I run one of these on my router. Mach3 controls it just fine, just requires the standard messing around with settings. On/off is just an output from the bob to a relay and speed control is via the 0-10v output. I use also us a couple of AC Tech VFD's in the shed and they're very similar.

Thanks so much for the excellent tutorial. Hadn't been able to find anywhere that explained about what to do with the neutral wire though I assumed it would be connected to ground but was a bit hesitant. Thanks again! :)

Nice work and great information. I went with the Teco L510 on the lathe. I specifically didn't get into any wiring info in my video due to the liability issue. I love haveing my lathe running under 3 phase, variable speed, power. It is so simple to change speeds. Now to get the carriage brackets made.

great video. I have this same inverter (220V 1~ph in, 220V 3~ph out, ), laying around from another application in the past, but with 3kW rating. I now want to use it to drive a 220v 3ph deep well water pump. This pump fills a reservoir and a level switch in this reservoir is turning the pump on and off. Off when it is totally full, and on when the level drops a few feet. So it is basically an ON/OFF operation. My question is: where do I connect the level switch to? I have the manual, but can not get clear how to connect the on/off level switch to. Is it +10V and VI ? Not sure so would appreciate some help with this.

will the motor on lathe still run without the green, white and black not connected..I have my unit hooked up to 220 volt and have 110 volt on each leg then I test the voltage at lower right side wires and I have 148 volts (each) on all three wires going to the three phase motor..my box is a little different...but looks similar. no brand name on it or instructions..so I am assuming if the wires up top are not connected the lathe will not run..

Thanks for the video. I got a question. I bought a VFD and a spindle (2.2 kw air cooled) but when it arrived i realized i ordered 220V instead of 110V i have in my garage. It looks exactly like yours. Do you know if these models have the same hardware and configured differently and i can change some switch and voila itis 110v ? PC power supplies have that switch for example... If not, if i exchange the product, changing VFD is enough? Or spindle will meed to be changed too? Thanks
@russtuff
@russtuff 6 лет назад
For the VFD, certain models can either be powered by 110v or 220v. They all look the same, so it's a bit of a hassle figuring out which VFD you have. You will probably have to comb through the manual to find out if yours will run off 110v. Or just wire it up and see what happens :/ For the spindle, you might be able to run it off 110v but you'll be getting half the power. 2.2KW is calculated on 220v and 10 amps. if you can only supply 110v you'd have 1.1KW at 10 amps. I'm not sure how well the motor will run like that (or if at all).

Are you saying Uniform is no longer in use, or is it just that it sounds weird hearing phonetics being used? I learned the phonetic alphabet from listening to my old man talk on the radio. Go Utah! -Romeo Uniform Sierra-
@CORZER0
@CORZER0 6 лет назад
Uniform is proper. Not sure why or how I got stuck on Utah! Just always been that way. By the way, do you have a physical switch or plug/physical disconnect between your breaker and your vfd? I'm thinking about implementing both, as in: breaker>switch>plug>vfd>motor. In case I want to move my unit around (2x72 belt grinder, 3hp Baldor motor).

Thank you for posting this. Much clearer and more to the point than other videos I've seen. Not to mention the files you uploaded. I have a question: The manual (which as you correctly point out is a bit hard to digest) makes it sound like unplugging or sudden stopping of the flow of power to your device/motor FROM the VFD can damage it. I'm currently using it to power a couple of air compressors, which of course have mechanical relays to maintain a certain pressure. Do you ever use the Huanyang with similar relays/contactors/SSRs? Should I find some kind of work around in order to not damage the VFD? One possibility is using the mechanical relay to redirect wall Mains to the control terminals which would then shut off the VFD. But I'm not sure which terminals would work since, as we've said, the manual looks like it was written by a computer. Appreciate any additional help you or others can offer, not to mention what you have so far Chris
@russtuff
@russtuff 7 лет назад
I really think the warnings are to keep the device from seeing high inrush current or feedback. I've had a other people say they are running them the way you are and have never had a problem. It may be luck of the draw :/ I don't have any good ideas on a workaround though. I figure if you haven't burned one up quickly you're probably alright.

Can I tie the 220v neutral and the motor ground wire to the same lug on the VFD if I dont have a chassis ground? In my case Im going to be mounting the 3hp vfd variant of this to my table saws cabinet.

