If you use a bit of rolled up aluminium foil or play doh , roll it into a thin cylinder shape an put it on the air filter in an upright position then shut the bonnet an it will crush down to show how much clearance hight you have to the bonnet

Yep Holley drop base - I have a Terminator EFI on my 65 Nova (from the Skid Factory so assume you've seen it) ;) and the stock lid fits in the stock location/height no probs. PART# 120-511

You might have some issues with the dual-plane manifold. Lots of experiences online about the problems a dual-plane causes versus a single plane with sniper EFI. I am running on my Mopar 440 and I love it. Hadn't started the car for a couple of months, but a 5 second prime of the pump, and she started right away.

@@HackshopGarage Not really sure. I now engine masters did a video on it a while ago and just couldn't get it to run right. Once they switched to the single plane, it ran perfectly. Have read quite a few things on forums and videos of similar problems. Seems to be the way the fuel is distributed through the dual versus the single. But if you don't have issues then all good. Maybe more of an issue on higher horsepower motors.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but from what I’ve seen the 4 barrel sniper kits don’t seem to like dual plane manifolds. The cure has been a 1/2 inch open spacer, or to mill down the plenum divider. Great channel btw 🤘

What size Sniper did you go with on the 253? Most carb websites suggest 450-500cfm for the 253

@@HackshopGarage no worries. How is it going a few months on? I have just had a 253 rebuilt, blueprinted/balanced and modded for strong street/drivable power. I was thinking about a Edlebrock AVS2 500cfm, but i must admit, this Sniper is very interesting

Pretty sure it's got 4 injectors and they spray above the blade's and the hole's below are air circuits I

Hi guys to check your bonnet clearance go to the toy shop & get a tub of playdough and put blobs on your air cleaner and you can measure the amount of claerance you have.

@@HackshopGarage I’m awaiting the diff to return atm I have taken out the welded diff it came with tossed that when and brought a MACE TOUQE LSD CENTER and brought all new diff rebuild bearings and new shims started to rebuild it all and found that the pinion lash had actully moved forward ten thou so marching off to the specialist to get it machined so it would fit but then the crush barring had to be realigned and all that crazy dialing in for the back lash was just all to much so I out sourced the rebuild lol......so in the mean while I rebuild all the back suspension to Au heavy top and bottom trailing bars and sway bar and Whitt’s link with all new nurothanine rubbers which wasn’t easy as all the old ones where crazy stuck but all done ready for the new diff to arrive .......then out of the big bad blue came a new full time job last week and so I have been move ing to Launceston which is great as I am only now twenty minutes from Simmons plaines our race track yay instead of like two hours but I’m now haveing to move very thing over the next few weeks so I’m a bit behind I have the loom and computer actully installed but I’m now trying to work out how every thing actully goes together to the old loom I’m using the premium wiring loom from haltech also wide band and flex fuel I have got the race works pump installed and new high out put injectors fuel regulator is in new turbo is hear but it’s massive so will need a lot of fab work before that goes on also the power tune digital dash has to be put in and that will be a huge task as well it’s all on the bench ready to go in but I’m now building kitchens five days a week now so I guess it will be night time activity’s from hear on in

Well lads, I am about to fit a Sniper on my HQ Sandman ute 308 ute. First, though I have to sort out fitting a new Camshaft 214/224 @050, lifters, water pump, HP oil pump & twin-row timing chain. I am hoping to make a video on my journey soon. My Sniper was purchased from Summitt USA plus the Hyperspark CDI, Dizzy & coil. The Edelbrock Performer I have modified via an RPM style mill of the center divider which will then have a 1-inch four-hole spacer hopefully from Jet or Taylor cable. The Sniper can be really tuned via a laptop plus Holley software. You can data log the tune and send it to a mob that I got my Hyperspark system from and they can do up a fuel/ignition map from that to suit the engine. AFR can be easily adjusted via the 3.5 screen. I also got a progressive throttle linkage that opens the primary blades 40% before the secondaries open. Very recommended they say. Lettuce Alone paint I believe.

