Something I love about this scene, is that it shows how powerful toothless is. We usually see him as a dorky playful dragon, but we forget how insanely strong he is.
They could've gotten that message through without giving Toothless a new power... Him being the last of his kind, which happens to basically be the fastest, most intelligent and most dangerous kind of dragon already made him kind of OP if they didn't level this out by the challenges he and Hiccup meet in the TV series. Toothless is now just a Mary Sue if you ask me, especially giving that he can fly on his own again.
This puts into perspective why nightfuries were so feared. Not only do they have incredible speed and natural camouflage, alongside a devastating attack and superior senses to most dragons, but also they have the ability to force storms to answer to them. A nightfury during the day can overpower and outpace most enemies and still use lightning and spontaneous storm clouds to gain a further advantage, and during natural storms and nighttime they are even more powerful. And then atop that, they also have the cloaking, for even stealthier attacks and getting out of sticky situations. It's made clear that the signature whine of an incoming nightfury is made intentionally, as sometimes they just don't do it, and at times Toothless shows himself capable of nearly silent flight beyond the sounds of wind, so they are truly almost impossible to see. The description in the first movie was most certainly accurate - the deadliest and the rarest.
I think the "signature whine" was meant more for modern audiences than the movies' characters, because it invokes the old Russian Stuka dive-bomber planes, or the whistling sound cartoons usually used for when bombs or heavy objects are dropping at high speed: it's a kind of sonic-based psychological warfare.
@@Filigree50x that would make a "boom". The whine is probably from a specialized form of air turbulence their bodies evolved to create in their wake as they dive.
For those asking how his tail fin could have disappeared, I believe in Hidden World Hiccup used some of his scales while making his tail fin. Because of that he could still heat up the tail enough that it could be reflective with the rest of him.
Well what about when toothless did this when hiccup was riding him the dragons attacking toothless died but hiccup was fine and even disappeared like toothless
@@absolutelynothing9636 Okay, super late to this one, but Hiccup's armor he was wearing at the time was covered completely in Toothless' scales. I assume that's why he also was able to disappear. Also, it seems like this is something only fury dragons can do, so that's why the other dragons fell.
In this scene I figure toothless has more armor in his scales then light fury because of the fact that he needs more than the heat of plasma to make his scales hot enough to be able to cloak. If it needs to be hotter his scales are thicker thus he can withstand a lot more damage then lightfuries (or other dragons) scales.
Yeah I felt the same way too when I saw the Light fury, I felt like she was less durable than toothless, and that toothless was more armored.. probably because of the way she was textured, not alot of scales i saw
I don't know if it's just me, but without the red tail fin it's hard to reconize him, when somebody hears ''Toothless'' there mind instantly thinks of the lovable night fury with a RED fin. I get that they coloured it black to match his scale colour, so that it would be easier for him to survive in the wild, because if you have a bright red fin on your tail your going to stand out like a sore thumb, but it's just so different seeing him without the iconic red fin, it's almost as if he's a different dragon..
Like he was before Hiccup shot him out of the sky with his bolas catapult. The impact of it ripped his original left tail fin off. Without it, Toothless couldn't get enough ballast in order to get airborne. His one ton body weight would just yank him back down.
yeah it was a bit disappointing not see toothless with his red fin, but another reason it was black was because they had painted and covered it with his own scales (like hiccup’s armor) and later in the we learn toothless can turn invisible due to the scales heating up and some kind of reason behind that, anyways, if the tail was red it would either melt the paint or just be visible when toothless turns invisible. Which would totally ruin the point of that ability. still, i agree, httyd 3 wasn’t really my favorite but it was still beautiful, and there are some parts you have to, at least, defend.
The unholy offspring of LIGHTNING and death itself . I just realized that valka is played by Kate blanchett who also played hela the goddess of death in Thor Ragnarok . Thor and hela represent lightning and death and the Vikings worship these Norse gods . I thought this was kinda interesting
You put a bit too much thought into this. Let's not forget that three dragons basically look the same or pretty similar. It's just lazy writing that's praised for the acting when it's really the cuteness of the dragons. And yes this is how a true nerd puts thought into something.
@@abeluli89 .....well.... Most, if not all gods in Norse , Greek and many other mythology ... Do incest sooooo. Oh wait you said symbolically , um nevermind
this is probably just me, but i love the light fury’s design- its so different yet familiar to a nightfury and im glad they didn’t get lazy and just made another toothless clone- the light fury has her own personality and reasonings besides “im toothless’s mate” & it’s incredibly cute
Anyone notice one of "the furies" saves hiccup in every movie? 1. Toothless saves him from fire (loses leg) 2. Toothless saves him from ice (becomes alpha) 3. Light fury saves from evil guy (helps toothless) 4. Toothless saves from falling off cliff (doesnt even know
@@C.Chandler-Lay Dorsal fins are for aquatic creatures, unless its a water based dragon the things on their back are called spines which are anchored in muscle, connected to the skeleton by a series of ligaments.
Beautiful. I love this scene. The lighting disappearing power, the adorable lick, the flight patterns, the score, the visuals... Just as breath taking as the first flight scene was.
@@Ned-nw6ge ikr, I'm not saying it's bad... I just feel like... I NEED MORE HTTYD. Bro this franchise had a huge impact on me. I got attached to the characters man.
Well, in the extended universe we were told that Night Furies and Skrills are related and that Night Furies are the Unholy Offspring of Lightning and Death so to finally see the lightning aspect of Toothless's power was worth the wait.
