If the bios are locked then it may sometimes show the bios loading on the screen but it might not ever load. You would not be able to change any of the settings. If you did end up with a bios locked computer you will need to find a master bios password, and you can usually only get that from the computer maker like HP or Dell. If you bios does load but you can't change any settings there is a good chance that there is a user password setup for the bios, and you would need to know the password. For some older computers you might be able to find leaked bios master passwords online, but it's very hard to find them. If your bios does load, and you can change setting but you can't turn on some things then disable secure boot and try and turn off legacy driver support. You really have not provided enough for me to determine if your bios is locked. If you know that the bios are in fact locked there is not much you can do about it without the master bios password. You can try to remove the cmos battery and change a jumper on the motherboard but that rarely works.

Windows 11 is not compatible with a lot of things. It will not even install on some laptops that are only a couple of years old.

Maybe you should have looked at the date. it was made 3 years ago.

@@christopherhorton821 I got a hold of 2 HP PowerBook 6550b, with the i5 CPU (duo core), & Win 7 Pro. They work but the screens are messed up! I was considering upgrading the CPU to a quad core but may not be worth it. Thank you 🤓

@@j.lietka9406 For the cost it of the screens it might not be worth it, but you could remove the broken screens and use a regular monitor. Then a upgrade might be worth it. It would also depend on how much ram is in them.

@@christopherhorton821 for right now, I believe it's 4 GB DDR 3. But it can be upgraded to 16 GB. Yeah, a replacement screen (would like a 900p!) Is a bit high.

No version of windows XP x64 was any good. If you are going to use XP stay with the 32 bit version. It had way less bugs. I have a duel boot with XP 32bit and Linux Mint 64 bit.

@@christopherhorton821 I'm currently using cinnamon for my probook 6470b. I was originally going to install Enterprise but I think mint was the right choice for this computer.

@@idkhistory5850 I'm glad that you found a nice OS for your old probook. It's a shame that everything that they make now days is throw away and replaceable.

The probook does not boot from the CD-DVD Drive but it will boot from a usb flash drive. First put in the flash drive that has your bootable OS on it and then tap the ESC key. when the list comes up hit F9. and then pick the boot option from USB. If this does not work then secure boot has to be turned off.

My girlfriend has a desktop and a laptop and both her machines run windows 7 with a duel boot of windows 7 64 bit and Linux Mint 64 bit. I myself have two laptops and one runs a duel boot of windows 7 and Linux Mint 64 bit. The one that I am using right now has a duel boot of windows XP 32 bit and Linux Mint 64 bit.

Because Secure Boot in the bios does not allow it.

What type of password are you looking for. If you laptop is bios locked then it takes a special password from HP to get it unlocked. You can also try these steps for a bios locked laptop. h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/HP-ProBook-6560b-BIOS-password-reset/td-p/5960686

To remove a BIOS password you either need to know the password that was installed, OR you need to get a master password from the company. HP and Dell and all other computers and Laptops have a master password installed in the chips. Those passwords are very hard to find, and in some cases you would have to purchase it from the company. If you are lucky you might be able to find a master password online, but be very careful when installing those passwords since you can only put in the wrong password so many times before the computer will get Bios Locked. If it was a windows password that you needed to bypass or change that is a different story since there are programs that will do that, but there is no way to remove a Bios password using software.
