Great video! I recently got one of these, model nr. 2755nd. Mine came with Windows 11 Home, a 256Gb Samsung M.2 NVMe drive, a 1Tb Toshiba HDD, and 2 sticks of 8Gb RAM. Got it for 499,- euro. It still has the 180W PSU though, but I've seen replacements from HP up to 500W for around 50 bucks if needed. I like it a lot, it's perfect for my personal use and that for only a quarter of the price of my previous (13 year old!) PC build. The HDD and fans are a bit too loud for my liking though. I've ordered a 2Tb SATA SSD to replace the HDD and a 92mm and a 80mm Noctua Redux to replace the case fan and CPU fan. I still have to check inside the PSU how easy it is to swap out that fan but I'll probably replace that with a tiny Noctua as well. Cheers from the Netherlands!

Sounds like you are making some good modifications to reduce the noise and improve the cooling. Have fun with the system!
@storm3016
@storm3016 Год назад
@@GlennBerrySQL Thanks! As it turns out there was a 70mm fan in the PSU and I couldn't find a silent 70mm fan. But the CPU got about 5 degrees hotter with the Noctua fan compared to the stock fan so I put back the original CPU fan (mine's from Coolermaster), removed the PSU fan out of the casing entirely and ziptied the 80mm Noctua to the front of the PSU inside the PC case. It's a little bit janky, but now the PC is completely silent and the PSU stays cooler this way than with it's original fan. I still get pretty high CPU tempts under full load though (90C), so I'll probably replace the CPU cooler with a Noctua L9a soon. Just not looking forward to take the entire motherboard out of the case to mount the Noctua back-plate, lol

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but there is an App from AMD called Ryzen Master that will allow you to fix your DDR4 Ram problems, it actually writes the settings to the bios that HP doesn't allow you to do.

Glenn... Thank you for the review. I purchased this exact model a few days prior to seeing this review. You mentioned the sata connection. I would like to add a 1tb ssd hard drive, can that be installed in the case as is? 2.5" sata ssd without a lot of issues? Is there one you would recommend? Also, I was a bit confused regarding the ram upgrade as you went through it - very thorough but a lot of info. If I purchased the crucial 16gb ram as listed by you, that would work alongside the existing ram? Used to build computers a long long time ago and didn't want to upgrade without knowing so your video is very helpful, and you definitely look like you know your stuff. Thanks in advance
@GlennBerrySQL
@GlennBerrySQL 2 года назад
You should be able to easily add two more SATA drives to this system, since there are two empty SATA ports on the motherboard. They could be 2.5" or 3.6" drives, although 2.5" drives would be easier. If you want to add another stick of DDR4-3200 RAM, it needs to have the exact same specs as the original stick (as far as CL timings) or else it will run at a slower speed (like DDR4-2666). Good luck!

This particular SKU comes with one 16GB stick of DDR4-3200 RAM. 16GB is actually enough for most games and most general usage. The problem with only one stick of RAM is that you are running in single-channel mode, which reduces your memory bandwidth. If you can afford one more 16GB stick of RAM, you will be in dual-channel mode. Make sure to get a stick of RAM with identical specifications to the one that is already in the system, so that it will run at the full DDR4-3200 speed.

@GlennBerrySQL
@GlennBerrySQL 2 года назад
@@paulleighton5025 The brand of the RAM doesn't matter as much as the exact specifications that are shown on the existing stick that is in the system now. It should be DDR4-3200, and the CAS Latency (CL) is probably 19 or 21 (which is pretty loose). You want another stick that exactly matches what you already have.

@GlennBerrySQL
@GlennBerrySQL Год назад
I would not do that. The stock power supply can't handle it, plus the card probably won't fit in the case. If you really want an expandable, upgradeable system, I would remove the CPU, RAM, and storage from this system and put those parts into a better standard case with a better standard motherboard and a better power supply.

Hi, would you still recommend this hp pc one year later? It sells at Best Buy for $800+. I have a 12 year old iMac 24" and was thinking of buying the new Mac Studio Max. I do mainly word processing but would like to try some video editing. I don't play video games on computers. The Mac Studio is $2200 with one terabyte ssd, but it's much better built and probably much more reliable than the hp Ryzen 7. Which one would you buy? I would appreciate your advice.
@GlennBerrySQL
@GlennBerrySQL 2 года назад
Well, those two machines are not really very comparable or even in the same class. I you want to spend less money than $2200, you can buy or build a PC that would be great for word processing and light video editing for less than half of that. The HP in this video would work (especially if you add a second stick of RAM).

Does it have to be the same the RAM stick as inside the system? or can I switch both out for Corsair Vengeance RGB pro 16GB (2pk 8GB)?
@GlennBerrySQL

If you want your RAM to run at the full DDR4-3200 XMP speed, the second stick needs to have the exact same specifications as the first stick. HP does not expose a BIOS setting to mess with the memory timings like DIY motherboards do.

This is a fairly small case with mediocre ventilation, but it should be fine for daily use with a Ryzen 7 5700G. Everyone has a different tolerance for fan noise. If you are very sensitive to noise, building a machine from parts would let you pick components that are less noisy.

I wanted though to add still more hard drive capacity. Can something like this take a third drive and, if so, can that drive be a SCSI drive? SCSI tends to be larger and cheaper.
@GlennBerrySQL

I presume you mean a SATA drive, not SCSI? Most of these small HP systems have two open SATA ports and SATA power connectors. This is in addition to the M.2 slot on the motherboard.

@@GlennBerrySQL No, actually. I have another PC with an 8TB internal SCSI drive and wanted to be able to switch PCs if I needed to. It's in an old Dell XPS machine and I installed the 8TB drive ages ago so I'm fuzzy on what I had to do. I think I needed to install a SCSI board in one of the slots and that provided the data connector. I think the power connector was through the regular motherboard. Is the M.2 slot what the SSD plugs into? So that would mean two non-SSD drives.
