It's funny 🤣 I did it too. I said 'Can I work here?' Then, I received their training schedule. A full time job, average paid, but it's helped me through the pandemic for paying my bills. Still working now 😁
I’ve had interviewees ask me “Is there anything that concerns you about offering me the job?” This has worked quite well. At the very least, I provided feedback about answers I didn’t like. it gave them the chance to better explain or understand why they’re not a good fit for the position.
I wish I had asked that question in my phone interview...I didnt get the job and have no idea why...t was with Walmart and I don't know anyone that failed an interview at Walmart..it has really made me feel terrible about myself
@@raintree3383 Don’t let it get you down. Trust me I know the feeling especially when you never get an explanation. To be honest it could’ve been something as trivial as availability or they had already had a candidate picked but had to go through the rest of the scheduled interviews anyway. Just take it as a learning experience and use it to help you in your next interview
Rain tree, I agree with Jacob. Even with teachers shortages, I got a lot of interviews, I watched other videos, and felt many of the interviews went well. But never got an offer. It was discouraging but now know that lots of somewhat random things can happen that results in no job offer and/or no follow up communication after an interview than one might think. Keep your head up, keep practicing, watching videos, researching relevant companies. Eventually I used these tips and my interviews improved resulting in several job offers out of 10-15 interviews. P
The only problem I would see is that many interviewers will lie if you ask something like that. I've asked something very similar, but they told me they didn't have concerns.
2 years ago, I was selected for the current job position I am in. I followed your advice to a 't.' I am currently looking for the next step to my ultimate job in IT. Thanks for the great content.
I love that someone such as yourself made a video for this. It's not complicated by any means, but I think people build it up more than it should be. Anyone can wow the interviewer during their time, but having that confidence is usually what edges out your interview over the others. I've been interviewing the last few weeks and I can wholeheartedly say this works people. Of course I did my homework prior and did what was needed to put forth an amazing interview, but in all of them I'd close with thanking them for their time, touching back on small buzz words to keep me in mind with my qualities and so on, and then I'd end it with "So, when can I start?" I might not have had immediate responses of you're hired, but no joke, 2 of the 3 times I got a call back with an offer on my drive home! Anyway, I wish all of you the best of luck landing that job you've always wanted :-)
Well said Don, this man just oozes wisdom. I'm a go getter type of person I've had many opportunities turn me away.. I can whole heartily say this, I was so proactive 10 doors closed 1 opened that's all I needed. Speak up for yourselves folks, it's okay to tell the world what you want.
Thank you Don for helping me prepare for my claims manager interview! It went amazingly well and I expect good news from them sometime next week. *I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO BINGE WATCH HIS VIDEOS PRIOR TO AN INTERVIEW*
this something that bever crossed my mind. I am going to try this during my next interview. It is so obvious that I would have never thought about doing this.
I can honestly say this is how I got my last maintenance job. The operations manager and I just hit it off while taking a tour of the plant. I was really excited to work on the equipment and machines on the production line. He showed me a problem they were having, that I knew I could solve quickly, and said I'll be in on Monday with my tools to fix this. I left this interview with all of the new hire paperwork.
This is great advice. I’m over 50 and sent out over 400 resumes. When I get a single interview, I’ll let you know. At my current pace. It should be 10 years before I get 10 interviews.
I've been watching a lot of videos that you've done and it really helped me and with your help I've found the job been there a week and a half and that time I've learned a lot even got a forklift license thank you for all the help. I was out of work for almost 2 years so it's been hard to get back into a working state but I'm improving everyday I work with two good guys and patient with me
I worked with a woman who moved to New York City to be an artist. It was her dream and she has just enough money to land a job within a month. If she didn’t get a job she would have to move back to her hometown. It got down to the final day and no one had hired her. The people she was meeting were brash and to the point. She was desperate and had nothing to lose so she went into a bookstore and asked the owner if he was hiring. He was giving her a bit of a runaround so she yelled at him, “I need a f*cking job! Are you going to hire me or not?! He handed her a plié of books and yelled back, “Take those f*cking books back to that f*cking bookshelf shelf and stack them! You’re f*cking hired.”
