This song actually changed the way I sing, now I actually sing and act like an idiot when I do, bopping along to Sweet Music while wandering through the corridors. Now at karaoke I don't wait for someone else to go first, this song is my default. I used to say 'haha no I cant sing' even though I am pretty good at singing, now when the teacher calls for someone to sing I'm up there, humming, dancing, singing whatever I need to. This song is also a coping mechanism for me. I was in a car crash a while back and still get sort of panic attacks but singing helps, singing is calming, it's a beautiful release that anyone can do no matter who, where, when or how. Sing loud and proud or sing quiet at home. Just sing for the love of it.
Singing is a coping mechanism for me too and it's good that you have more confidence in your voice, for me it's one of the only skills that I feel confident in. I can't wait to do karaoke tho, it's a dream of mine.

Every time I'm coming out of a depressive episode I sing this song. "At best you'll find a little remedy, at worst the world will sing along." And I usually do find a little remedy, but sometimes I'm reminded that I can lean on friends and family for support. I think I will stick around until I hear that music play again. Thanks Hozier.
Maybe it’s because I was raised in an environment where cruel criticisms were dealt out freely like dinner mints at a shitty restaurant, maybe it’s because I’ve been conditioned to self sabotage myself whenever I’m not acceptable skilled at a new task, or maybe it’s simply because I needed to be told that it’s okay for me to be flawed right now, but I started sobbing when I first heard this song. There’s such a genuine, human capacity to Hozier’s voice that sometimes you can’t help but feel that he’s not only speaking to you, but to the deepest inner reaches of what makes you who you are.

As someone who thought for years her voice was not good enough for s singer and a sufferer of impostor syndrome in other aspects of her life, I feel you. I'm changing that and Andrew has been an incredible influence. Now I'm sobbing too...damn.

So I don't know if someone else already said this... To me this song is deeply touching, because "singing" can be replaced with love. And he says, maybe it won't be as the first time you felt it ,but you can find joy in the melody by finding new meanings. And above all, don't forget to just love, love, love. At least just for the joy of it.
This song is universal because it isn't just love or singing--it is any verb that got you wanting to get out of bed in the morning. Advocating, dancing, writing--any of those things that we once did from that naive place of childlike hope we could do it forever without it being too lousy with responsibility.

He's saying who could ask something as big as to be unbroken or hope even on this side of the grave again (meaning to at least be on the good side of rock bottom). It's desperate bc that person is not even asking anymore to be out of the grave or whatever shitty place/situation they're in. They're just asking to at least be in the less shitty parts of a shitty place.
I think this is my absolute favourite, it's so bright and yet is also that note of distortion towards the end that adds this sense of decaying positivity and I'm in love with it
This song just sounds like pure adoration and acceptance of someone for being themselves, and it breaks me down because I know no one will ever love me like that as I have for others in the past.

This just drags me in. I zone out when I listen to music usually, only hearing a bit of the song. But this song drags me in and demands to be heard. And then when I listen it feels like home. But different. Like his music just wants to make a home for everyone, just make sure everyone is comfortable and welcomed. I wish I had discovered his music earlier

I used to sing all the time, but then depression set in and one day I realized that I had stopped. With treatment I’ve been able to move past it, and this song reminds me of all the joy and grief of that journey. I love it

I used to sing a lot and well enough that i got joy, true deep in my body joy, from going from note to note like a bird. The feeling of your voice in your body and the pure happiness of making noise. I went through some things and depression, gaslighting targeting my voice, or simply the stress took away my desire to sing. I lost my skill and relearning what I once did so easily broke me a little further. I've been singing or making noise since I was a toddler babbling along. Music is part of my very being. Losing that took so much more from me. I'm slowly getting it back and come here and listen to this song every now and then to remind myself why I fight to get my voice back. I cried listening to this tonight. I miss it. Singing, just standing in a room at home by myself and singing is like flying to me. I feel like a bird with broken wings, suck staring at the sky. I'm not a great singer but its part of me. I'm mending the broken bits of me little by little. Getting back the thing that brought me joy.

I think this is the only song that has helped me think positively of my singing. I recently discovered I am not good at singing at all, I can’t carry a pitch and my tone wavers far too much. But I love to sing, I love making noise, And hearing my favorite music artist sing that it’s ok to not be good but to just make noise to just do it because it brings me joy, makes me unbelievably happy and comfortable in my horrible singing voice
