What's the trackpad like? I've heard some bad stuff about it. Also apparently it's quite laugh when zooming and scrolling especially when using gestures and also lags when watching hd video, what have you found with these problems? If it is laggy doing those things will it be fixed with a software update?
1. how does this compare with the 2012 CrBk by Samsung? No usb3 or sd-card it seems. 2. can an external hdd be connected thru usb ports to read/save files/movies?

There are actually some Android phone based on Intel processors. Android being based on the Linux kernel, it could theoretically run on any architecture, although optimizations were surely made toward ARM.
Can I install my invoicing program? How can I save my videos and pictures with out them being online? Can I install the Spotify software? My purchased music? How can I back up my ipod or iphone on this?
I'm a student whose going to high school soon and I need a laptop but mostly just for typing/writing documents. I really love the look of this laptop and the fact that it's so easy to bring with you to a lot of places. I would like to use this laptop for RU-vid and movies and things like that as well. I've been torn between this laptop and the Chromebook 14. Considering all this, which would you recommend?
I own both, the HP11 is almost 2 pounds lighter and has a much nicer screen, speakers and overall design. It is noticeably slower, but unless you have more than a dozen tabs open not a huge issue. The hp14 does have better battery life and a 4G option though.

Well I suppose you could run steam OS but I think trying to game on it might be rather disappointing. I have no idea if driver support would even work either since the gpu was never intended for games other than maybe ones you could open in a web tab. From what we know, steam OS should be usable on any machine that can run ubuntu.

I agree that the lack of offline capabilities is a bummer, although Google is making good progress (lastly working on the integration of Quick Office for offline office work). However, I see ChromeOS more as a "futuristic" OS, for a future where apps are fully executed on servers, removing the need for powerful hardware. But this future will only happen when we'll have 4G everywhere, and web apps will have improved, both in quality and quantity. +1 for running Android apps as a bonus though :)
You are right, but i see a lot of chrome books running on ARM processors and having touch screens, i don't see a difference from my Asus transformer with the dock attachment. I'm in no way bashing Chrome, i just wanna use my app without having to be in a browser all the time and needing internet for everything.
Im afriad that the white keyboard will get dirty, and I am thinking to get the black one but the black on is really boring. I was also considering the acer c720 but i think i like the hp chromebook 11. GAAH!
You're welcome, and yeah sadly it's not :( hopefully they put it in a future update. You should change your channel to beta mode by going to Settings > Help (on left hand side) > and select more info > change to beta mode.

Actually I think I understood your point, but it doesn't mean I agree with it. It does matter that a couple of phone use Intel x86 processors, as they run a fully functional version of Android, with almost full app support (only apps not using the SDK can be incompatible). I'm not talking about the Android-x86 project, but about the version published by Intel itself. Sure, Intel x86 processors are less efficient for mobile devices than ARM, but that doesn't mean they're not a viable solution.
If I could make that my litle inexpensive and light processor computer can be attractive I will choose it over another one. This one is much better in that aspect although i'd like it to have more flash storage. 32 GB would do it for me.
Bazooka Yoshi It's using the Gentoo build system, so i guess that's the most related distro but it's still not based on gentoo. My comment is outdated btw, it's no longer running the 3.8 kerel but the latest upstream linux LTS kernel (4.4 as of today).
No, the XOLO uses the Intel Atom CPU, which is X86 And yes, I know, it's a tablet, but its still an android device using an x86 CPU, and same with the newest Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Because Android apps have touch-based user interfaces, which are imho far less productive on a laptop than keyboard/mouse interfaces. Of course, Google could adapt the system to such controls, but the apps won't follow.
What model WORD are you talking about? If you are talking about Office 365, then you can run Word on just about any browser. If you are asking if there is an Office application, then no there is nothing and probably would be nothing for a long time.
I honestly can't see why Steam OS wouldn't run on this when Steam OS releases because Steam OS is Linux based although you won't get any games working on this thing, maybe on the HP Chromebook 14 or better processor type Chromebooks you could get some games but the Chromebooks are not made for gaming.
probably not, coz ubuntu would be a very similar os to windows and mac osx and with chrome os, it's more of google and is much more light weight as they even diminished the desktop usually on the ubuntu and or linux releases. The laptop would just need to focus on the chromebook with all the memory provided and cpu power to just power google chrome...
Justin Chan Canonical could always take this idea of tiny laptops with optimization for a smaller OS and make more affordable System76 computers. If a System76 laptop were at this price range with the Chromebooks, I'd buy one before even THINKING about a Windows PC at the same price.
I don't understand chrome OS. Why don't they just use android and make a desktop style system UI? Much better...

Just search for "Intel Android smartphones" on Google and you'll see you're wrong. And for Android apps, they're built in Java, and executed on the Dalvik virtual machine, so they don't rely on any architecture. Once the Android system compiled for x86, and with proper hardware drivers (which are easy to develop for manufacturers), any app could run on the x86 system. By the way, I completely agree with you on the ChromeOS goal. I was just refuting the fact that Android is ARM only.
Actually, I just did some research. And I found out it CAN run G-Mod. You have to install Linux as a secondary OS to Chrome OS, then use Crouton to swap between the two OSes, then install Steam on the Linux OS, then install G-Mod or any other compatible Linux game from Steam.
aw this has exynos processor.. aww. the chromebook 14 is 10x better than this chromebook for 20 bucks more wifi model. 10 hours battery, haswell architecture chip (not officially b/c it doesn't have turbo-boost though), 4gb ram