I have asked that question at every single job interview since my 1st job and I have ALWAYS GOT THE JOB offer after an interview (my grandfather told me to do it)...I just have a hard time to GET an interview. I have a weird foreign name, im 57, and with foreign (Hungarian) education. Cant change my name, cuz it cost over $2000 to do that on my greencard and I dont have 2K. BUT the "asking for the job" or asking "well, when can I start? " (Big smile) always does it! Never not one interviewer could stop laughing out aloud :)
I just wanted to say thank you for your advice . I lost my 17 year job a month ago , it was hard for me because I always had a great performance and the last year all I heard was blaming from management for everything from very silly things to things that other people was responsible . I ended up getting fired for performance . But a week ago I started looking for jobs that have something close to my background in retail and merchandising . 17 years it’s a long time and scary to find something after getting fired. Yesterday I got a call for interview and I didn’t know how to prepare for it . Desperate I started looking for videos luckily i found yours . I got hired on the spot . Main question was tell me about yourself ? I nailed it!! Thank you so much for the advice again .
My first time seeing your video and you are absolutely correct. I interviewed for a job I didn’t even want but the interviewer was nice. I got in sync with her and she told me she liked my spunk and seriousness for this case management position. I was interviewing for a lower position and she offered me the better position more money etc. ingot the job. Your right.
It works! I saw a couple of your videos yesterday and then went to an interview today. I was more authentic than I might have been (thanks to your tip); I took initiative speaking "their" language (felt risky but they ate it up); and at the end, knowing we had great rapport, I actually said, "I want this job." They were briefly taken aback and then lit up: they bent over backwards holding my hands to be onboarded...getting started in a job in which I'm projected to earn four times(!) my previous income as a poker dealer!
My 16yr daughter and I will be watching this video together, she's job hunting now. Thank you so much for your service! I took a job interviewing class years ago and I learned more in 5 minutes of this video than I did in a whole day. You have the Nuance for this...
Don, I"m new to your channel. I have an interview (phone screening) on Tuesday. I already feel more comfortable about it after having watched 3 of your videos. Thanks! And by the way: you have great authenticity and eye contact. (Also, thanks for using almost no "ummmmm" or "uhhhhhh" in your presentations.) I especially like your phrase, "in rapport with the person."
Dear Don, I wanted to thank you for your videos. I went through a 4 stage process interview and your videos have helped me a lot. I got the offer and contract two days ago. You have helped me preparing, anticipate questions, be confident Thank you so much 🙏
I played your videos back to back whether I was in front watching. or just in the back for listening. I wrote notes and I took screenshots and I applied everything I learned for my interview. I landed the job in my 2nd interview!!! I'm so excited! I treated it like a meeting. I made sure to make them feel special in that I let them know I researched their backgrounds that related to the job. I actually also had a physical prop of a color of mug that is part of their logo. I made sure that I added 'me' or 'I' to a question of a daily task in their line of work. I instilled that I would make a great fit to the role and why. We were holding hands by the end of interview and I let them know it was my job! I got an offer 4.5hrs later!! Unheard of. TY!!!
In watching these videos I realize that before I got my last job that I loved I watched similar videos to freshen myself up and my skills. These videos really help me have a better understanding of how to communicate my skills to potential employers.
I saw this video 2 days ago, in preparation for a job interview that I was having today. And guess? I used this 5 words at the end of it. And I got the job!!! Thank you ! Thank you ! Thank you!!!
I had a job interview recently and I think it went pretty well. I asked 4 questions and and the 5th one I took the risk and asked can I have the Job. The interviewer Laughed lightly in surprise and said, " I can't give you an answer to that yet but we may have an answer for you by the end of the week." In fact they added if we can't hire you for this role I think we may be able to have you join another team 🤷🏿♂️. So yeah wish me luck, I'm expecting an update tomorrow. I hope I haven't messed up my chances by this question... I left it to last and mentioned that this is a bit of a cheeky question but I have to ask 😅. I think they liked that about me.
@@DonGeorgevich I thought I might update you with the news. I applied for for an entry level Digital Marketing job, they liked me at me first but thought that I wasn't experienced enough to handle a big client campaign. They did however offer me to go on another campaign and go through another set of interviews. Long story short, I got the Job, and I asked "Can I have the Job" once in my initial interview, didn't get that one but they still offered me the same role/salary for a different campaign. So I guess these 5 words have worked.
