Are the gpus liquid cooled as well? And if not whats thr point of having wuch a huge chasse just to cool the small cpu and not the gpu...wouldnt gpu overheat
Watched your review of the HP45L back in early March. After ten years of upgrading my previous HP and studying many gaming PCs over the past 14 months. I bought a fully loaded HP45L at the end of March, arrives tomorrow. I have worked over 30 years in the aeronautics industry working & designing avionics integration laboratories. I used my HP corporate benefits account for an awesome discount. Now it is time for some fun, thank you for your review that led to this purchase!
Can you recommend some performance benchmark tools for my new OMEN beast? Looking into large multi-terabyte internal SSD upgrade, any you recommend? I was tempted to purchase Alienware because I was so uninformed. However, this video and channel helped me greatly to change my decision to Omen 45L. HP was also doing $1k discount for some reason. Thank you so much and hope your channel flourish
Thanks for doing another review of the 45L! The first video was great, but I was wondering if anyone would do another review because if you go on youtube most reviews of the 45L were from last year and not from 2023. I was trying to find reviews of the 45L with the RTX 40 series and 13 gen Intel CPU's. This seems to be the best review so far. Great job 👍
No problem @Anibration ! I had a lot of people request a review of this year's 45L so I knew it was going to be received well if I made another one with their latest. Glad it was helpful for you!
I have a HP Omen 45L with the Intel i7 processor, with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and the NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080. It cost me around $1900 at the time I purchased it. I have had no complaints about it. Maybe in the future I'll upgrade to the RTX 4090. I would have to get a more powerful power supply though. Mine power supply is only 800W. This new version of the HP OMEN 45L will cost you about $4950.
Justin, I absolutely love review videos, and this was top notch. I've been scoping out this PC for a week now, and your graphs, thermal tech, and knowledge are so helpful in comparison. Keep up the good work!
just joined after watching a few videos, only the 3rd channel I've ever joined and the first channel ever in technology in general! keep up the good work, I find these very informational, and entertaining! these are great!
I bought mine in September of last year on Amazon, got it for something like £2,720 (about €3100) with the 32GB DDR5 Kingston Fury ram the 4080 and the 2TB SSD, honestly price aside (because they're not cheap) I love it, runs like a dream, it's hella quiet to the point the first few times the fans kicked up it took me aback, but it's not a bad thing, it does a good job of intaking cool air and exhausting hot air, none of my internals run overly hot under load and I haven't met a game yet that I can't run at a high frame rate. If you have the money I highly recommend, Or if you see them on sale I recommend them even more.
Just picked it up! I couldn’t customize the ram so I have the fury rgb ram at 16gb. Came out to $2970 with tax. Plus I’m getting about 6% cash back. 13900k, 4090. Only issue is the ram but I’ll upgrade that later. I’m excited it arrives tomorrow! I usually keep my computers for like 5 years
Thermal camera footage is cool. Your editing is looking good. However, in your last few videos i think the Alienware desktop is getting knocked a bit unfairly. The R15 seems to have a pretty strong performance in your benchmarks, you mainly point out the negatives about the price. And while your screenshot is correct, it was listed at $5k, but Dell pricing is kind of fake like Kohl's or TJ Max. Their list price is almost never the price it is actually available for. The Dell website generally has some random sale almost daily, and if you take the time to call in or talk in Live Chat they will almost always knock the price down. You can most likely get the R15 for a comparable price to other systems with beefy specs.
Yeah they do frequently have deals, but from what I've seen they're still usually slightly more expensive when you compare how much RAM is included and how much SSD storage you get. I know they do it that way because there are still plenty of people that pay full price, but it still rubs me wrong that they use that almost "used car salesmen" tactic when most other prebuilt PC companies are very up front about their price. But yeah I agree it did perform pretty well
In fact, dell is having huge sales for more than 2 weeks. You can buy a r15 for about $3400 make it one of the cheapest 4090 prebuilt. How about dollar per frame now?
Just picked this up from Microcenter for $3,500 plus an additional 10% off of that with their CC. That's $3,150 before taxes. Can't beat that IMO, I love it! I also picked up 2 year extended warranty through them but now I am interested to know if Extreme mode will also void Microcenters warranty...
