Great video!! I almost completely forgot about HQ trivia until I just saw this. I used to play regularly once or twice a day for almost a year. I go to concerts and right at the stage at 9 pm I'd play lol. It all went to crap after the quiz daddy left.

@@theicebooky Yeah but the beasty boy has a consistant cash flow. He started giving it away when he got bored with it. HQ had it's income from investors. Investors will stop investing but viewers won't stop viewing.

i remember when all my friends and co workers were obsessed with this. i never tried it though because i couldn't figure out how they were making money and that scared me. i guess the reason i couldn't figure out how they were making money was because they weren't making money.

Hey Caya, Can you do an episode on JUMIA? It is said to be the Amazon of Africa.. In April 2019 it was listed on the NYSE and claimed to be the 1st African start-up to do so, well what could possibly go wrong??? However 6 months later it ceases to operate in numerous countries in Africa due to a series of events and controversies surrounding the company. such as its lack of its truth about being 'African' , terrible management, the Samwer brothers etc. Wish you could dig into the origin, past and future of the company said to be the Amazon of Africa… Are we experiencing the rise of another Amazon? or the Fall of what is to be the Amazon of Africa? one of the countries they pulled out from was my country,Tanzania. It was vividly clear even by just looking from a distance, that the company wasnt doing good at all.The african market is different and their approach was wrong from the beginning. They use the same models most american ecomerce companies use and forget that the continent is its own beast, i bet its not long before they close all the doors in the continent. Imagine i a working class tanzanian whom i assume should be their target customer but i have never ordered nor hear anyone i know order from jumia. Its insane All the tech companies that have succeeded a bit or lot in africa were ideas from africans or led by africans. Eg MPESA or here we have max malipo and celcom. The people who run these companies understands the culture well and dont try to change it. Another bomb is uber. soon they will also close their doors in Tanzania am sure.

@@itsshopboy the market is there, but the approach needs to change. I ve seen it many times over that when companies are led by people from outside of africa, they tend to look down on their local employees. Its that, am from one of the most advanced country in the world and you are from one of the poorest, what would you know that i dont know, kind of attitude. the African market place is sooo chaotic and irregular that you need to have lived here for years to even understand whats happening. the funny thing is even if you are a manager, you would only be commissioned to oversees operations and never to steer nor contribute on the direction of the company. for me personally i think for any tech business to function in africa.. One thing has to happen. Collaboration. The outsiders should bring over financial and technical assistance while the locals contribute massively on product development.

I remember when this was big - I worked at a cafe and when it came on, normally we weren't too busy, so even the supervisors would drop things to use our phones. Not if a customer was there obviously! I won it once but only got a few cents. It was fun but also by its nature flash-in-the-pan, so I wasn't playing by the time any of this happened. It's a weird trend in the cyber-age where investors throw money at whatever gets a lot of users even if the nature of the product is that people will leave if it ever costs money or runs out of funding.

There's a Swedish/Norwegian/Danish/Finnish version (one for each country) called "Primetime" and it's actually really fun. Just like with HQ, everyone who wins, gets the money evenly split. I won 0.10 Norwegian kroners yesterday. that's just 0.011 US dollars, but it's something. 😂

“HQ was wildly successful” … at spending money. Any business can do that. The trick - the normal thing we mean when we say “successful” - is to make profit. So by that metric. HQ was wildly *unsuccessful.* DAUs don’t mean anything if it doesn’t convert to profit.

I’m in the uk and I never had a problem with our version. It’s a shame they couldn’t get it to work because I think it still would be huge. I think extra lives and pre roll ads would have made it work.
