i bought one of these about a week ago. I love it. I'm a newbie and i shoot pretty good with it. i had a martin and changing to this was like wow. It felt a bit like going from a toy to a weapon. but that martin was second hand. Really appreciate the honesty in your reviews. thanks man. keep them up
Hey Steven, Love the reviews you are doing . After watching a lot of your videos I ended up settling on a Hoyt powermax for my first bow to get into hunting and archery. Thank you for everything you do and keep up the great work.
Love the bow so far. Had my local shop tune it and now I’ve dialed the sight in at 20-30-40-50 yards. My groupings on 20-40 are solid with the 50 yard having groupings of about 10 inches in diameter. But everything is user error I’m sure lol the bow performs great and surprised my friend who uses an elite Kure. He likes the Kure more and I shot his Kure and it is better. But for 300-450 bucks cheaper this bows performance is amazing. I plan on using it for at least 5 seasons before I consider upgrading if I even upgrade. I’ll be using it hunting so I imagine I’ll get a lot of use out of it.
Hello from America, always grateful for your reviews you do a really good job. Looking at a Z3 and the powermax really prefer the single cam don’t really want to deal with the timing issues. Been shooting a Parker Eagle for the past 4 years good bow for what it is too bad they went out of business. Thanks again.
Just bought one, mainly because of your review. Have a Mathews Reezen , hurts my shoulder with the break over. Hoyt doesn’t much better roll over. Been lifting weights 44 years, probably the problem. First shots arrows hit at 20 yards. Paid less than 600. Had it a year only problem is broken arrows from hitting the nocks. Still have it still watch your stuff
Thank you for the review Steven. I purchased this package with the QAD rest in the US several months ago. I am new to archery again (raised kids for 20 years), and have been using your videos as valuable teaching tools. It is a shame that Hoyts seem to cost so much more in Australia than in the States. Keep it up. Your honesty is valued.
Matthew Prazenica Curious since Hoyt doesnt seem to list they're MSRP, about how much is one in the states? And for someone who's shot crossbows for quite sometime but never really gotten into a "traditional" (for lack of a better term) bow would you recommend it as a starter or something maybe more basic/cheaper?
Aaron Price - I paid $600 American for mine. Some packages will go for $700-750 American for this year's model. I love the bow and the QAD rest. I have gone to a longer stabilizer though. (12"). I've been out of archery for several years and tried the Stinger first on Archery Supplies recommendation via RU-vid. The Hoyt was fantastic to relearn archery with!
Matthew Prazenica Thanks for the reply. Really the only archery experience I've had (besides crossbows as I mentioned) was shooting a Mathews Genesis when I was much younger. When I got about 14ish I got a Wicked Ridge Invader crossbow (nice investment btw) and havent shot much else since. But since crossbows arent legal to hunt with in all states (e.g. in Ohio they're perfectly allowed but 10 minutes away in WV they are forbidden unless you're like disabled or something) I figured I would start shooting something legal in all states in case I ever got the chance to take like a hunting trip or something. But given that I know very little about archery I figured I'd do some research before I even went to look at bows....then to further complicate things I'm a lefty so I've got that to deal with lol. Overall I think I'm liking the Hoyts for the price, they dont seem outrageously expensive but seem to come with a lot of features.
Great review Steven! Would really love to see how you feel about the new Hoyt Redwrx in a standard (non turbo) model. Thanks so much! Whether you like a bow or not I always enjoy your reviews.
Nice concise review. My mate Tom brought the Klash. His recurve is Hoyt and hes bit of a Hoyt fanboy. He took a loss on it, flogged it on Ebay and now shoots a PSE Stinger lol. Glad this is better bow.
Nice to see you like my bow Steve, served me really well as a beginner, cool to see it through the chrono aswell. Could you do a review of the carbon spyder if you still have the other second hand one?
They're great bows. A bummer about the high cost of them over there, I won't tell you how much I paid for mine. I've shot mine about three times a week all summer and it still feels like a new bow. We're talking hundreds of arrow through it. Put on some quality parts, like a drop away rest and a decent sight and that bow will hit what ever you point it at. It's as light as an RX1 and shoots almost as fast for less than half the cost. I'd love to have an RX1, but it's hard to convince myself to spend the extra money when my Powermax will do the exact same thing. The PSE you mentioned is also a great bow. I hard a hard time deciding on a Powermax or the PSE, but I found a used Powermax in perfect shape for half the price new, so I pulled the trigger. The entry level bows are getting so good now, it's really hard to drop $1k+ on a pro grade bow. I'm sure one day I'll spend more than I should on a high end bow, but for a guy that just got back into archery and is teaching himself to shoot again, I couldn't be happier with my Powermax.
I just can't get over the crap quality of hoyt and a lot of other bows on the market these days I've been shooting my ben Pearson advantage for years stupidly sold it these cast risers with plastic limb pockets and having the limbs screw into a cast riser with no steel inserts is just unbelievable I should have kept my old bow I've got a hoyt powermax I've tried a few pse bows and not one shoots like the od bow or has the build quality even hoyts high end carbon bows don't compare back to the drawing board with bow shopping
Why have accessories screw directly into aluminium risers no steel inserts plastic limb pockets I could go on just because something says hoyt on it don't make it great
Hey quick question so I don't know much about hoyt cuz I've on ever shot mathews bows but I got my wife the hoyt powermax and I was reading the hoyt website and it says 5 to 6 turns and then another spot on there site says newer bows is 10 turns is the most you should back out the limb bolts but the manual for the bow on there website says 8 turns. The archery talk website all the guys with the powermax says 10 to 12 turns maximum. So I was wondering do you know the maximum number of turns. I got my wife really close to almost comfortable draw weight but I don't wanna do more then 8 turns until I find out if it's safe. Thanks in advance
Hey bro I live in Aus and want to start bow hunting my question is is if I wanted to start would This be the bow u would recommend as my starting bow as I wanna hunt deer my budget would be 1200 max your review is great plz help
Hoyt Nitrux 2019 review would be nice. Is tve upgrades wotth the higher proce compared to the powermax? In Finland the Nitrux is 705€ (~793$US). Powermac is ~570€. Thank you for the good reviews✌️🏹
Even though I do agree that Hoyts bows look allot cooler then others on the market I do believe they are overpriced for what you get . Take Hoyts flagship carbon red works bow number 1 its not even carbon its a carbon wrap aluminum so there is no weight saving what so ever its more then a pound heavier then the Pse carbon stealth wich is also allot cheaper, faster and stronger plus its all Carbon and much more user friendly to adjust especially when you want to sell it later because there's no need to buy modules to make the bow fit you so whats the advantage? I've found this to be the case with all of Hoyts models.
He doesn't know what he's talking about. All bows are tested at 70#'s to get a FPS. He's also using a whisker biscuit, haha! Also, the clash is Hoyt's kids bow, as your child grows you can adjust the draw length and weight to suit them.
Dont take the critics too seriously, take the points they make (accordingly) and ignore the irrelevant. Only gripe I have is I waited nearly two mins letting the first arrow fly. 🤣 You know all your data and that's good, find a balance in your videos, of data and demonstration. Cheers🤜🤛