By the way, I am European so actually we do things differently - but you never know and gobally minded people will give it a try!! So I will go for it!
I've never interviewed, and not been offered the position. My advice is 1. Have a great, and truthful, CV. 2. Dress well 3. Be confident 4. Know your value 5. Research the company
I had two interviews and the last one was between me and another person, beside the rapport and examples of my work, I closed with asking for the job. The three on the panel smiled and looked and other and I broke that saying I look forward to moving on in the process. I got the position the next day.
I have an interview this week, and if things go good, I will try this. My bigger. Concern is asking for salary. I just started watching your videos, but good stuff. Appreciate what your doing. Thanks alot.
I used the phrase "If you have the work, _I'll do it."_ It was at the end with the senior manager who asked to see me after the two engineers I started the interview with. It might not be the exact verbiage for every interview but I'm in a stereotypically 'manly' (for lack of a better term) Field Engineer position. I got a GREAT offer... great idea, Don.
Wow, I never thought this was possible! I've had those moments! The last one the recruiter touched based with me the next day. I told him I would be surprised if they didn't offer me the job. They told me they would let me know in a week. He called same day and confirmed!
Can I have the Job? These 5 words should be delivered with profound sincerity. Been working for over 30 years in manufacturing industry, this is first time to learn these words. Thank you so much for sharing, and I will use this for my incoming interviews.
Excellent thanks for this great video and also the free e-book. I watched it last night and also watched the 16 minute video about your $47 program and took a lot of notes. I prepared a 1 page sheet to get me the job today. Amazing material. I've had many jobs over many decades and your material has some real good stuff about interviews.
I love you Don! These videos put a smile on my face and give me hope. This is amazing advice and I love your analogies of going in a first date. I have been self employed for most of my working experience and have failed at all of my interviews, but I also know that failure is the greatest teacher. I will commit to bettering myself with vids like yours!
Retired after a wonderful career in the chemical industry with various companies. During the final interview process my last interview was usually with the CEO or President. They would always ask this famous question,”where do you see yourself in five years with our company”. I would pause for one second, look them in the eye and say, “sitting at your desk” running this company, with all do respect sir. I know I have the drive and talent to be successful at this company! I would then stand up, shake his hand, thank him for his time and courtesy, and walk out the door. Never, ever failed me. PS. Always be super courteous to the receptionist on the way in and out of the office. It’s amazing how much influence these people have on the hiring process.
I had interviewed with a company years before, they remembered me from years ago. I said the reason I am back is because I KNOW I can do this job and I want to do this job. I was being honest, really liked what they were doing. Never heard back. I gave up on that company because obviously they had some kind of bias that I wasn't privy to.
Are you kidding me? So after applying to a job wading through the phone screen process, a video interview, then finally an in person interview, invested multiple days into this, as a recruiter, you still need the person to give you one last indication that they’re interested in the job?! If you still need that, then I don’t want to work there.
Or you can say "How soon can I start?". It's kinda effective based on my experience. This question/statement shows your interest/positive mindset that you can do the job.
This is spot on - I was a manager of consulting services at a boutique consulting firm and recommended that approach to my consultants - it worked for me and I think it made the difference for some of my applicants - key was hitting it off with the interviewer. For me one memorable situation was where I sat down with the hiring manager and at the beginning of the interview I noticed a picture of the manager with his motorcycle - I mentioned it and noted that I rode too and we had a long conversation about riding... We had a nice conversation and at the end I commented that I thought that I was well suited for the requirements of the position and that I would be excited to work with him - he responded with the question regarding my ability to do the job and I responded positively and asked him for the opportunity to prove myself - end of story I started the job a week later and was highly successful in the position.
