Glad you could find the replacement meter! Another win for the good guys! 73 - Dino KL0S

+Dino Papas Me too! After searching around it seems that these meters were used in a lot of HP products, just with different printed scales and part numbers, so it's actually pretty easy to find replacements.

Correct, some movements where different current but I've swapped a good dozen of them for the same reason. Since all the bezels have pretty much the same issue from the plastizier going bye-bye I've been somewhat successful cutting of the old sides and making my own.

LOL, when I saw the broken bezel one thing came to mind - Duct Tape!

@4:40 you obviously wanted to say 550 milliamps, not millivolts... ;-) I much prefer hot glue to duct tape, but nice job nonetheless.

LOL. The engineering solution is more reliable in this case :)

NEVER NEVER spray anything into a meter movement unless you know what you are doing. If the spring has not been damaged, the next place to look is for contamination between the coil and pole piece. Since your meter became opened due to shock, it will soon attract anything magnetic. Or even bits of plastic from electrostatic attraction. It takes time and practice but the bits can be removed with out having to take the movement apart. If like some of the ones I use to repair the movement will be full of bits of steel and iron. Then you have to take the movement apart, doable but getting it aligned up again takes practice. Tools for removing contamination are usually home made but easy to make, non magnetic bits can be removed with compressed air (see below). For magnetic crap a j-hook can be made from a strip of stiff Mylar, we use to use drafting film and then cut out a hook in one end. Be careful not to damage any of the winding(s). The only thing one should "spray" is dry OIL free air. We use to use dry nitrogen. The key being dry and totally oil free so that means no cheap air compressors. And when done, if the face-plate is plastic put on the inside some anti-static, which can be a simple as dish detergent. But only a very very thin layer rubbed on.