Thanks a lot man, this video definitely helped me make my choice; I just bought an Omen 45L. It's currently on sale at Best Buy for $3200 but my configuration only came with 16GB of RAM... but buying a little more RAM is a small price to pay for a pretty good deal on a 4090/i9 13900K machine all things considered. It's gonna get here in 3-5 days and I'm hella excited!
@BatteryBatterfree It's an excellent PC so far, I'm very much loving it. It plays any game I throw at it while multitasking with EASE, and while the cyro chamber is a little gimmicky, it's still an AIO so CPU temps stay relatively cool. I plan on doubling the RAM to 32GB, adding an additional SSD, and possibly swapping out the fans on the AIO since they're a bit loud compared to the other fans. Still, I love this PC, it's easily the best computer I've ever touched let alone owned.
love the review helped me decide that the OMEN 45L was the one i wanted..arrives monday!! question i opted for 64gb ram.... max says 128g can you recommend which ram to increase to max? im new to the Gaming PC world.
Thanks for reviewing this one. I was looking at the corsair vengeance but went with the 45L and I am happy with the purchase. Runs quiet and cool and plays everything 😎.
@@dablackseto14you still enjoying your new 45l? I just ordered one last night, I fell in love with the isolated rad. Makes sense to me to have gpu and cpu have their own fresh air supplies. Did you add any more ram or ssd’s?
@garrettgonsalves6224 the PC is a beast and I love it. I have not added any ram but did add a 8TB SATA drive for storage. Might get some ram later in the year but hasn't been an issue yet.
Thanks, Justin, for the great video!....Up here in Canada, we are not permitted to customize HP gaming desktops!...Should customers outside of the US wait for this configuration for a 4K gaming HP PC?
@Rodney Dangerfield. Geez that's really lame. Yeah I just went to the HP Canada site and they really do have pretty slim pickings. Looked on Corsair Canada too and they don't have much. I wonder why it takes so long to bring the latest PCs to Canada.. Literally one country away from where these tech company headquarters are.
Another great video! I was wondering what your thoughts on the Omen 40L are? I was looking at the one with an Intel i7 and RTX 3070ti. I don't know if you've got that one, I couldn't find a video about it on your channel, but still I imagine you can probably tell pretty easily if a PC is worth it or not...
I ended up ordering one of these just now. I chatted with customer support and they threw in a 3 year onsite warranty for free. $3600 out the door with warranty, shipping, and tax to CA. Pretty much cannot be beat on price!
I have the 2022 45l with last year nvidia 3080 and i7 12th gen. IT was cheaper than Alienware and CLX, but HP used the cheaper older ddr at the time. Maybe the MB too. I ended up buying more ram later. I just want a quiet power ful pc at the time. It is quiet and still powerfull. Maybe not 4090 and i8 13th gen. Yes, the case design is cool and easy to open. Idon't overclock, just wanted something reliable.
@inmyzone8511 did you already buy it? Check out the sale on the slightly faster i7500 right now geni.us/CorsairVengeance-i7500 . Believe it or not it's actually cheaper than the i7400 right now
Great channel!! I'm looking for a new computer mine is not windows 11 compatible. Considering I started off CSCI with a 8088 cpu, these machines should guide a spaceship to another galaxy!! I'm watching closely and so far, I'm not disappointed! Great work! 🙂
@Thomas Whitten good deal. Yeah you can get a really powerful PC for $3000. Stay tuned as I have a lot of PCs lined up so I'll have a even more to compare to in the next few months
y’all I need help, I see so many awesome reviews yet so many trash reviews for Hp, right now I’m trying to get the omen 45l from the HP website since I can customize it to the specs I like, no other website can do that so should I go for buying from hp?
I just bought an hp manufacturer refurbished 45 L (13900K+4090 GPU) - slapped in new 64GB DDR 5 5200 RAM (included in the price) - At 10% Taxrate at the Local MicroCenter - $2815.75. Gotta Love it - This thing is a Monster.....
Hey Justin I'm planning to buy a new PC next month. I'm still undecided what to get budget is around 4k. My two picks is 2023 HP Omen 45L or VENGEANCE i7400 Gaming PC, i9-13900K, RTX 4090. Seems the Vengeance actually decreased its price by $100 recently. With almost exactly the same specs and price which would you recommend?
