Some people just go on too long. He should have stopped 20 years ago and held onto his legendary status and respect. Now he'll be remembered as a sell out for all time.
I've got DC 101 tapes too ! I used to record them as I was getting ready for school. One morning I actually got through and asked if he looked anything like Alan Alda because I thought he sounded like Alda and back then it was hard to find pics of dj's unless you went to their remotes and such, which I never did get the chance. The DC run was the best era of Stern. Stern never needed Jackie or Artie.
It was snowing like crazy that day. I was working in Arlington Va, and between the snow, and the plane crash, traffic was stopped. I heard of the crash, parked, and walked to the scene of the crash, and got as close as I was able. I didn't realize at the time those were the good old days.
I was in 7th grade. I listened to his show on my bros stereo on the basement, with the headphones on. I said I was going down there to get my clothes out of the dryer for school. Beaver Break and Gayligan's Island were juvenile bits that I loved because I was 12 years old. Howard's success for a long time was based on his ability to suck in listeners with juvenile humor
I remember getting up one morning in my old apartment in Washington I turned on DC 101 on the radio to listen to while getting ready for work. I wanted to hear The Police and Rush and stuff and then this cat came on talking all this goofy stuff that I did not expect .that was a bummer at the time.....I later became accustomed to what he was doing and enjoyed it..
Wow, Robin really sounded like a broadcaster reading the news back in the day. It's funny hearing Stern do a show that's closer to a more traditional "Morning Zoo" style format.
Haha, I was in Jr High in Manassas then, and used to listen to Howard every morning when I got ready for school. Some confusion on whether I had a snow day -- Robin said Prince William County schools were closed, but Manassas schools started 2 hours late. My dad had to commute over the bridge that the plane hit, and was absolutely furious at Howard for making that joke.
@@CheapJabroni he/she can say whatever they want if that's their personal opinion of the show. Perhaps it was a good time in their life, and this show enhanced it. Perhaps this show was their escape from a life they hated living. There's a lot more to a radio show like Howard's than the content.
Well you can’t expect an old guy to still act like he’s in his 20s. People change over the decades and it might be shocking to some but this also happens to celebrities.
It's ok to change. Perfectly acceptable but he acts as if he has always taken the high road, morally speaking. He's a hypocrite and tries to combat the culture he helped create. I think he still does the show because he's paid out millions over the years especially recent years. When I say paid I mean in bribe money to prevent his cancellation and to uphold his reputation. Considering the political climate now, it's impossible that he hasn't paid his way to safety because he did every racial form of comedy in the book including blackface and the n word. He consistently ridiculed black culture every time he ad a black guest on throughout the nineties. He also went super hard on the gay community many, many times. He was also a huge exploited of women and very misogynistic. I never agreed with a good portion of his humor as well as his politics but always appreciated the show overall. He used to be a huge patriot too and so wasn't Robin. They make me sick now and only because they are exempt while so many others have been exiled for much less.
@@tbx59 If you think the show that the 70 year old billionaire is putting out is just as good as early Sirius, KROCK, or anything in the West era then you're a first class moron.
this was the time when he stuck to the format all dj's had to constantly give the time...especially for morning drive some study showed that if you didnt give the time, the listener would switch to a station that did
@@HoosierGarage true, but the early 1900s all the way through the 1990s were the days of pocket watches/wrist watches and were really cool and part of your style and wardrobe. Unlike these childish lame digital smart watches. I'll take a 1980s Casio Octagon/sort of square shaped watch over a smart watch any day!!
Ft Meade. I listened every day! I remember it wasn't too long after this that he left DC 101 and was replaced by the Grease Man. The golden age of shock jock radio!
Hm. Very interesting. Good old Radio Station. DC 101. Great Radio Station. And I can still remember the one and only Howard Stern and The one and only Grease Man. Precious Memories. God Bless.
Dog!!! That picture!!! Total Awesomeness!!! Almost makes me love good old Stern again... what happen to him!?!?!? a hero to so many, then a sellout to so many... sign of the times... seems to happen all the time... some kind of duality or mirror world type "spell" commonly and expertly cast by The Mainstream engineers many times over with many characters over... wierd world I tell you... a distorted and twisted mirror world... 😱😱😱
And this stuff is extra cool because they actually had to do real radio... I remember this because I was about 11 to 14 years old during this time... from Virginia, about 80 miles from Washington D.C., where this is being broadcasted from... D.C. 101 was the go to rock station in the land... and Manassas was where the best mall was!!! Hearing Robin give an actual live local newscast really brought me back... and it made the awesomeness of this video, EPIC... 👍😎👍
He actually called Air Florida and asked if the 14th St Bridge in Washington DC where the plane plunged was going to be a regular stop for them from then on.
It's funny.... Howard back then as an outsider rebel always maDe fun of the pretentious...self absorbed duchie celebrities. And today he is actually one of them!! What happened Howie? I used to dig you.
Do you think a guy who is almost 70 can do the same jokes and show.He really didn't sell out he just basically does an interview show now.I almost wish he retired 10 years ago and did a regular interview show