SO GOOD theres other guys appreciating these small block chevs in disguise. so many things you can do to them....A very cool engine. Vs tank is simple i have done a few Cap the old filler, weld in the hq filler Use the orginal straps, the other thing i do is add foam to the top to level the top of the tank to the floor Downside is the fuel gauge doesn't match ohms range of the hq gauges Paint it black and you don't notice it much, on my current q i have a towbar and that hides it more

Yeah with a tow bar that wouldn’t be so bad. We have heard it’s a good alternative, hence why we were going to use it. But we have found an option now

United speed shop have just made a efi ready tank to suit hq sedans. Also might be worth looking into a progressive linkage for the 4 barrel. Primary’s open till 50% throttle then secondaries open if you ever need it for the thongslapper. Awesome video👍

Silly question probably, but if you are going for stock appearance, could you internally gut the mechanical pump (valves and actuating arm out) and just flow the fuel through stock appearing lines while letting the electric pump do the work? Just wondering...

That is a good question, I wouldn’t know for sure. I guess it would depend on if the stock pump casing would handle the increased pressure EFI requires

A old trick we used to do is flip. The air cleaner lid. It gives. It a bit more air in..i personally love the 253 over the 308. Come on boys you could have run the fuel lines now.. When you were playing with accelerator pedal it sounded like no cabin insulation[ dyna mat]?????

You do realise that there are aftermarket air cleaners with reduced bases to drop the whole air cleaner down over your carb / throttle body ? Only issue you may have is with engine movement may scrub under bonnet . I lost an engine mount and banged up my bonnet pretty good !

Nice work fellas i did actually find this channel from watching skid factory , just a thought what fuel pressure does this system run could you do like an LS dead head system ( non return) with the pressure regulated fuel filter as they have used on skid factory then there is no need to modify the tank

G'day lads great episode really keen to see part 2. Just a suggestion the Sniper EFI would be classed as an TBI (Throttle body injection) unit not carburettor as mentioned a few times in episode 1. As I'm sure you will keep up the good work.

i just brought one for my 308, i cant understand what to do with my temp sensor as i only have one slot but also want the gauge cluster to still work would you have any idea

Other than drilling and tapping a second port into the manifold water way, an easy way might be to move the gauge sensor to read off and inline radiator hose sensor adaptor

Easy way to determine if your bonnet is going to hit, place some playdough or bluetac on top of the filter and close your bonnet, you'll easily tell how much gap you have. You're welcome =)

crunch up some alli foil into a ball, works brilliant. also great for wrapping around wiring, hoses etc when painting, cleaning under the bonnet.

Well I can tell u both fuel consumption will take some manual tuning to get better. I average 15mpg on highway with rowdy 440 cubic inch small block chevy with no overdrive. Th400 trans 3.42 rear gear and 28in tire

Where did you get the instructions for the drilling of the manifold from? I have the exact same manifold but it’s second hand without instructions and needs drilling. Any info you guys are happy to share with that? Cheers

So Self-Learning isnt as it says (be all and end all). EFI will find your vacuum leaks - number 1! It does the basics of working out what your car needs to idle and run. But you might find stumbles, and tip in issues, or backing-off pops etc. Thats where you need to tune it yourself, and play with after-start, warm starts, fuel input vs rpm, fuel pump delivery (pwm or full), vacuum vs tps input, IAC and coolant temps and AFRs. Fuel pumps, fuel filters (10/30 microns) are also a very big part to getting these to work properly. Takes a bit to get it right. Not taking away what you guys are doing, just letting those who want to do this, that there is more to this EFI system than putting it on, and whacking in base engine settings, and turning key. Once its tuned though...geez it makes a difference, particularly with cold starts! Dont worry guys - love your channel....just offering advice and disclaimers :)

Once its up and running, so you reckon you will swap to a Holley Hyperspark distributor? (They are available for 253/308) Would be interesting to see the difference once the ECU is controlling spark..
