Hi Guys💗 Love your reactions.😀 So here is some info and some lyrics of Hua Chenyu’s “Bullfighting.” He composed the song. It is, in the beginning, the narrative of an actual bullfight, but the song is about having a sense of reverence for all life and is a caution for humanity. About how if we let the cruel and selfish part of our human nature lead us, we are dooming ourselves. The last line of the song is “ Following our kind nature - it’s the last pride and chance for the victory of mankind.” “Mer” is the lowing of the bull. Just as an aside, Hua Chenyu doesn’t often write his own lyrics because he considers his language ability lower than his composing ability, but he has a few trusted Lyrisists he works closely with on every draft until the song actually says what he means it to say. He is extremely detailed about what the song must communicate and the emotion he wants people to understand, so he really is writing his own lyrics, he’s just doing it by proxy. (That said, he has written the lyrics himself of a few of his songs) You should watch the official MV of “Bullfighting” with the subtitles enabled (just for your own selves if you don’t want to react to it) It’s a very cool video that mixes animation with cgi and real footage (it has robot matadors, man!) and it tells the story he wants to tell. So the first verses of growly rapping is the story of a bullfight.He saw a bullfight in Spain once, and considered it a tragic contradiction. For one of them to be victorious the other must die. To start you off, the first rap followed by singing goes as follows: “Follow Follow Hey. Bullfighters parade in. In the name of the fighters the chivalry of the senores...(Spanish-wavy accent over the “n”. I don’t know how to write in other languages on my tablet because I’m dumb)...never dies. The magnificence of Iberia. The air has been shredded under the scorching sun. Tens of thousands of people dance and celebrate. Triumph on the battlefield for the trophy. Concealed strategies are valued. MER~ (Mer = the lowing, mooing, or bellowing of a bull) Follow us MER~” Then there is a second verse of rap explaining more of the ritual of bullfighting ending with the MER~ The lines he sings after the second round of MERs are kind of a pre-chorus...they go: “Taunted all around the field, it runs endlessly. After a few rounds of battle, dominance radiates. The picador gallops in to the rhythm of the beat. MER~ Follow us MER~ The back is pierced and veins burst open. The enraged Bull is as fierce as a demon. The banderillero plants in the banderillas. MER~ Follow us MER~” The recorded voice transition to the gorgeous chorus says: “Repeat the Veronica” (Veronica = A bullfighting move) The beautiful, soaring chorus where the listener starts getting the overall meaning of the song says: “Wildness bares the purity of the soul or its recklessness” ....Not “wilderness”...the word used is “wildness.” The rest of the chorus says, “After nurturing the original sin, the very same hands now seek to destroy it.” Hua Hua is Buddhist, so I don’t think he means “original sin” the way that westerners know it. I think he means both the birthing and raising of the Bull to ultimately die in the ring, and also his overall narrative of we’ve nurtured life on this planet, only to destroy it. Then the song goes into the second verse rap, etc. The very last rap of the song (the one he does in his normal tone of voice) is the caution to humanity. With the last line being the one that I already told you. You really should watch the MV with the subtitles, it’s really well done, took 6 months to make, (and did I *mention* the Terminator-like matador robots?!) Anyway. Thank you for reacting to Hua Chenyu. He needs more people in the West to see his stuff because he is brilliant. A total rockstar. He’s put out 4 albums since his debut on a talent show in 2013 called “Super Boy” at the age of 23. He started doing his yearly MARS concerts in 2014, before his first album was even released, and the first concert sold out in seconds. Every year he does 2-3 MARS concerts with consecutive or near consecutive dates and every year, no matter how large the venue, they sell out in seconds. He’s been on several tv shows, from singing and composing challenge shows, to reality travel shows, to variety shows. His interviews are always interesting, and go from playful, to quietly dignified, to quite serious. He made a short fictional movie early on, 37 mins, called “Quasimodo’s Gift” (also the name of his first album) that features two of his songs from that album and is touching, dramatic, and funny. He plays the lead character and kills it. If you haven’t already gone to the RU-vid channel “Hua Chenyu English Subs”, go there, they have the things they have subtitled there arranged by category and year. Concert footage vs interview vs variety show, etc., including the subtitled mini-movie. This artist is really worth looking deeply into. If this guy was a native of the US or the UK, EVERYBODY in the world would know who he is. He’d be a global superstar. He def is a superstar in his own country and the surrounding countries. He wins music and performance awards every year in China and was a GQ Man of the Year in 2020. I don’t know why we never get to hear or see artists from China (and the rest of the world) here in the US except for the tiny category of “world music” which is almost offensive because that category only tends to showcase traditional music styles. The West doesn’t seem to realize people in other countries can do rock and rap and do it well. If you see Hua Chenyu advertised anywhere, he’s always listed under “Mandopop” which is so unworthy of a category title for him, it is laughable. He’s one of those rare artists that defies genres completely. You know his voice immediately, but his genre is simply “Hua Chenyu style.” Take care and stay safe!💗