@comsci2491 I would go with the i7400 over the HP Omen 45L. go.corsair.com/5gg6gn You can see here that it's got double the warranty that HP has as well which always makes me happy
Yeah I agree that is a little weird. I think they are trying a little too hard to protect themselves from future issues with the CPU. Even in Performance mode this PC still had the best performance in high resolution gaming though. I would just stay in Performance mode the whole time unless you like living on the edge and want to take your chances with Expert Mode.
@@JustinTechTips on last year's model LTT said they underpowered the CPU or something like that. Maybe this Extreme mode is a way to counter the underpower?
@5after12 yeah I saw that video too. And that was my thought exactly. I think they had a meeting after that video and said "Well dang. We're trying to protect the PC but if people have such a big issue with that, let's give them what they want and still protect our own RMA department" . My own tests showed last years model to underpower the CPU as well. Almost feels like this year there should be a mode in between Performance and Extreme mode
Hey Justin - I see this model you are showcasing you indicate in your video that it is 32 GB of RAM but when I click the first link for the HP OMEN 45L it’s only for a 16GB Ram unit? Did you upgrade your unit? As I am unable to find this unit but with 32GB of RAM. Loved the review. Totally sold me on it.
I bought the Omen 45L and then discovered that there is not a single PCIe slot available with the RTX 4090 graphics card installed. No way to add 10GB Ethernet or Firewire or a USB 4.0. I sent the computer back to HP and will be going with the Lenovo Legion instead that does provide for adding PCIe cards to the motherboard. HP has room inside the case to have a full size ATZ motherboard but elected to use a min-ATX for no good reason and so cut down any available card slots. Might as well buy a laptop with the 4090 GPU when there are no expansion options with the tower.
Why is it I always watch these videos AFTER I make my purchase? 🤣🤣. Anyway, I just purchased the OMEN 45L Gaming Desktop GT22-1470se. I won't bore you with the specs but I paid 2,300 after all is said and done. I'm sure this machine is going to scream. My HP 11 year old machine is still serving me well. Even at 11 years old I purchased it with 32 GB of RAM!. My new Omen has 64 GB which is too much but hey..why not, right? Thank you for the great video!!!
That was a great review, u r awesome. I've only a question: How can we overclock this beast? I wanna use this for AI projects that are extremely GPU-intensive.
Hello I am torn between buying the Aurora R16 w/ 4090 and the 45L with 4090. Can you offer some additional advice or what you would say you recommend between the two. I will use your affiliate link in exchange!
@ordinarywowgamer great question! And thank you for remembering to use my links! The R16 will perform better for you than the 45L and because of the deals right now, the R16 actually has the best price/performance ratio out of all the 4090 gaming PCs I've reviewed right now. In my experience with Alienware, onsite support is always reallyy good too. geni.us/Alienware-Aurora-R16
Maybe its different in Canada. But with the Alienware R15, I can get it on sale at one of the best prices for a pre build with its specs. Even throwing a 5 year onsite repair warranty on it, its on par price wise with the MSI computers with 1 year mail in warranties. HP Omen 45l with a 3080ti is running over $5000 which is crazy. They don’t offer the computer your reviewing here. I can only imagine how much its cost in Canada. Honestly I am jealous with the choices in the US market.
I currently have an XBox Series X and looking to get a gaming PC. I mostly play games like Forza Horizon 5, and the other Forza games. I also play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, assassin’s creed series, Far Cry Series, F1 2022 etc. I’m also looking to get into Iracing which is PC only. And eventually VR will be in the picture. I’m looking to get a gaming PC that will play all these games at the max settings without issue but I don’t know that much about PCs so I don’t wanna buy too much for what I need. What would you suggest I don’t think I’ll be doing any kind of creating with the PC or anything like that strictly gaming stuff. However, I would like upgradeability for later on
I just bought this yesterday (6/29/23) before watching these vids. Mostly for creator use. It was on sale for $3000 at HP. I probably wouldn’t have bought it for $3900.
My experience with two in the last 13 months is "unreliabale '': first failed within 3 weeks ( RTX3070 no video) was replaced by HP within 3 days (great); the second failed 13 months later ( out of the 1 year warranty) windows doesn't boot anymore " error 3F0 ". Mine is the HP OMEN 45L GAMING GT2-000x i712700-KF with win 11. It never was used for for gaming , but for mostly video editing, and browsing. NVMe was tested, ok , all test in the "EUFI" reported everyday was ok.
