Just love this video Nick! I have only been collecting Hoya for the last two years. They are some of my favorite plants in my collection. I had a customer give me her 45 year old Hoya carnosa. She had it all wrapped up in a big bowl. When I unwound the tendrils the plant was 16 feet long. Needless to say I gave it a good haircut and created six or seven other plants from it. It is thrills me that the mother plant is that old
_Hoya carnosa_ was introduced to Britain in 1802 and was available to buy (for $5 a plant) in the US by 1822*. Very few people ever grow _Hoya carnosa_ from seed. The grandmother of your cuttings could be very old indeed. * From William Prince of the Linnæan Botanic Garden at Flushing, Long Island, near New York. By 1827 you could buy a plant for only $2 from G. Thorburn & Son of 67 Liberty Street, New York. I only have _Hoya carnosa_ and _Hoya bella_ and I love them both so much.
I started a plant collection after years of having one plant at a time and no green thumb. All because of videos just like this one. I keep coming back to Nick's videos because he is fun and has great plants. The Hoyas are my favorites. I have two different kinds. I have two cuttings that are growing for me really well
First Hoya I got was the green carnosa and she’s so underrated! One of my top 2 plants I own she’s gone from 1 long stem to at least 15 stems now that some go right down to the floor. If you see one and don’t have one I highly recommend especially if you have the light
I love my Hoya. They’re super addicting and definitely a good plant to have 50 of! I like that they’re flexible… they love light & humidity but they will do great in regular room conditions too. I really wish they didn’t attract mealies so much though 🤮
WOW what an incredible collection of Hoya you have, absolutely AMAZING, thank you so much for sharing Nick and wishing you a wonderful plant powered weekend XXXX
Nice collection. You have a few I've never seen before. I also love the plain carnosa. I think most people who have hoyas already have it, so that might be why they're disappointed when they see that's the only kind at the store.
I never understood the beauty of Hoya until I started watching your videos...they always looked so meh in the plant shops, but now I have 3 beauties and always on the hunt for more. Great tour today!!
👏👏👏 Yay! I loved your Hoya tour. So many fantastic favorites around every corner, wall, window, shelf. Thank you for sharing your wonderful collection. I like smaller pots of Hoya that I can look forward to something happening.
Love Hoyas. Have a Krimson Queen, Krimson Princess, Publicalyx, Carnosa Tri-color & Australias. Waiting for them to flower. Maybe this year!🤞 Need to replace my Wayettii Veriegata.
I have a cat, so Hoya is a nice houseplant since most of them (?) are pet safe, at least my hoyas have teeth marks on their leaves and the cat keeps making more of them... I think around hoyas there is a lot of networking and somehow it's an very nice collectors dream as it has variety in species.
I didn’t want any Hoya at first, but I found a few small, inexpensive ones and decided to give them a try. I’ve got to admit my Australis Lisa is a favorite!
I'm a big fan of hoyas now. I have a krimson princess, krohniana snow caps, australis lisa, and macrophylla albo marginata. They are doing really well for me. Hoyas and philodendrons seem to work out the best for me.
I started collecting plants a year ago and am just not getting addicted to Hoyas!! I just bought 6 diff Hoyas to add to my collection and am excited to see them grow, though I know they are slow growers! Hoping I can at least see some growth this growing season! Love your videos!
Watched your hoya tour video for the second time already. Please do an update tour, it's so interesting to look at all these different hoyas of yours 😍
I wish I could send you pics of my Hoyas. I currently have like 53 or 54 different varieties and they are doing so good for me in my massive mew greenhouse. Enjoyed the tour tho!!!
The new leaf on your peperomia elongata under the soltech light. 😍 so huge and beautiful if looks kind of like a queen anthurium if your just glancing. Amazing Hoyas as always nick! Thanks for another awesome video.
I find that Hoya grow like weeds with high humidity. obvs not always an option for everyone but if you wanted them all to grow fast, a grow tent or an ikea cabinet or even just a humidifier would be great.
Hey Nick- try a different mix I think it will* make a big difference for you. 1 part sphagnum peat 1 part NZ or Chile sphagnum moss 1 part coir chips 1 part Turface 1 part coarse alluvial sand (do not wash) 1 part pumice 1 part PBH rice hulls
Great collection! My Hoyas are my fastest growers only because I keep them in a grow tent during winter and then move them outside during spring/summer.
