He is on a different level of game in this “competition” ， I dont mean his singing techniques，all of the singers on the show are fantastic（or they will not be invited in the first place） ，I meant he took the oppotunity and made it a process to explore his journey of life （self actualization？）. @@yni005 He basically created an album of songs around his life just for this competition. That is impressive! I think he grew a lot from the experience on Singer and his music changed both from his studies (he is always listening and learning) and from how he matured as a person.
@@yni005 I have the same feeling. I think that he went through the self-actualization process and the music after that reflects the change. New World describes his feeling after ascending to "the mountaintop of dreams" alone after the Singer show (In the song Chasing Dreams with Childlike Heart, he and his friends from the Super Boy Competition have sung about scaling the highest mountain to chase their dream, so mountaintop is definitely a symbol of dreams.) Arrival is about reaching a spiritually peaceful state. Jackdaw Boy probably describes his struggle with his previous agent (aka his mentor/agent since his debut) (I found the lyrics very telling since he had some hard time in the second half of last year.) Bullfighting describes the constant struggles one may face in life and the courage to stand up and fight again. I heard that there is going to be a new song called "I Have Grown Up" in his new album, but I don't know if it is confirmed. So these songs definitely reflect his life journey.

He is well known for his powerful vocals, dramatic stage performance and talents in composing. Hua is the most versatile artist that I have never seen. He plays piano, guitar, flute, drum...etc. He has very solid classical background but he is a rock star who can also do rap, pop, ballad, opera, musical....etc. Huahua has the power of making any songs his own! I know they split from original team as got different opinions and they do lots of volunteers work for all overseas Martians and were in the original team. "Singer" is a Chinese competition show for established stars where voting is done by a specially selected 500 member audience. The musically discerning group is age balanced between young and old for each of the 14 episodes. Each member votes for three favorite performances of that episode. Seven singers compete on each show and the one with the least votes is kicked off. Because it focuses on singing, a performer can use no more than two of their own compositions. Hua Chen Yu took second place behind Jessie J. in the 2018 series. The show is well run with great lighting, cinematography, musical direction and superb background singers and musicians.

I really enjoyed your reaction to Hua Chenyu! I discovered him earlier this year (I was only into Kpop before too) and was so captivated by him since then. He is my favorite solo male singer of all time. He is so versatile that you will be amazed each time. Off stage, he was very easy-going, child-like in the earlier days but even then he was very wise beyond his age. Overall, I think he is very intelligent and very dedicated when it comes to music. The lyrics and the story behind them were so inspiring and meaningful. ‘Equal to Heaven’ was related to the epic story of Monkey King (Sun Wukong as his name) fighting against evil forces , seeking truth and Buddhist scriptures in a classical novel called Journey to the West. At the beginning of the story, he called himself ‘Great Sage Equal to Heaven’ leading a group of monkeys located in Flower and Fruit Mountain and dared to challenge the authority of Jade emperor of heaven. Then he got defeated and trapped under Five-Finger Mountain transforming from fingers of Buddha. After 500 years, Tang Monk of Tang Dynasty came to save him, so Monkey King and other 2 guys helped Tang Monk fight against evil forces , seek truth and finally obtained the Buddhist scriptures. It was a really moving and inspiring story.
You have only scratched the surface with this performance by Hua and I highly, highly recommend the others from Singer 2018 as they form a song cycle. All of his songs are in Chinese but have been translated so just do a search that includes the words "English Sub" so that you can follow along.
One more thing to mention about his talent is that he "rewrote" recompose the song given to him in ONLY one night before the show - he generally goes almost without ANY sleep in that 24 hours and yet his voice did not deteriorate at all!
This trully is a remarkable song. I'd even say epic if you know the lyrics and the background story...Love the music，love the lyrics，I doubt I'd live to see anyone sing this better than Hua.

Wow, you picked a jewel. His personality is just as unique as his magnetic performances. He is one you will want to see all his performances to see all his versatilities and talent in composing. There will be suggestions to watch Fake Monk. It may be better if you see three or four of his other performances to warm up to this one. It's one of his best artistry in performance, but very dark. Until you get to know Hua a little better, then you will understand this performance. Most of his performance is more impactful with Eng Sub. Although it's hard to follow sometimes, because some of songs are fast paced. But even if you don't you can still feel the impact of his emotions just through his performance. Funny that you mentioned about all the competitors must’ve felt because ever since Hua Chenyu joined the competition (he was a substitute, appear in the 4th week) everyone stepped out of their comfort zone, everyone tried to step up their game. Everyone was trying to be unique and memorable. Hua Chenyu threatened them that way, and he wasn’t even trying to win the competition. Most everybody starts with "Nunchucks" -- one of the songs he did in Singer 2018. Almost every song he did on that show is so react-able...full of surprises. Jessie J was in the same competition by the way.

Hua Chenyu is amazing! You have to watch his other performances on Singer and also listen to his other music! He is a genius when it comes to composing/writing/rewriting & performing! His live shows are also amazing! One of the many many songs of his I love is “Giant Dear” please do more reactions! Dimash is Kazakh and what I love about him besides his singing is that he hs still so humble and the man genunly loves his fans whom he calls DEARS. He was 22 when he performed SOS, his first performance on Singer. It wasn't long before fan clubs started springing up all over the world. SO there is room in many of us to love them both. They are a lot a like in many ways. Dimash contracted in China, twice. I do not know if he still is or not. Dimash is in Russia now performing. A lot of Chinese Dears still travel to his concerts and he still fly's to China to perform special events or sing a song for a T.V. Series there. Because he started there, he has a special place in his heart for his Chinese Dears.
