its difficult to remove my CMOS Battery with A knife. do i have to use Screw driver? i changed some settings that i changed to boot into windows 7 i have a HP Z220 Workstation and after pressing the CMOS button my pc starts to spin SUPER Super fast and makes loud sound with the fans is it normal?
I changed the PCI slot settings in BIOS enabled "compute" on all slots. Now my PC will not reboot In BIOS I get 6 beeps and red flashes. Some PC's that's an error for CPU. HP the code is graphics. By changing the settings it is not recognizing my graphics card. And cant reset the settings because wont boot far enough for me to get into BIOS. I've tried removing the battery, resetting the CMOS button and changed out the graphics card to a known good one. IT is not returning BIOS to default. It HP Z400.

I used to assemble these every single day. You should always unplug the computer from the mains if it's a laptop you should take the battery out once this is done you then remove the CMOS battery. Once you have done that you should switch it on without its supply that will drain the last bit of energy out of the motherboard. If you do not the CMOS can last for over an hour taking the static supply from the motherboard. So you always unplug the mains supply first. Remove the CMOS battery and then switch on the computer count to 10 and put the battery back in. I used to do these every single day.

Similar 3 volt battery holder is used in the HP Z440 workstation. The battery is not the easiest to remove . . . . you need to push it sideways against the spring, and then flip it up. Battery re-insertion is piss easy. A fresh new battery can have an open-circuit voltage as high as 3.4v, but open-circuit voltage reading is only an indication of the battery state. You need to load-test any battery to get a true estimation of the level of discharge. If load-testing a suspected low CMOS battery, remember that the maximum current draw for most CR2032's is about 10mA to 15mA, so therefore you need to put a load resistor with a value of at least 350 ohm in parallel with the probes of your voltmeter for a margin of safety. (Some endurance drain tests use a 15k ohm resistor to plot the depletion-rate graphs over many hours, where the end-point is 2.0v on a battery with a capacity of 210mAh). Recycle any exhausted batteries, help the planet!
Hello, i have z440 workstation, today it failed to boot, when i press the power button, the led turns white, the fans are working and everything is quite, but the monitor show nothing as if its not connected, i checked everything like cables and so on, even tried another monitor but same problem,,, after about 5 mins from pressing power if i let it sit, the cpu fans get louder and louder, so i long press and hold for 5 secs on power to shut it off,... My question, does removing the cmos battery help in that case or not? Could you please help me?
i have a z820 and am getting 4 beeps and 4 red led with 2 second break intervals. i have removed cmos battery for 10 minutes with mains power unplugged and motherboard discharged. but still wont boot. still get the 4 beeps and red led's. any idea? i tested power supply without being plugged in to pc and the fans go so means power supply is fine, so must be another issue.
Thanks for this video, super helpful. I bought a couple of Z620s which are close in the Zx20 family. I couldn’t get the bios screen to display on boot up. Tried everything and now after your video removed the battery, put it back in and it is still not booting. Has all the characteristics of a boot (including a beep) but no BIOS screen, even trying F10. Most bizarre. So if removing the battery doesn’t work, what do you think MIGHT be the problem ?
do weak battery makes booting up little long while spinning fans at full for a while? i have a z420 and like sometimes it boot up late and fans spins at full speed then it boot up, not every time but like 1 out 5 times. what's the actual cause of it?
I have z620 . Suddenly it turned off while I was working . Then no display and fan suddenly starts to tun speed after 30 seconds of switching on.. any solution
It is not working for me. Mine is z600. I wrongly changed bios setting for PCIE slot as compute. Then it is not detected my graphic card. I removed bios battery and leave the whole night. Look like it doesn't clear the bios setting. 😥
My Z820, bought from ebay (listed as for parts, not working), has no beep codes. The computer will power on then after about 30 seconds the fans will spin up to max and there is no video display. I've tried clear CMOS, I've removed the battery, I've tried the using the crisis recover jumper with a bios .bin file on a flash drive. Nothing worked. I have confirmed the CPUs work in another computer, the GPU works and the RAM. I think the only other conclusion is dead motherboard. Is there anything I missed? Thanks.
@@trichyjenny both of your cases seem to be related to power supply unit or system boards failures, there's abundant replacement boards for those machines on ebay, since they are really old they should not cost much