You need more than one strip light! I have at least two on shelf’s that size! Anything that is further away from the plants I would add three to four strips! My Hoya have three strips and are growing so fast now!!
Cute collection! Fingers crossed that now under growlight they will be not slow growers and in few moths time all of them will be bushy! :) I have few hoyas and I picked totally different ones! I have them under barrina t5 lights and they are booming with growth. Even carnosa compacta which is my slowest grower is working hard on new leaves on every vine. I got linearis, obovata, NGG, wayetii, sunrise, tricolor, compacta, crassiopetiolata splash, curtisi, macrophylla albomarginata, callistophylla, heuschkeliana variegata, sigilatis, caudata sumatra. I like to pick very dofferent leaves each time. Dying to acquire chunghungensis and endauensis and few more, polynuera broget and the one with giant flowers - macgillivrayi... I guess lovely hoyas are never ending. Love this species so much. Greetings from Poland
Hi Nick! Wow, I didn't realize that you have so many Hoyas! I'm hoping to find some more, but sometimes the ones at the big box stores don't look very good. I'll keep looking though. I, also, want to get some Dischidia and Ceropegia and I'm very glad that you showed yours. I love the Linearis and hope to find some, either the hoya or Ceropegia. I hope Muffin got to feeling better. It's always fun seeing her. And, yes, please show the "butterfly" method when you do it. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful collection of hoyas, Dischidia and Ceropegia!
Hello, I enjoy watching your videos. You've got a nice collection of plants. You have made everything so nice in your home. Well done. Greetings from Switzerland Manuela
Great tour! Have you thought about adding some humidity for your hoya? I added a few humidifiers to my ikea shelves and it made such a difference. New growth everywhere!
We ended up in some greenhouses on the campus of Univ of CA at Davis? I think it was, but they had plants we had never seen before. Especially hoya! Maybe you can find it on line. I think I took 300 pictures of their plants. You just never know what it is that gives different people joy and happiness, but this nice tour today was a much needed break from the coverage of the war in Ukraine. Have you ever grow any Agapetes? They are small and would give you some added color. When you run out of greenhouse space, you may have to move to Hawaii like we did where I actually have a few hoya growing on our fence along with Blue Jade vine,, Stephanotis and Passion flowers. Aloha
I think you hit the nail on the head at 19:00, I think the Hoya needs more water because the roots can die back if they don't get enough water, the plant is trying to grow more roots to support itself instead of new leaves and the leaves it does have will die off naturally if the plants' roots start dying back.
My p splash gets a pinkish color with new growth...you would like it more and it is a faster grower if you gave some more light! Mine is suprising me everyday how pretty it looks with the new growth thanks for the nice hoya tour!
I appreciate you including the dischidia and ceropegia with your hoya collection. My.australis is my fastest grower also. Curtisii I've killed 2 so I refuse to buy another one.
I've killed countless curtisii before my current one -- now this one grows like a weed! I don't even know what I'm doing different. They have just a mind of their own.
You have a nice collection. You may want to check out hoya's and flat mites. You can find several RU-vid videos. Flat mites also attack other houseplants.
LOVE HOYA!!!! Thank you for this awesome video Nick! Adding some species to my wishlist to get this spring! Are there some Hoyas that do better in brighter light than others? I don't have many but the one's I have I had to pull back from my un-obstructed SE windows because they were becoming really chlorotic. Not sure it it was just that species but if there are any that do well for you in windows I'd love to know which species those are. (and honestly any plant that's not a cactus/succulent that does well in bright light).
Love your videos! Can you make a video talking about how you manage your plants with your cat? I really want to adopt a cat but I’m afraid that some of my plants are “toxic” and I don’t want to get the kitty sick!
Hi! At 19:27 there's a lime green plant with heart-shaped leaves off to the left, can you tell me what that is? My friend has one and we have been trying to figure it out! Thanks! :)
Did you get your hoya kerrii as a single leaf or a vine? I had seen some that were just a single leaf and was afraid to buy it because of how slow growing I've heard they are.
