took the melancholy and pain of the original and added rawness and anger, made an already impactful and tragic song into a tangible piece of frustrations and suffering of queerness im shaking just wow Yongsun....
@@messyicymcspicyYou're really out here trying to use big words to talk down to others, huh. This is the least raw and emotional song I've heard in a long while. There's no way she even feels anything of what she's singing, other than trying to pronounce it right and sing pretty. 🤷🏼♀️ But go ahead, tell us *one* expert (other than yourself apparently) that agrees with you.
@@khplaylistyt9729 Isn't it the beauty of art and music that 1) rawness and anger can be expressed differently, and 2) different people can respond differently to a work or performance? You may feel there is nothing there, but to others, it is there. You are entitled to your opinion, but also have the responsibility to acknowledge you are expressing an opinion, not a fact.
@@NaishiYTHozier himself in an interview with Star Tribune stated that the song is an attack on the anti-lgbtq+ in the church, it is a song against homophobia. The song also is about sexuality, something that certain churches/subcategories of it have shamed before too, however the song is incredibly important to the lgbtq+ community due to the message about anti-lgbtq+ in the church which many people in the community have been directly or indirectly harmed by (and politically have been harmed by). That is why it has to do with pride because it is a song directly related to the community and it's struggle. I suggest watching the music video as it shows a visual explanation on the message!
@@liliflwrs I’ve watched the video multiple times. I never got that message from it lol. I always thought this was a church song (my dad would play it every time we went to church lol). But that’s interesting
The fact she keeps covering songs in English + the picture on the thumbnail made me click fast lol! She looks and sounds so good in this video! As usual but i love the black and white here! 😍
Listening to Solar-nim's voice singing this song made me hear my heart beat. It feels like my room zoomed out a hundred times and I suddenly was in a huge room with only the reverberation of sound to orient me. So grand yet close. I love it so much
The history of this song, what it represents, what it means…. Whew chile! And Solar’s covering it in this month in particular-. I trust her, I trust she knows what it means and I’m appreciative. Thank you Solar 💜 ily
I've only heard this song in passing, but I love the way it feels listening to Solar-nim's voice sing it. It feels big enough for Solar-nim's voice to stretch out and fill up a grand space. Glorious
She specifically chose this song, in a time that all of us queer people are fighting hard to be seen, she meticulously learnt the lyrics an and even translated them into Korean for the video, she channelled all our rage and suffering for us. This made me so emotional. Thank you Yongsun, for going the extra mile, for letting us know you're with us. ❤
If Solar had never made it as a Kpop idol, I'm convinced she would have a cover channel on YT. I'm still stunned to this day that every other company rejected her because they thought she was just too old to start as a trainee and then debut.
Her voice is endlessly fascinating to me. The way she can sing with so much depth and texture, and then in another song, sing with the cleanest, lightest voice is insane.
It's actually satirical, a critique of organized religion. It's in English, but there's a Genius Lyrics video where he explains the meaning of the song, line by line.
how "powerful organizations use people's sexuality to mobilize people against women, against gay people, and the justification behind that is often religious in nature."
Omg! Everyone needs to hear this cover. How daebek! It’s such a powerful and exquisite performance. Bravo on the English pronunciation too! Never stop singing Solar. You just keep stretching and improving.
There's being multilingual and then there's being able to pitch themselves perfectly in your non-native language. Truly a generational talent like no other.
I’m genuinely surprised there aren’t any more female covers of this song. If you just looked at the lyrics you’d think that it was written by a queer woman about the bigotry she experienced growing up in going to church and how a woman showed her what unconditional love actually is and helped her move past this brainwashing of guilt and shame!
