The house is a character in itself.

My oldest grand child has a step mom. And the step mom is wonderful. . But. I do now some step parents are not the best. Our family is blessed to have this one. She is great. My grand daughter loves her sooo much.

I seriously believe that she had been thinking about this for awhile but on that particular day, that she just snapped. I think that she used the irons and they were looking for the wrong weapon. There is also evidence of a clean up. Bridget had to have known something about this.

No. The sister wasn’t home- she was away. Lizzie didn’t have blood on her, and didn’t have time to change. The murder weapon had to be a hatchet- Andrew’s eye was split.

Lizzy had motive, means and opportunity. As they say if you follow the money, she stood to gain and she did get the lifestyle she craved. A plausible theory I heard was that she could even have worn her father's coat to protect herself from splatter. That being said, I agree there isn't enough evidence to convict especially for a capital crime.

I have been interested in this case since I saw "The Legend of Lizzy Borden" staring the amazing Elizibeth Montgomery. I was 9 years old at the time and the fact that she was found not guilty confused me as a kid, especially when I saw her do it. 😂 It was later that I understood the nuances of the case.

The murders were about pent-up rage and hatred. They were not a planned hit. As Sarah states at the end of the podcast, if Bridget snapped she could have just quit. Also, a hired killer would have planned it way better.

One must remember that the Civil War Era had two tiers of war participants: persons of means could "purchase" their way out of draft regulations; persons of lesser means could not avoid Lincoln's draft.

I just feal like the 2 weeks prior to the deaths rub me the wrong way. The conviance of coming back 4 days before the murder.. is strange. Like had they gone to see the uncle and he came back with them, to help pull off the perfect crime... ??? Idk but anyway it is. Great mystery. Thanks for the candied conversation . With many points of interest.

I’ve read Ms. Miller’s book, I recommend it along with Cara Robertson’s and Victoria Lincoln’s. After reading Robertson’s book - particularly the inquest coverage - I was pretty convinced of her innocence due to Knowlton’s near-abusive approach in that proceeding.

I also think the ‘two killers’ idea is plausible. Even within the family… perhaps Lizzie, Emma & Morse planned & executed it together.

It’s strange to me how there is no evidence against Lizzie but everyone thinks she is guilty. Where does the evidence lead?

Lizzie had motive & opportunity. In the week before, old rows over Andrew gifting a home & money to Abbys half sister had resurfaced. Tensions were so high both Lizzie & Emma moved out for 3 days. On their return, Lizzie told friends they were ignoring Andrew & Abby & staying in their rooms all day. The front door was locked. So was the back door. Uncle John had an airtight alibi. Emma was in Fairhaven. Lizzie & Bridget would have noticed any intruder. Bridget cleaned the outside rear windows & chatted to next doors maid approx 9-10.30. So Lizzie was alone when Abby died at approx 9.30am. Her testimony at the inquest: she could not give a good account of where she was in the home when Abbys murder happened. If she was "eating pears, looking out the window in the barn" when Andrew died at 11am, she would have seen any intruder getting in at the back of the home. The maids testimony placed Lizzie next to the room Abby lay dead in at 10.40, while the maid was letting Andrew in. The maid, struggling with the lock, heard Lizzie laughing on the landing. The maid was in her attic bedroom, unwell, when Lizzie called for help at 11am saying Andrew was dead. Source: lizzieandrewborden.com, the best website on the case.

Maternal uncle from Iowa hears about his brother in law giving a house to his wife's half sister....well he makes a trip to discuss the man's will? And if Lizzie burnt the dress she wore, which dress did they have in court? If Maggie the maid went upstairs to nap after Mrs B was killed, how did she fail to see the body in the guest room? I think there was family pathology, too controlling of the daughters. Step mom doesn't seem to have loved the girls or played a maternal role which binds family together. Dad extremely controlling. Shoplifting, theft, lying by Liz are symptoms of over control, she needs to experience control over authority just to get that feeling of independence and agency.

The house, originally a duplex, had two staircases, one just off the kitchen at the rear of the house. The guest room with the stepmother's body could only be accessed via the front stairs. The maid's room was at the top of the rear stairway on the third story.

This is not true. Lizzie and her sister did get along with their stepmom and father. The father had bought some expensive land and granted it to the step mom family. This caused a rift between Lizzie, her sister, and Andrew. He tried to remedy it by buying them property, but they decided being landlords wasn’t their thing. They sold it back to him.

It had to be her. There is no way someone could have left the crime scene all bloody and not have been noticed. Plus, there was absolute hate inside the killer to murder in such a gruesome and overly done way.