This makes so much sense I said this for the first time for my current job over Teams. The interview went so Good we stopped taking about the interview and started talking cracking jokes laughing. The HR and the previous person in the position said the search is over but politics have to make us wait till Tuesday. Hahaha
Very good presentation and I have watched some other videos and I like what you say. Most of it is very useful advice, presented with no bull and that appeals to me. This is American production and indeed most of your theory will work great in the US. But - for those watching from Europe, they need to be careful. Some things you may see or do that are acceptable in the US might be a no-goner in, say, UK or Italy. Given my age and experience, I can now identify what type of person is interviewing me and I can adapt my response to them. Something that took time to master. But it is very important. The way you reply and conclude with an avant-garde IT company interview may be very different from what you say or do during an interview with a conservative family owned company that's been in the family for a century. Even what clothes you wear. So yes, these five words will work, but you got to be careful when to use them and when to use words like "I like your company and you have made me feel good in the interview - It would be a pleasure working for you. When do you expect to let me know if I've been successful?" I've subscribed. And shared on Linkedin. Cheers from Malta.
I NEVER thought of doing this because I'd expect this response: *Laughs* Thank you for your enthusiasm yet we still have candidates to interview. I guess I'll just go in for the kiss. LOL
Hey Don I'm in Cleveland OH as well and work for 1 of the 3 largest companies in Northeast OH. Applying for my first director position and will definitely do this in the interview with the hiring Business Leader. Thank You
I remember in the interview for my current job I said jokingly "I can start as early as tomorrow!" when they asked when the earliest I'm available is, and I ended up getting it and started 2 days later. My coworkers still say it's good to finally have a new person who didn't quit shortly after starting, haha. It also helps they were fairly desperate for staff it seems, I've seen 5-6 people come and go since I started.
Guess wa?😂😂I did ask the five words question and my 3 interviewers bursted into laughter 😂😂😂....well after a week I was called and offered the Job! 😅😅...saying they could see how passionate I was...... But honestly I battled with myself before I could ask the question cos I 🤔 C'mon I don't loose nothing not asking so why not🤷😅😅 and it worked!! Thank you so much🤗.and God bless U🙏
The way I got a job I really wanted, which I am in now, was when I interviewed, I would constantly ask what the next step was. This was for a management position. After the second interview, I told them I really wanted the job. I had also interviewed for a plan B job. I got the offer from the plan B job before the position I wanted. I called the interviewer and said I have an offer on the table, but this position is what I really want. They hired me.
I did this and didn't get the job, but I agree it doesn't hurt to ask for the job on the spot. Normally they tell me that they're interviewing several candidates and that they'll make a decision shortly. But I agree it shows a level of eagerness that they find favorable.
Don’t ask “can I have the job?!” It’s so unprofessional. Ask how soon do you need the position filled, and express your interest that way!!! Soooooo unprofessional to ask can I have the job so tacky
"Can I have the job?" LOL, it's SO bloody simple! Us humans tend to over-complicate things for ourselves without reason, be it making unnecessary complex washing machines or just not asking simple questions when needed (something I've done TOO many times over). I've had a few job rejections these past few months and actually gave up on a job position even when I managed to pass the interview with flying colours (I honestly felt I couldn't keep up with physical aspect of the job). Because of these failures, I'm stuck in a rut and feeling down on myself due to lack of personal progress. I don't know how to motivate myself when I'm currently lacking basic skills (communication has been the number 1 problem for years, I've lost the ability to forge relationships with people). I'm in my 30s and still never had a full-time job. To be honest, I'm kinda scared about it... I know I can't carry on like this (my funds are running down) but I'm quite nervous about what to do.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I got hired working from home using your techniques, along with asking if I could have the job at the end of the virtual interview. The interviewer was so impressed with me asking for the job, that she emailed my offer letter right after speaking with me. THANKS! 🤗❤
Hey Don, your videos are full of great information. Question, I always feel uncomfortable about glancing at my notes or jotting information down, almost like I would be insulting the interviewer. But from watching and listening to you make reference to it quite often. Is it just me, just do it and I can do this even in zoom/video interviews? Thanks again.
Working up to this close is essential and it requires a strong performance during the interview process itself. I like to ask them what they are looking for. They will usually give you three or four characteristics. Now you know what they want and have ammunition. Later address each one with qualified examples of how you meet their criteria. This not only demonstrates your suitability but also shows you are listening. Then close.
Great question. And it gives you more ammo for your closing statement. Telling them you're on the same page as them with what they expect in detail out of their employee in the next 6 months is bound to set you apart.
