HP Slimline 290 p0043w CPU Upgrade Replace Removal, step by step instruction, desktop processor 

hi David..i have the same PC model using i-3 8100. Will it work if i upgrade the cpu to i-5 8400 or i-7 8700? thanks before

@@MichaelDevson Yes, at the 1:26 mark I actually discuss the CPU's that they recommend and that is on the list. I have also upgraded mine with an I3-9100 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DdI9R28K9Lg.html So it is quite possible that an I5-9400 or I7-9700 would work. I would avoid the ones that end in k though.

Since this is still integrated graphics going from the Celeron to either a I5-8400 or I5-9400 or I5-9500, FPS will still not be very good. Only way to truly game on this is to use a ribbon extender and use a GPU externally. One that does not require 6 pin GPU power.

If I was an electronics or computer engineer (and not a mechanical engineer), I would probably say sure...anything is possible if you know what you are doing. That said, this motherboard is proprietary and it not going to be plug and play. While HP does make some big desktops that you could probably do it with, this computer would have issues with where all the I/O ports are, bolt pattern...than the PSU would probably not power a motherboard without different adapters. the best you could make this into a gaming desktop would be to get a GTX 1050 with a PCIE ribbon extender and leave the cover. Sorry, this is not the news you want to hear.

@@PC_HardwareTechUnboxing_1 so I got bored and caught some sales, you can take the cpu and hdd out and drop it into a B365 mobo, and it will work.

Though I still own this, I have never upgraded it as I have a small collection of custom build computers. That said, I would imagine the best card is a NVIDIA GT 1030 Low Profile. When I had the Dell 3470 that twas the best it could handle...and after doing a quick google search, I would think that is also the case for this PC. Other option would be a PCIE ribbon cable like I do in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8f7lxEIu1y0.html This is realistically the only way to get somewhat decent performance out of this computer.

You should be ok. It has been awhile since I did this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SEfO0g94a7I.html I installed an I3-9100 in there. Huge difference. I5-9400 would be even better...bug gaming still will not be that great without a graphics card.

David Noble yea that’s why I also got the RTX 1650 low profile to go with it, but I’m not for certain if that mix will do any good

I have only added a gpu via PCIE reibbon extender. Basically, the GPU was outside of the case. I believe you could probably get a GT 1030 Low Profile to work, which would barely be much of a gain for gaming.