If it was shutting down without your command that means the problem is where u were plugging it in. And as u watched at the beginning. This pc is mainly a gaming PC. Yes it can be used for videos and editing but mainly designed specifically for Gaming. That's y HP gave it a high RTX and not so high RAM. along with custom modes for gameplay. Also since your comment doesn't describe why your PC was unreliable. That leads me to assume that u had alot of dust in your pc and/or u did something to the inside that u weren't supposed to do. Or u didn't keep it clean like u were supposed to do. But regardless of my accusations, The OMEN 45L is Upgradable and has an AIO. So u most likely didn't do ur research when the PC "failed" on u. But to me, it sounds like the pc didn't fail u. I failed it. Also if u did end up Openinf up the Motherboard or cables. There could be something u forgot to plug back in or u didn't plug it in properly or u messed up one of the cables. And also that when u have a PC . Please, please make sure u have a Surge Protecter so the PC won't "fail" u. If u dunno what a surge protector is. Google it n buy one.
The omen brand of prebuilds are pretty underrated . i have the 5800x omen 30l with a rtx 3080 and 1TB ssd NVME, 16GB XMP 3200 (3247 OVERCLOCKABLE RAM) and ive had no problems with it other than the proprietary parts like the motherboard. So no real bios like on normal board. however you dont really need to go into the bios like that for any reason really to be honest. And the upgrade path is pretty decent, although i have a 5800x i can put a 5900x in this omen 30l motherboard and it will work perfectly. when it comes to prebuilds i say the only one id get is from omen HP. but if a company is going to build you a pc out of the parts you picked than that is way better of course.
Yes if you have last year's 45L you can swap a 3090 with the new 4090 if you also get a new PSU powerful enough to handle it. This review mainly is for people who don't already have an HP Omen 45L, but I guess it also shows current 45L owners how big of a difference a 4090 can make if they swap it out.
Hey man! Great video! I was wondering if you could answer a question of mine. I got my omen 45L around 6 months ago and I recently put it under my desk (I KNOW ITS BAD FOR TEMPS) but I have a 3070 and I was wondering if there is any way to get better airflow under my desk. I can really feel the heat when I am sitting down and I doesn’t bother me but I’m sure it’s not good for the cpu. I stay around 55-65 on small load and 65-80 on high load. I also wanted to ask you if you know if the omen 45L can have a vertical mount attached because I LOVE THE WAY THEY LOOK. Could you let me know your thoughts. One last thing is how do I know what kind of psu cables I need to get because I don’t like the stock cables and I really wanted to get a new cable for Gpu and motherboard!!! Thanks 😊
This review is really good. But ya didn't cover its motherboard and upgradability. I cannot find anything about that on Internet at all. So if you have any information or anyone please share here. Thank you.
Depending on the year of your 45L u might not need to remove the GPU. But regardless of the year. I personally DO recommend that u should remove it. Bc behind the gpu is where alot of other specs are. Your gonna have to move the GPU out the way eventually. ESPECIALLY when your cleaning dust out from the inside.
I like how he said patented design, Sony had this design in the early 2000's with the Vaio R series even down to the button that swings out the side panel.
Awesome video ordered this pc about a week before you posted this, same specs as you appreciate the in depth walkthrough I know everything now and what to expect
Built with cheap parts, cheap motherboard, cheap power supply, cheap RAM, cheap case. Build Pro PC has a prebuilt with high quality parts with an RX 6650 XT and Ryzen 5 for under $900.
Throwing this out here to perhaps persuade some buyers elsewhere.. I bought the HP Omen 45L around mid 2022. Ever since Ive gotten it; it has been nothing but issues. A plethera of bios updates to fix my PC from hard freezing during gameplay. Being forced to use the Omen app that locks all of my settings and resets them every update(at least 2x a month) I'm now experiencing issues where my PC will not shut down properly, it freezes when its restarting, and I'm constantly having to restart this 20lb hunk of garbage. If youre willing to take the chance than go for it, but id never purchase from HP again after this. 2k in the trash
Seems like a LOT of overkill 😅 I’ve played it with all the expansions, Gshade and about 150 mods smoothly on a 3080 laptop. So if that’s your only game you could save a bunch of money and still have great performance!
