I went through this a few months ago. The immediate side effects of treatment weren’t nearly as rough as I’d been expecting, and I’d pretty much recovered to baseline a month or so after I got back. I’m now feeling better than I did before I went. Still too early to say if that’s going to last, but its looking good so far. I’d recommend a trip to Moscow for pretty much anyone with RRMS

Hi, I’m really considering doing this treatment. I’m in my begging of my MS. However, I’m concerned about the mortality rate. This the thing I’ve been thinking of all the time. After a lot of research there is people died from HSCT. And there is 2 cases happened in Moscow in 2020 even though the success rate for others was high and changed their life!. Idk about after that date if they got more mortality. From your perspective would you recommend it to me?

I'm 29 years old and still fully able to walk around all day long without any assistance, despite this, I've been having many symptoms of MS and most likely PPMS, I am just waiting on my MRI test results. Is there any data anywhere about how effective HSCT is for a younger person with PPMS who has not yet suffered any major disability?
@AHSCT-RUSSIA
@AHSCT-RUSSIA 6 месяцев назад
The rate of MS stabilization and improvement for RRMS - 85-95%, for PPMS/SPMS - 65-75%. Early transplantation - is most effective. We suggest, that the best candidates for transplantation are relatively young patients with active inflammatory lesions of relatively short duration and rapidly progressive disease, but still low disability scores, resistant to conventional therapy. Cumulative incidence of disease progression was quite low both for RRMS and PrMS. After you would receive your MRI report (no images required - only report), proceed to complete questionnaire, describing you previous treatment and current functional status, in order to define whether HSCT is a meaningful and safe treatment option individually for you hsct-russia.com/application-for-treatment

turned me off at 1:08 - MS does not 'inevitably bring the patient into a wheelchair' I know lots of people who have MS who do not use wheelchairs. I don't believe this will happen to me either. I can walk relatively well with minimal assistance - I am on an effective DMT. I don't believe there will be much progression. I have a friend who has been diagnosed 30 years. She rarely uses walking aids. My moth is diagnosed 30 years. She uses a walker most of the time now but this has only been in the last few years.
@AHSCT-RUSSIA
@AHSCT-RUSSIA 2 года назад
This phrase should not be taken out of context. It is not independent, but it continues the idea of the main theses of the film. And in this case, it will be correct to discuss the meaning of the film as a whole. However, as we have noticed, this issue has been raised repeatedly, so we will clarify our logic. EDSS is used to assess the course of MS in a patient. This index reflects the degree of disability of the patient. The progression (fast or slow) of MS is characterized by an aggravation of the degree of disability, the value of which reflects the EDSS. Therefore, the beginning of the period when the patient will not be able to do without a wheelchair depends on the rate of MS progression, on the age of the patient, and other comorbidities. The MS insidiousness lies in the fact that the patient does not die from MS, but from the consequences caused by the degree of his disability. And there's no doubt, there are patients who successfully fight MS and do not have to resort to a wheelchair. These are those patients for whom the issue of choice of the treatment type has already been resolved and they do not feel the need to change the method. In our film, we talk about the one of the existing methods, which is intended to stop the progression of MS in those cases, where therapy used is not effective enough.
@ivonna.tinkle
@ivonna.tinkle 2 года назад
Everyone's experience is different, your comment is all anecdotal, and not that useful. If DMT meds works for you then great, for me it was terrible. I know that being wheelchair bound is a VERY real possibility so in 2018 I had HSCT in Russia with Doctor F. My last MRI shows that I have not any new or active lesions, it looks like HSCT halted the progression of MS, at this time DMT meds don't halt the progression of MS.

@@ivonna.tinkle I'm so glad that this worked for you. DMT's do stop the progression, not necessarily permanently but many for a long time. I know people who've done DMT;s who've not had progression for more than 5 years - that's significant. For me, so far, just one year but the drug that I'm on has only been available for four years -there are certainly people who've had no progression for that long.
@brendakerber7923
@brendakerber7923 2 года назад
@@AHSCT-RUSSIA thanks for the explanation. You should change your language though. It's pretty hard to take the phrase MS inevitably brings the patient into a wheelchair out of context. That's pretty clear. It's also ableist to say 'resort to a wheelchair' - if you need a wheelchair, use one, they are great tools that make people's lives better. I just got a walk and wow! the difference in my fatigue! I will only be using it under certain circumstances but under those circumstances it will make my life so much better!

HSCT still induces early menopause by shortening the period for menopause onset for about 10 years for women. that is still very drastic. This sometimes decreases the quality of life and life expectancy for women. I hope these HSCT protocols will one day will be available without chemotherapy or at least much less toxicity. This is certainly a good start and close to the magic cure, but still no there yet

How do you define early menopause? I understood it wont cause immediate menopause in most patients who are under 40, but as early menopause is considered < 45, it will cause most patients to reach menopause earlier by 5-10 years than they normally would, which will usually be before 45.
