Interesting to see the new tunnel for the Greenway taking shape under Cromwell Lane at 2:35 - I look forward to walking the length once completed (happy memories from about 1980 when the original line closed). Also useful to see the progress eastwards at 7:30 towards the A46.
Nice video, thanks for making the effort. Was expecting more of an update. Seems to be no progress to the southern (?) side of the temporary bridge. Be interesting to see how the area takes shape once they start piling all the soil back over the top and returning the area back to nature
1:00 Tons of expensive rebar knocking about. I hope that is going to be used somewhere. It looks like they've planted a few trees to 'offset' the carbon created in this part of the project.
They will have to link the western end of the southern portal to the long cutting (under the Cromwell Lane road site) - that will consume significant quantities of rebar given the height/depth/width of the completed tunnel. You don't want to run out when you are linking the last bit of the tunnel, do you?
Anybody know why those two rows of square 'hatches' are on the portal roof ?. are they going to be open to allow wind/air to pass through as trains enter & exit at speed ?.
I suppose the local councils are more to blame for objecting to the noise pollution. On the other hand maybe scrap hs2 and continue with our over crowded out of date transport network which we already have. If you listen often enough you can hear those that bitch about the waste of money hs2 is they are the ones that constantly moan about our current infrastructure. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. What would they recommend to improve our transport system??????.
Isn't that a massive waste of money when a cutting would do the job? That's one reason it's so over budget, all the unnecessary tunnelling for political reasons
The original plan was for a retained cutting, but huge opposition changed this to a cut-and-cover tunnel. There are examples like this all along the route, like the tunnel at Itchington Wood, orginally to be a cutting, and also at Chipping Warden where a cut-and-cover tunnel is being built so the area of the old aerodrome can continue in use as a commercial site. From Old Oak Common to Ruislip there is space for the line to run on the surface, but again a political decision was made to put the line in tunnel. Wendover, yet another artificial tunnel, even though the existing railway is closer to Wendover ! Yes, the line design was Gold Plated, or even Solid Gold !
Blame the NIMBYS, naysayers, Greens and the liberal left sandal wearing do gooders who 'demand' we halt multi million pound projects because a family of newts has been found.... 🤦♂🤦♂
