Do you tune with low power first? Once the atu learns the swr/freq and then you jump back up to 100watts, do you have to re-tune again? Or can you just tune with rig set at 100watts? Also, I noticed that you tuned 6m band but this tuner only tunes up to 30mhz? How’d you get that to work? Can this atu really tune 6m?? I just ordered one through gigaparts. Thanks keep up the good videos!!!

Hi Ang, Thank you for writing in. It tuned mine on 6 m after the second try. But that could simply be just the type of antennas I was using. I was using the HyGain AV 680 vertical on this video. It also tunes at low power. Looking back, I had made a really crummy mistake here and was tuning at 100 watts. Not good why and it my mistake. I typically tune my rig at 5-10 watts, however some MFJ autotuners (998, 994 etc) you need to use at least 20 watts on tuning. It’s been a great tuner for me Ang. On a sidenote my friend, I have the 939 and the 998 desktop and RT version. The 939 is my favorite. It’s just so fast. Easy to hook up. The 939 is my favorite because of its speed and effectiveness. I found it won’t tune as many combinations as the 994 and 998, but it does what I needed it to do and lightning fast. Enjoy yours. Larry

Has anyone tried this with a Yaesu FT-710 yet? I just purchased one and cannot get it to tune anything other than 20 meters using a 20 meter dipole which doesn't even need a tuner to tune. All it does anywhere else is try, try and try before lighting the high SWR light and sending me some CW messages that are sent so fast, I can't even copy them. I have used a manual MFJ tuner with some good results but this one? OMG, what a waste of time. It literally does nothing for me. Further, the interface cable doesn't even allow me to use the rig's tune button to initiate the tune. Thought I'd do myself a favor and get away from the manual tuners, but this one sure doesn't look like the answer. Maybe it's defective! I don't know. Any ideas?

That's impressive. The tuner in my 991A is super slow. It does it's job but just too slow. I have the MFJ 929 and it works pretty much the same as the 939 but it's bigger. Size matters when operating portable so it looks like the 939Y is a needed item for me. Barry