Something l love about this scene is that it shows how powerful toothless is we usually see him as a dorky playful dragon but we forget how insanely strong he is
I thought he always had this - especially in the first movie. Which should explain why he was never spotted every dragon raid. Toothless was shown kind of teleporting through a lightning in the first movie but the francise seemed to make it look like it only appeared that way because of how super fast Night Furies are. And then in the following series and movies, it's like Toothless' super speed-lowkey-teleportation was gone and completely forgotten. I had a thought before that maybe being friends with Hiccup and consequently becoming domesticated mellowed much of Toothless fiercest abilities that would allow him survival in the wild, such as his lightning speed ability. Sure, he's still fast with Hiccup on him, but not as deadly-as-a-predator fast.
I always thought that this power would be kind of redundant. He's already camouflaged in the night sky, when he naturally hunted before getting shot down. The only reason Hiccup was able to locate him was because Toothless blocked out the view of the stars behind him, and showed his silhouette when shooting the catapult with his plasma blasts. It kinda feels like they just wanted him to become the most powerful dragon ever so that he could be extra special, while this kind of power (= literal strength) wasn't what the night fury is known for in the first two movies. They didn't have to take the "unholy offspring of lightning and death itself" part seriously. It could be interpreted from the Night Fury being elusive and mysterious, and having dangerous, explosive plasma fire; a flash, like lightning, and a bang on impact, like thunder.
Yo. I thought when Toothless had those lightning bolts touch him, I thought it was like a super overpowered shot. Not invisibility. It would be legit cool if toothless shot electricity out of his mouth when he did that. A nightfury with a super overpowered shot, an electric flamethrower breath, and able to turn into a lightning bolt and go at fast speeds.
Look, everyone is excited about their powers and the cuteness, but my reasoning for liking these scenes is the fact that the dragons natural behaviours aren't shown that much really
my theory is that light fury flame is hotter than night fury flame - i replayed their blasts and the light fury's one is much bluer which uuuusually indicates a higher concentration of heat. In order for toothless to achieve that same temperature he probably had to resort to lightning and we can see he's pretty blasted after it. Its also possible that night fury scales are just that much more resistant and need a really really high temperature. (after all they both evolved in different habitats, night furies developed an affinity for hunting in the dark, thus being invisible when theyre active, and light furies just developed an easier time to become invisible for protection or hunting)
When I saw that scene in theaters I was like: "OK, Ok... definetly the night fury is the strongest" Because I thought getting invisible with the heat would be the coolest ability XD
How to train your dragon writer and director Dean DeBlois has a new vision for the series. Although he once planned to encapsulate the story in 3 parts, he recently said that he still thinks about continuing to expand this interesting dragon world: "I think if DreamWorks decides to make a How to train movie your new dragon, I hope it will be in a different timeline, talking about new characters while the story of Hiccup and Toothless remains intact. Fans always want to see a happy ending and How to train your dragon: Hinden world has satisfied them. They walked out of the theater with considerable satisfaction, many in tears as they had to say goodbye to one of the best animated franchises of all time. In order not to spoil the beautiful ending, Dean Deblois intends to choose other directions that are not related to the first 3 parts.
They could do episodes similar to race to the edge. Toothless and Hiccup are too iconic and it’s hard to say goodbye. They got Dragons 9 realms which is 1300 years into the future and have aspects relating to HTTYD. But bringing Hiccup and Toothless back for episodes not movie could be a good shout.
So their scales when exposed to enough heat will allow them to become transparent/invisible/ whatever it's called in this case. So dose that also apply to shedded scales because if so it is possible for hiccups armor to also have the same properties. So hiccup would also turn invisible if toothless did this. Or he'd be roasted alive either way it would have be worth trying out despite the risk.
I want to say something. The scene is absolutely beautiful and sends a message to young men. It's a beautiful thing to fall in love with someone who has the ability to enhance you, your inner self, and your ability to achieve anything you want in life. Look at the scene again and ponder what i said...😉
@@toasthieu4389 He just made a comment about a word I used. He was on point too. A really smart 7 year old who knows what ponder means. Did you know and how old are you? Hmm?
As much as I like HTTYD, I didn't like the 2nd and 3rd movies. They introduce a really cool mechanics (Alpha Night fury and electric powers) and then use it only once to defeat the villain. If I recall correctly, toothless didn't use his Alpha form during the entire 3rd film. Makes it look like that they just wanted excuses to make new toys
I mean, If we look back to httyd 1, when hiccup and toothless were flying, toothless shot a plasma blast, and they but flew in, it could been a foreshadow to this when they did this, just like how see toothless finally unlock this skill with the lightfury
@@madarasenju4262 At HTTYD 1, when Hiccup and Toothless were dropping from the sky because they made a fatal mistake, after flying through the forest and the rock formations successfully and Hiccup does a victory screech, Toothless shoots forward, and it cuts to Hiccup and Toothless resting on an island, Hiccup's hair burnt. Maybe it was all foreshadowing to this ability, where Toothless was attempting to camoflauge.
If a FEMALE night fury ever did something like that, I theorize that they don’t have to release as much energy as males so they have an easier and faster way of disappearing It’s like how easy the light firy does it but a few lightning sparks Because females are important for the species they must have some way to not stand out in stealth
1:26 Toothless: does it Light fury: nope still doesnt work 1:46 Toothless: ok i gotta focus -does it- Lightning: LIGHTNING GO BRRR Light fury: ??? NANI?! WHERE DA F*** DID HE GO toothless: -comes back from invisibillity- Light fury: waaaw meme