It's his own song, on his 2020 album "New World," and it's still at #1 on the mainland C-POP charts!💪🌸🌸 Hua Chenyu chooses different musical styles to tell a song's story. The way I see his performance and the lyrics of Bullfighting is that the low rap and bent over with his hand on his forehead like horns is the bull, the rock voice and his arm out like he's holding open a cape is the matador, and the slower part is him reflecting on life and death. He pre-recorded the angelic choir voice for the bull's death, and the fast rap at the end is his anger over the waste of life. The lyrics at the very end are about the role of art and artists in reminding us to be our better selves. A whole play, like you said, with characters, scenes, and a plot. Progressive rock (my favorite genre) at its very best, with the modern twist of rap and his incredible performance skills. Mad love for this song! Just my opinions, I haven't heard him talk about it. Also, "Hua" is pronounced like the Spanish name Juan without the N. "huAH." The emphasis on the AH, and not on the hoo, is what makes the W sound. Take care and stay safe!

It’s a great show because only professional singers are invited.this is done in 2020 I believe. Hau Chenyu won. He was on in 2018 and came in second to Jessie J.as of Feb 2021 he is 31 he just had a birthday born in 1990. 4 years older than Dimash.

Hi Guys, I hope you are staying safe and well. I am a fan from Canada who discovered Hua ChenYu about 6 months ago and have admired his talent. I enjoy your reactions, I just wish you would find the links with English subs, most of which are on his channel. The Bullfighting one you did was composed by Hua ChenYu after a visit to Spain where he witnessed a bullfight and was disheartened by it. If you had had the English subtitles, it would have both impressed you more and had more of an impact. Please, I would love you to do do a reaction to Dad, I’m Home, but for that you will really need the English lyrics. It comes from a show hw was on called The Next, season 2. Like a lot of Hua Chenyu’s work, it has a lot of deep meaning. Covid 19 has and is still creating tremendous suffering, not only because of the inherent danger of this deadly disease, but because of the enforced isolation. I am a pensioner, retired, 71 years old with no family. I am blessed with good friends, but we are separated by distance and only a couple of people are in my “bubble”. Music has carried me through this terrible time, as it has helped me in the past. Seeing others react to the artists who have helped me through this Pandemic helps even further as it is only natural to want to share. I started out with Dimash and have since expanded through the Singer with Hua ChenYu and others, but Hua Hua has become my favourite. Just for fun you might want to check out a Mongolian Heavy Metal group called The Hu and their song Wolf Totem, again, try and get the English subtitles. It is a collaboration between Hua Chenyu and the US-Chinese rapper Victor Ma (Ma Boqian). Hua Chenyu was his mentor in this show and rearranged an older Taiwanese rapsong (original by "MC Hotdog" love it a lot, too). The English lines were written by Victor Ma (as far as I know). Mer is the noise the bull makes, basically "moo" in Chinese. Just like dogs don't go "woof, woof", they go "huang, huang" in Chinese. Funny, isn't it? I guess it has to do with the way the sound is rendered in another language.

The best word I could describe Hua Hua is genius. I'm so glad he came back to Singer 2020 and was able to win 1st place. It's a shame, though, that 2020 was the final season. You wouldn't watch a play or a movie without finding out what it's about beforehand, so why not do that with musical art like this? It detracts from your reactions and makes it seem like all you're doing is trying to draw in subs and views when you go in knowing nothing at all rather than produce a high quality, genuine reaction with some background knowledge. There are sites with translated lyrics in print even if the video itself has none, and the link I posted above also has them, as well as info about most of his music, in case you decide to do some reading. Mur is the sound that make bull when is exhausted while is dying. Every gesture in the song has meaning. When he break the chain on his neck there is a heart hanging on it. It simbolised dying and when he put it on the ground he pay tribute to the death of that bull, which die for entertainment of the people. Huahua shows his disapproval, condemnation of bullfighting.There is nothing funny in this song and I don't understand why you laught all the time.
