He came along at a time when audiences were looking for something like this. It was the times. He was unique. His jokes got better and on Johnny Carson, he made some hilarious appearances. But yeah, I know Howie in the right order. If you only know him in reverse order its going to be a shock watching this. But he was so crazy he was the type of guy you wondered if he could ever survive as an adult. He survived beautifully. A lot of guys didn't. Belushi didn't. Anyway, he was always great at interacting with audiences. Thats what propelled him into later TV roles like deal or no deal. I would probably cringe if I was of the younger generation but you have to understand how stand up comedy evolved in the 70's. Steve Martin and Andy Kaufman were pushing boundaries and everyone was ready for it. Bat shit crazy was in, and this was bat shit crazy. This appearance had all of Howie's trademarks but his one liners were not up to what he was doing in another year. Check out some later shows. Better jokes, less bat shit crazy.

i know howie in reversed and cringed so hard. the first time i ever saw him was on deal or no deal. I read your comment and it makes perfect sense. (Also the only thing I know about Andy Kaufman is the documentary about Jim Carrey playing him, which blew my mind)
I watched him for the first time on a Canadian variety show called Bizarre with John Byner and Super Dave Osbourne. He fit in perfect with the rest of the oddballs.
Wowie, Howie. This...was just incredible. I never would have thought that the 62 year old guy who used to do Bobby's World and Deal or No Deal would have been like this in the 80's haha. Now I know why he was so off the wall in the movie, Little Monsters!
I love learning about Howie Mandel and his comedy in the 80s, just before dealing with 26 beautiful ladies, holding 26 amounts of money, and then dealing with a mysterious banker, and being a judge on America's Got Talent. He's awesome at what he continues to do, today!
Mandel had unlimited energy, good physical comedy and good timing. Comedy changes with time ... this does not take away from Mandel's performance. He is a great improviser!
this is comedy back then, stop hating. i must admit that it didnt make me laugh like most comedians do RIGHT NOW, but you know appreciate things. this is one of many other ways that made people laugh and forget about their problems. stop looking on the negative side ok. *this is my opinion sorry if i offended somebody (just incase)*

I have never been a fan of Howie Mandel but I love this performance! Completely unhinged. For those of you who say he's on something, you don't know. You may as well just credit Howie for this performance.
i just recently started watching america's got talent. i fell in love with Howie Mandell and when i found out he was a comedian i checked on youtube and this vidio has officially made me a huge fan!!!
This was brilliant. Howie's sets in the 80s showed what a great spontaneous comic he was. He could do an hour set without any material and just work off the audience if he had to.
For those of you who are criticizing Howie for this performance, I'm not trying to start a fight with you but I just want you to think about the fact that we live in an age where comedy is completely different. Back then, maybe this is what comedy was like or maybe he was just trying something different from what everyone was doing but think about this though, how many of you criticizing him would have the courage now to go out and pursue your dreams like he did at his age?. Regardless of this performance, he is worth 40 million dollars today. So him doing this performance matter how silly it was actually paid off years later and made a way for him and now he's probably chilling in a beautiful mansion while you and I and still grinding to make ends meet. I challenge you to think about what you want to do in life and to pursue it and see if you have half the courage he had to do it back then even as young as he was. So if you're reading this and you do have that courage, then despite what haters may think about you, then my fellow human, this is for you. Maybe one day you'll come across a video of yourself on RU-vid or whatever social media we'll have 17 years from now reading people criticizing you but you'll be laughing because you're chilling in a multi million dollar mansion because I know I will. Exactly bugameca!! Thank you!! Howie is the same age as I, and I remember how popular he was in the 80's because of his silliness. To me, he was like the younger brother of Steve Martin. He was and is a genius-comedian!!
wow so many critics here. but the sign of a GREAT comedian is seeing and hearing the audience laughing their brains out !! And they were doing that here .

I am sure that when he sees this,,he painfully cringes a bit. Which is hilarious. Some lady in the crowd 6 bags deep,,crackling,,annoying crackle,,but it fueled him along, along with the kool aid. obviously all you people that give bad reviews know nothing about comedy. Are you all saying this cause he is a canadian because this is pure talent. howie is Canada's version of robin williams. He is non stop and makes me laugh every second. So to all you people who dont like howie mandel buy the box set of friends

Howie always had OCD as a child , but he found a way to cope with it until he got married . Plus , he didn't want to be ostracized by people . OCD was the reason why he went bald . Germs was his issue .
