I weep at the passing of most of these giants. I m pleased to personally know Howard who, by the way, just turned 94 and is still sharp as a tack (mentally). Hang in there Howard. . .

Greeting to all you "old dudes". I lived right down the street from the Lighthouse for many years; it was my home away from home. Some high-powered talent went through that little club. One of my favorites was Gerald Wilson's band. Actually, John Levine owned it and Howard managed it. John turned it over to his son and it went rapidly down-hill then Howard started Concerts by the Sea on the Redondo Pier (where all the shops were).

I too frequented The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach in the 60's and saw/heard so many jazz greats. I'm glad these clips from Frankly Jazz exist to take me back to that time. The artists and their music are legendary.

It's just amazing - never even heard of Bobby Bryant and he's got all the technique & chops of Fats or Dizzy. I thought it was Freddie Hubbard too!

@dirtyguitarplayer610 "Who is in the band?" Looks to me like Howard Rumsey of course on bass, Bob Cooper on tenor sax, looks like Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, gee can't quite place the drummer or pianist. man it's good to see old Howard again-he once complimented me and a trumpet player on how well we'd done exchanges, when I played there on tenor as a teenager, with the Santa Monica Srenaders Dance Band, circa 1963.