Question , I have the 120VAC input drive. I've seen videos where it is hooked up to a single phas with a single phase AC motor as the load. They don't mention how thw AC in is wired. I'm trying to figure out where to wire the Neutral wire to. The Line input ( black ) will go to 'R', does the neutral go to 'S' or to the ground terminal on the unit. Thanks

Currently my 240V power shuts down at the end of repetitive cycles and restarts when I click 'Cycle Start ' on my Mach 3. If I only connect the motor wires and these interrupted 240V power wires will I have to reset the speed etc on this VFD on every cycle ?
@russtuff
@russtuff 7 лет назад
I'm not sure I understand your question. The VFD can be turned off/on at any time and will not lose its programmed parameters. Disconnecting the main voltage is not going to deprogram it.

really thanks Rus, for you videos and your attention, really appreciate. It is more difficult than i expected, with the help of an eng, i could see that my motherboard use the "phisical com" i mean the real address of a COM for "inner use" so it is too risky triing to use them for something else. One more question, using the HY vfd, i can easily control a three phase usual motor, but it sense too much load for a submersible motor pump. Wich parameter i could try to work on, to set them to "handle" with this type of motor. I know the VFD could do this, because there are a whole series of VFD selled to drive this type of motors. BTW it is just to experience with the VFD , so if you have better things to do, do not worry about it. Again thanks, Daniele
@russtuff
@russtuff 6 лет назад
+danieleconty I can't find my manual so I'm not sure which setting it is. Have you tried running the pump and the VFD is faulting?
@danieleconty
@danieleconty 6 лет назад
Thanks, so much Rus, i could not remember just now, what i know: the inverter works fine with standard motors, when i tried it with the submersible type, it acted like if overloaded. SO i think may be it need a "smoother" output voltage.. but not sure on how to do it.

Hello and thank you for your video. I saw a couple of other videos about this vfd. They had set PD003, 004 and 005 to max (400) What do you think ? regards Shahrokh
@russtuff
@russtuff 6 лет назад
Frankly I'm not sure why we need these settings at all. I can't say what will happen if you set it to max as I've never tried it. If you're running a high-freq spindle (400hz) then yeah I'd set PD005 at 400. Let me know if you try maxing them out and if you notice anything being affected.

I live in Europe with 220v electricity,Can you give your opinion on grounding the spindle?There are many opinions on the net about it,on how you should solder an additional wire inside the spindle to the body itslef,or not doing anything at all,but the pin number 4 is empty,it is not connected to anything.
@russtuff
@russtuff 6 лет назад
3 Phase motor signals are balanced, so a ground isn't required to get it running. That said, I would agree that attaching a ground to the spindle body is a good idea just to make sure you're being safe. I didn't realize some spindles don't have a ground lug on them already. Are you using a high-freq 2.2kw spindle? I have one but never wired it up so I'm not sure if it allows for grounding either.

HI Russ, I am running a 110 vac1.5 kw spindle on a 110vac 2.2kw vfd. I have upgraded to a 110 vac, 2.2kw spindle for the larger collet size. I previously had my max current PD142 set to 7 amps which ran fine. I went to increase the amps on my drive and see it only goes to 11 amps. Do you know if this the max for the drive or if it is being limited by another parameter. this is a Haugyang VFD.
@russtuff
@russtuff 2 года назад
I just tried it on mine and hit the same limitation. None of the documentation I have says if this is supposed to be the max so I'm not sure.
@richardleslie410
@richardleslie410 2 года назад
I wonder since7 amp setting for 1.5kw works well, so maybe the 11 amp setting for 2.2kw is Correct. I guess that I will try and see. Being this is a 3 phase set up on the output side it will be different than computing current from a regular formula. Thank you for you response. Good day to you.

This model is for ~220 Volts, it will not work on 120 volts. If you tried to connect 120V (line & neutral) to any order of RST, it will go up in smoke! You need the model that is made for 120 volts.
@russtuff
@russtuff 7 лет назад
He's Right, I'm wrong. This model only allows for 170v-240v for 220v power. I could have sworn it allowed for 110v input, but nope. Thanks ToolGuy.

Why do you hook up your neutral to the ground on the VFD?
@iwens1966
@iwens1966 3 года назад
Well, he shouldn’t be. Neutral and ground are not the same. The neutral is the groundED conductor and the green is the groundING conductor. If this VFD is 220v, that neutral doesn’t belong in there.

Many VFDs can be programmed to accept either 60hz or 50hz, but you'd have to go through your manual to find out if it can be done on yours.

question: you use Linux CNC but have never used the Mach software. This implies you are good with linux.. not out of the realm of possibilities, is there another reason? Do you think that this is better in some way? is the sampling rate, or the frame rate or something?? I am just looking at these technologies but I don't have the discretionary funds to jump in att. So, why did you pursue this tech tree?
@russtuff
@russtuff 8 лет назад
I've been using LinuxCNC for a few years now. I'm not a developer or programmer, but I've been using it long enought that I'm comfortable with it. Frankly, I went with LinuxCNC because it's free, and Mach isn't. I assumed that at some point I would "upgrade" to Mach, but I no longer consider Mach as an upgrade. I know many people using Mach who hate it and want to switch to LinuxCNC. Mach runs on Windows and if you aren't using a SmoothStepper (and even if you are) you may have problems with signals not correctly being sent to your breakout board. Linux uses a "real time" kernel which means you don't need a SmothStepper and you get a much more reliable command stream to the breakout board. Also, with a little programming knowledge and a lot of help from the LinuxCNC forum, LinuxCNC is every bit as capable as Mach and is just as easy to use.
@gordonfrank

I started with Mach3 and went to LinuxCNC and am glad I did. There's a little learning curve but like Russ said there's plenty of forum help.
